  1. On the face of it seems a good recruit. Like his size. Welcome to the team we love Rory, let's hope you grow to love it like all of us do.
  2. I'm not sure C_F, but it wouldn't surprise me, especially if the kick was a dead-set gimme. That said, he usually plays down back, so probably not. Zac Dawson in the 2011 GF? I thought he played for StKilda, not Collingwood or Geelong?
  3. True for Green, but surely Moloney can escape some criticism due to his illness/injury (?? I can't remember which as I've tried to block it all from my memory). Granted he shouldn't have even taken the field, and can cop a bit for that, but I think it is fair to say that he shouldn't be dragged down by that number as much as others. For what it's worth, reading through the list of characteristic on Robbie57's post above, the only player that comes close to ticking all the boxes is Trenners. Actually, Grimes is probably a better candidate, but his inability to stay on the park is a fair dinkum concern imo. Beamer is, as others have said, more of an inspiring brute than a captain, Col has obvious issues and reasons to keep him out, Jonesy is getting real close, but probably needs to develop a little more, Russian could be a possibility, I must admit I've really no idea on him, Davey has shown this year that his confidence is nowhere near the levels required to be captain, Jordie McKenzie has thrown his hat into the ring for the LG through his consistent performance, and Chip would have to be getting close too as he is one who we can rely on pretty much week in week out to bring his game with him. There may be the odd smokey who us on the outside overlook, but out of that list I would expect the LG to include Trenners, Moloney, Jones, Chip, Grimes and McKenzie, and I know it would be a bold move, but try as I might I cannot see a better candidate for the job than Trenners. Consistent performer, polished public speaker, well behaved, committed to the cause, gets vocal on field and is mature beyond his years. He may still have areas he needs to improve, but so does every candidate we have.
  4. I can think of no more unco player I have seen than Lewis Roberts-Thompson. Manages to do some amazing things on occasion, but manages to amaze with his unco-ness even more often. I go to Swans games in Sydney with a mate, and usually spend half the time laughing at the balls ups from LRT.
  5. If he can turn Bartram into a serviceable kick then we'll win the flag in the next 2 years, cause if he can do that, then the man can work miracles!
  6. Well Eddie, once again showing yourself to the world as the prize goose you are. That said, he has clout, and I would love to see him wage war on that irrelevant piece of tripe that is GW$. But as mentioned by others, there is nothing he can do but sit idly by and suck eggs if they do (which they certainly will/have already) go after Pendles. His comments about the MFC [censored] me to tears, as we may not have done too much, but there was nothing we could have done, aside from paying way overs for T$. No matter how much those comments annoy me, there is no point getting my knickers in a twist as I would've expected nothing else from Eddie. Pendles will go, Eddie will burst a valve, and I will enjoy sitting back and watching them go hammer and tongs at each other for the next decade. And maybe, just maybe, while this is all going on the MFC can circle around unnoticed and steal a couple players off em while they are fixated on each other
  7. How Hilditch still has a job, I will never know. I had heard that the test was a debacle, but 9/21??? WTF???? I cannot deal with another summer like last. And this one has the potential to be much worse. All credit to Clarke for his 150, but FFS, sort this [censored] out. And Chook, I will call you un-australian Just beacuse we were the best cricket team in the world for years does not mean we should lose. I want Kelly Slater to lose, and am sick of him winning, but that's cause he is a Seppo. If he was an aussie there is no way I would feel that way. This is our national cricket team, and a team we should always be proud of, but at the moment I can only feel shame. Something needs to be done, and quickly. We don't have to win every game, but innings totals like that should never be seen.
  8. It's wonderful to read these comments from our new coach. And I really do think that it is, and will be, the change needed. However, at the moment it is only words. The right ones, but words just the same. The actions of the playing group and coaching staff need to reflect all of this talk. I am sure this guy will ruffle feathers, and we may lose some quality people along the way. That said, I am a chef, and my head chef has a saying, "one team, one goal". Never a truer word spoken, and it relates just as well to the MFC as it does to the kitchen brigade at a fine dining restaurant. And , to be blunt, anyone who can't work to that ideology can bugger off, because otherwise that one person can derail the whole goal. The time for niceties is long gone, it is now time for Neeld and his "my way or the highway approach". I like it, and I will keep liking it, and I will like it even more when the inevitable success comes.
  9. Thanks DemonOx, I'll go check it out. Love that the word impressive is being used to describe our coaching staff
  10. I'm stoked he's been retained. Goes in hard always, and tries his guts out. Not every player in the side has to be, or will be, a gun. We need a couple of these mature, tough blokes around the club. Not to mention, he's a ripper of a bloke as well (although I know this doesn't come into such decisions), and I'm glad he'll be at the club for longer.
