With the news on Roughie, reminds me of sitting in the first tier on the wing for the Melbourne-Richmond game where you could hear Nathan Brown's leg crack. Gotta wonder whether players ever come back the same from that sort of injury.

Well of the top20 from 2009... Scully - picked every week if not injured. Trenners - has only missed 4 games, 3 suspended, 1 rested Martin - Scintillating to watch Moriabito - He was the first mid I picked for my SC team this year, then he bloody well got injured. Sensational when on, terrible about the knee though. Cunnington - Plays week-in, week out for North, hasn't had a massive game though. Rohan - Been sensational this year as sub, didn't play much last year I believe. Sheppard - plays regularly for WC, don't know too much about him tbh apart from 20 of a possible 33 played. Butcher - Hasn't played yet, highly rated KPP though Moore - hasn't played yet, versatile KPF/mid. Probably bulking Melksham - the Dons supporters love him, I don't rate him THAT highly but haven't watched him play that much Gys - Who doesn't love the Gys? Right now we have done really well to get him at 11 but time will tell Lucas - plays a bit, my Carlton-loving mates are very 'eh' about him Talia - Hasn't played yet, may evolve into a Stef Martin type Jetta - Plays week-in, week-out in Sydney Howard - Debuted Rd10 this year for Dogs, solid so far Pittard - Debuted this year, playing a lot but don't watch much Port Menzel - Has set the world on fire down the highway Tapscott - We need to put him on a HFF so he can roost it from 60 Griffiths - Not playing atm, not really sure how he's travelling. Has played 5 games so far. Fyfe - Looks like he's played 100 games already. As compared to... Watts - We're waiting for the breakout Naitnui - Stalled somewhat Hill - great so far Hartlett - rubbish imo Hurley - Still not sure whether he has plateaued yet Yarran - Deadly Rich - Was best of this draft in '09, not really sure now Ziebell - Doesn't work hard enough, potential is there though Davis - Not a Crows regular Sidebottom - Plays well in the best side in the comp Johnston - only debuted this year Lynch - only played one game, none this year Cordy - hasn't played yet, bulking Brown - hasn't played, bulking, may never now that Vardy has come through? Schoenmakers - dangerous, dangerous player Blease - Will play this year, still unsure about him IMO Shuey - been superb so far Strauss - Will keep improving with experience Swift - They love him out west It's still probably too soon to call, but noticeably there seem to be a couple of clear busts in the 2008 Top 20 (Lynch, possibly Davis) where there are none in the 2009 Top 20. Furthermore, a big chunk of it is about how the two drafts compare in their spread - there are more KPPs in the 08 draft. It was also a different sort of draft, with the first 7 being dangerous, then of the rest only picks 12, 16, 18 and 20 playing serious game time. Give it another 4-5 years and it'll be clearer, but right now in my mind the 09 draft is the superior.

Oddly enough, a lot of the media this week have been commenting that 'of all the teams last year, the Dees were the best at unlocking the Pies' press'. Admittedly, we are without two of our best in Rush and Davey, but... - Davey would have been a liability assuming his form continued. - Stef Martin, while still not as good as Big Rush, has been in great form nevertheless and can hold his own. The key is around the contests. Now, honestly, I think we may have an ever-so-slight edge. Yes, there is the Pendles factor. But you look at the two midfields... Melbourne: Sylvia, Moloney, Scully, Trengove, Gysberts, McKenzie, Jetta, Jones, Morton Collingwood: Pendlebury, Ball, Sidebottom, Wellingham, Goldsack, Toovey, McCarthy, Krakouer, Young? I would say that of these two groups... - Pendlebury is the only outright A-grader there. Ball is somewhere between a B and an A. - Melbourne's top tier of mids are as good as, if not better than, most of Collingwood's middle tier. - Many of Collingwood's mids play better in other areas of the ground, while Melbourne have more out-and-out mids. - Melbourne's #1 ruck in Stef Martin is almost certainly as good as Cam Wood, and that's without discussing what Martin offers around the contest. The issue for me is how we match up against Collingwood's forwards, and how we go on our own I50 delivery. If we can hit our forward targets and win the clearances, we're in with a real crack.

I don't think so too much - you have Rivers go to Cloke, Frawl to Dawes and have Watts and Martin rotate off Brown depending on where he is going. Probably Martin, as we have the Max Factor around the ground.

Sure, if you want to destroy the MFC, Kangas and Bulldogs. It makes 9 of the 18 teams irrelevant to media coverage really. Look at the coverage the Championship gets in the UK media as compared to the Premier League. It's like rugby here as compared to footy. Seriously. You're risking the future of those teams, because if they get stuck in the lower division for a number of years they end up losing supporters. Why is the EPL always the example that is come back to? The US sports deal with as much money as the EPL yet do not have a relegation system. It is a far harsher setup in the NFL, where only 12 teams of 32 make the playoffs.
