Does the rise of McDonald spell the end for Rivers?
cowboy_from_hell replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
But Watts is a floating backmen and I'd rank Nicho and strauss behind Rivers at the moment. A 2 year deal would be suffice for me and hopefully by 2014 you are correct and Nicho and Strauss have overtaken him. But we need Rivers next year. -

Watts and Rivers are the rebounding backs we need. You take out rivers and Watts will get tagged out of a game a lot like Davey used to off the half back flank. Watts isn't ready to be a general down back he needs help. The pies have shaw, Obrien and Maxwell all rebounding for them. You can't leave it to one player. Keep T mac and Chip on the big forwards and Rivers and Watts rebound it out of there. -
Beams signs for 3 ... Cloke edges closer to Dees?
cowboy_from_hell replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
I agree about the mids but what a grade mids are available to pick up who are also unrestricted free agents. I say get the best available free agents as it doesn't cost us draft picks. If a heap of Mids were available as free agents I'd guess we would throw cash at them and pick up a forward in the draft but it looks as if it is reversed with Cloke wanting to go and not many A grade mids going anywhere -
I'm pretty sure he doesn't get a holiday until after the trade and draft periods but even then all he will think about is footy. I'f rather play ten games of AFL footy then coach for ten years.

I'm more then happy to get that deal done. Don't know why the footy club is in love with bail so much.

At a minimum as long as caddy doesn't end up at hawthorn I'll be happy I'm sick of everyone wanting to go there and hawthorn get the player and give up peanuts

Rivers has to be signed up. T Mac and chippa take the big forwards and they are our accountable back men while rivers and watts are the quarterback type back men. We need rivers to not play on the big boys remember against the pies before t Mac came along rivers would have to play one on one with cloke or Dawes and he would get out bodied. You take away rivers and this leaves watts to do the lone job and the opposition would then just tag him out of the game like they used to with davey off half back the pies have shaw maxwell and Obrien playing down back and they stink at a one on one contest but they rebound the footy a lot. Rivers is a must sign player. -
Agree we need a fresh face who is just out of the game. There is no point teaching an old coach new tactics when a young coach already knows them.

Just explaining who I would want to replace Brian Royal as our midfield coach as Royal is the subject of the thread so I think it's relevant. Have you given everyone who has started a thousand Mark Neeld threads a reminder there is already an original thread?

Contract discussions put on hold for eleven Demons
cowboy_from_hell replied to DemonDave's topic in Melbourne Demons
We have to sign J.Riv he doesn't have absolute stinker games, always reliable and a cool old head. His skills are ten times better then T.Mac right now so we need him. -
You'd imagine if he did want to coach Melbourne may suit him as we are starting from scratch and whoever does turn this midfield around will look like a dead set legend in the coaching fraternity.
-
All the talk of getting chapman for his culture building abilities gets me thinking we should go hard for Cameron Ling as a Midfield coach. This bloke knows what it's like to be in a crap team and then turn it around into a monster of a team. Many say he is interested in coaching so I say get him.

POLL: Are you happy for us to take Viney at pick 3?
cowboy_from_hell replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
I would take him at any cost for two reasons. 1: if for some reason he wears another jumper next year and carves it up or even becomes a serviceable player it would be an embarrassment to this club and any respect this club has left will all be gone 2: he didn't set the world on fire in the carnival due to wojo trying to show how much of a big man he is (i haven't forgotten wojo ya [censored]) but the kid is playing vfl footy and is playing well against men well above his age and experience viney is a ready made player. Don't forget Cale Morton had a cracker of a carnival and that's turned out well -
I'm pretty sure mr.burns told One of his players to shave his side burns or he wouldn't play against shelbyville in a softball match Springfield went on to win that game
-
Exactly I'll take more from someone with info from Port Adelaide as they are the ones who will decide where Boak goes.
-
That's if Port are happy with what North are willing to give up for him. If Port aren't happy then he either tries to find a new home or go to the draft. Nothing is set in stone if Port aren't happy.

Clarke was supposed to have a lot in common with the purple wiggle when he decided to leave brisbane. So in saying that I don't believe anything about trade rumours and where players want to go.

This thread has the potential to be the only thread that doesn't turn into a mark neeld thread or did I just turn it into one? Ah crap

I like the fact that it is well advertised about Sam's lack of fitness/defensive acts he knows it,we know it and even the commentators know it but he is working on it and you can see some improvement already. Here is someone who wants to be better and is/will work his ass off to get there.

I agree we need all four to last out the year. But in a single game and if Russian is fit can we play Russian,Spencer and Mitch? I would prefer Mitch to stay forward and I would think he will if his injury delays his pre season. So even though I love all that Pencil is doing he isn't a marking tall at the moment. Stef Martin has showed more as the 2nd ruck/forward. If I had to pick out of Stef and Pencil to ruck all day I'd take pencil but as our 2nd ruckman I'd take Stef at the moment.
-
He has been a damn good player at 19 years old and at pick 53. He plays on some of the best forwards and can dominate a game if his disposal was better. Is he better then chip? Not at this stage but once he works on his disposal and his team mates run and spread for him to make an easy target he will be an all australian
-
I would give him a 3 year deal. With some big incentives thrown in his contract
-
If we were just talking about this game in isolation then I would agree. Yes he may or may not have been hurt really bad yesterday but you can't defend my sceptacism of Sylvia's efforts as he has shown little or no effort in a lot of games prior to yesterday it all adds up in the end

THIS IS THE WORST DAY EVER! -
I haven't been a huge fan of Nev but as has been pointed no real pre seasons under his belt. I thought under Bailey he was used as an outside player but he seems to like throwing what weight he has around the packs. He showed something today.