  11. Is there audio about for that one WYL, I'd like to hear it if available.
  12. With ya all the way Chook. I reckon the kids gonna shock a few knockers over the coming years. Every one rails on about players bleeding for the club, but fail to see that Jonesy does, most only see his shortcomings (which are getting less and less). I'll hitch my wagon to yours, cause I've been on the Jones boy for a while now, and I reckon he's not far off blowing up, and I for one cannot wait
  13. The bloke just screams class doesn't he. If his actions are as good as his words, we are in for one hell of a good ride here
  14. Just realised we are playing Sydney at the SCG again. Sing hallelujah About bloody time is all I can say!
  15. We are all from that land, but I feel more positive now than ever before, and I'm gonna run with it
  16. Did I break it down and say that the eagles over there is good did I??? No, I included that in a pretty nice first 5, which by no means says anything good about that particular game. It is a generalisation. If you can't see that you can't be helped. God forbid anyone on here should feel positive. You are right about dogs and saints, however there is nothing to suggest a resurgence from either of them next year, so 50/50 atm for mine. We play Cats, Pies, Hawks, Blues, Swans, only once and you don't like that?? What land of despair are you living in?
  17. Our whole Draw ain't bad IMO. I looked at it and smiled, lots. Lions, Eagles, Tiges, Dogs, Saints is a pretty nice first 5 weeks. Then the next six of Cats, Hawks, Swans, Blues, Bombers, Pies is pretty damn rough though. The rest, Giants, Lions, Tiges, Dockers, Power, Roos, Suns, Saints, Giants, Crows, Dockers, is a pretty beautiful draw to end the season on. It by no means guarantees success, but at this stage, it has to be one of the easiest draws I can remember off the top of my head.
  18. Out of the thousands of $cully posts I am not even going to attempt to find it RL, although I do remember reading it. It was something about him scouting for Sydney and you not being surprised if he got a job at GWS. My care factor for $cully is less than zero, but my care factor for what was thrust upon us by Vlad and his grandiose expansion plan is still hovering around 100. Now, hearing all of this it's probably risen a bit. I do like that they have made them bring it under the GWS TPP, but the crime has already been perpetrated against us. That said, I am very happy with where the MFC sits atm, but still think we were wronged through all of this badly.
  19. Not just a mentor, but as Vale said "he was like my younger brother". Tragic news which we all hope will never be repeated again. His thrilling style will forever be missed.
  20. I would think it's fair to say that every club in the league makes that request RM Correct me if I'm wrong WYL, but my reading of the article was that our commitment to the NT games had ended. We have taken on one game for next year from Richmond, meaning we only play there once, and next year is the end of it all unless we strike another deal for 2013 and beyond.
  21. Sorry DC, that is why I separated the points from my reply to you and the rest of the post, my bad. I wasn't actually having a dig at you, just at those who rail on about tweeting like it is the cause of all our woes. It's getting a bit boring for me, that's all.
  22. True DC, however do we really expect the players to be training and thinkng about footy and their game 24/7. I'd contend that their tweets have nothing to do with their footy performance at all. It's a bit boring really how often people complain about them being human and having a twitter account (shock horror). Are we so obsessed that we expect them to be completely single minded? They'll get fitter and better now that they have the right coaches in place to develop them correctly. Twitter won't affect them at all and, amazingly, the world will keep turning.
  23. Just wishful thinking DC Imagine though, if Barrett and Hutchy keep getting things wrong by following every rumour they hear like it's fact, surely they will become quickly irrelevant if others are doing proper journalistic work and uncovering the truth. But yeah, probably wishful thinking.
  24. No we can not!!!!! There'd be a mutiny. I am not too sure how I feel about FA at the moment. On the plus side though, we won't have too many players who qualify for a little while. Hopefully by that time we have a side which is pushing for a premiership and therefore are in the position where player would prefer remain with us for less money so they can enjoy the success, ala Dane Swan. It is going to bring a whole lot of negativity to the game though IMO. Welcome to the brave new world. The people who are going to love it the most are the Journos, they are going to have a deadset field day, what with all the rumours and innuendo to be spewed forth as fact. Edit: Come to think of it, maybe all of the extra trade rumour mongering might just make them have to have some accountability. If there is constant trade talk on the scale of this year and last, surely reputations will be sullied if someone is consistently wrong and changing their "facts" won't they?
  25. Cameron Schwab absolutely deserves bucketloads of credit for the goings on of the last 4 or so weeks. To think that, due to what seems to be a few petulant players, his head was on the block a couple months back. Ludicrous. This bloke cares so much for this footy club, and has the business accumen to go along with it. Cheers to you Cameron, I have no doubt that without you, we would be in debt, probably still at the Junction Oval, have an average list and be staring down the barrel of oblivion. Jimmy rightly gets a hell of alot of credit for the good that has happened at this club recently, and for some reason Cameron has copped the credit for the bad. Well no more as far as I'm concerned. This is a combined effort by Jim and Cameron, and the Board of the MFC. The good things of the last month are an absolute credit to all of you. Thank you.
