  1. Caro writes a really good article when she isn't muckraking. This doesn't really paint our club in the best light, but it at least uncovers some of the terrible mess that was 186. Please may today be a different situation. I could not handle another Kardinia Massacre.
  2. Even worse, does it mean we have to stop hating him and his evil Pies so much?? I just don't know that I can break 30 odd years of hatred! Give it 5 mins dc Won't take em too long. My only issue with this is that it means I may have to go back on my oath to never use them again after the debacle I endured from them last week. I booked a flight Gold Coast to Sydney on Monday morning, and they f'd up the date, making it Sunday morning. Caused me all sorts of grief and cost me 289 to get another flight back to Sydney, which was more than the original return and a nights accommodation. I really am loathe to go back on my oat, but if they are supporting MFC then, I guess I just might have to!
  3. Hi all. I'm off to the Goldy for a mates wedding this weekend, and am wondering if there's any Demonlanders who live up that way, who may be able to tell me where there's a pub I can go to to watch the game live? Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I'm aware that it can be pretty difficult to find an AFL pub in NRL territory
  4. Have to add Christy Moore and the Frames to that list hardtack, maybe in replacement for the Corrs
  5. Might I just add, to those who didn't like the introduction of the Blazers, please tell me you didn't think the boys all looked absolutely SENSATIONAL today.
  6. Wish more than anything that I could have made it to Melbourne to see off my hero, but it wasn't to be. From what I have seen from the photos, it seemed like a fitting tribute to an amazing man. To Sam, Matisse, Tiernan and all of Jimmys family and friends, I hope that today helped cement in your minds what an amazing man you were blessed to know, and helped to put your minds at ease. Jimmy, you'll live a lot longer in all our memories. Love and miss ya already big guy, RIP
  7. I've been trying to read this thread, but it is growing quicker than I can read, through the tears in my eyes. Big Jim, you are my hero. You are the hero of my club. You are the reason that I love this club since I was 7 years old in 1987. But more importantly than all of that, you are the hero of so many people and their lives, who would not have lives if it weren't for you. To Sam, Matisse and Tiernan, I hope you can gain strength from your husband and father, because if ever there is a bloke to gain strength from, he is that man. You are a gem of an individual, who will never be forgotten. Rest in peace Big Guy, I love you. Thank you.
  8. Fair enough. I am not privvy to the area of Law which GJ specialises in, but have been told a few times that he is a legal star. I assume that despite a lack of criminal law experience, he would still have some grasp of this situation, and also know who to speak to in the event that he is out of his depth. I am no expert, but I can't see how his skills and experience don't count. Understand where you are coming from OD, but personally I'm (for the first time) more concerned about Liam than season 2012. Don't know why, just the way it is. It probably will get wearing, but having met Liam twice before, I just can't see him doing this and am willing to back him in all the way.
  9. Pretty well said by Mick, as much as I hate to admit it. That said, he was getting a royal bagging by all and sundry early last year, and then turned his season around and earnt quite alot of praise on here and in the media, so maybe we all need to chill a bit. I would like to see more obvious effort from him, but am willing to give him more time.
  10. Thank you so much for that Fork, it is greatly appreciated. What a fantastic insight from someone who knows alot about the sort of issues people like Liam and his people have to deal with. And may I offer my deepest condolences on the loss of your friend. I hope that somehow some good can come of all this mess for all and everyone concerned, although to people like myself it is hard to see how. Such a complex issue, if only we could find the answers.
  11. Whilst I understand what you guys are getting at, and would hate to have anything at all go against Liam, isn't Guy Jalland meant to be some sort of hotshot lawyer? If so, even before seeking outside input from other legal minds, we already have someone who is supposed to be a sparkling legal mind in-house. As I said, I understand where you guys are coming from, but am willing to accept that the best in the business are probably being consulted before making any decisions regarding such a sensitive issue.
  12. That is definitely true, but as I said, they do seem up and about, and it would break my heart to lose to them in the last rd of NAB.
  13. Did you see what they did to the Cats today and what we failed to do to the Hawks today??? I'd rather not play them when they're up and about, and give them a mental edge over us coming into the season.
  14. Well we know that is not going to happen I would like to play a North, someone around abouts where we are, get a better gauge of where we really are at going into the season proper.
  15. We were equally a bunch of boys last week, and were missing virtually all of our (alleged) quality. Not happy about what I saw today, but atm it is still the NAB Cup, so I'm not too stressed. If these sorts of crap efforts are still occuring come mid season, I will be very unhappy, but as it stands the season hasn't even started. And the Tiges flogged the Cats today, so........ I will however, admit that I am sick and bloody tired of not giving a yelp against the Hawks, but what are you to expect against such a team. I should hate them, but I can't help watching when they play, as they are truly awesome to watch. They may not have won the flag for a couple years, but they have still been the team I think is best to watch from a pure football point of view, and they are my pick for the flag this year, by a bit of a way too I reckon.
  16. I spent last night on my couch, bewildered, reading through the other thread which was locked yesterday, and read alot of things that really made me feel sad. Sad first of all for Liam, Basil and all of Liams people, sad for a few members of Demonland and sad for all of us really. But, I also found something which made me feel a bit more right, and that was a current of feeling that Liam, Basil and their people are more important than Football or even the MFC, and this is something I found quite refreshing. It is a terrible situation for all involved, and one which unfortunately, I feel is not yet over. Thanks must go to the media for largely, but not exclusively (HUN, you know who you are), showing a level of decency and sensitivity very rarely shown by such a pack of wolves. The most important thing I can hope for as a human being is that this sheds some light on the plight of indigenous Australians living in remote communities and that more is done to help them. Liam, I believe that you are a good person, and I hope more than anything that you come through this issue and can go on to make the most of your talents and use your position to try help your people as much as you can.

  18. Firstly, three players does not a common occurrence make. Second, Clint was given the option as to what he wanted to do, and to his eternal credit in my eyes, he decided to play and had a smoker. Stynes has also spent quite alot of time fostering relationships in indigenous communities, specifically Yuendumu, and I am certain that he would be very keen to see that Liam is afforded the time he needs as an elder of his community to deal with the issues at hand. I find it quite interesting that Mono started all of this and has been largely silent since. I posed the question last night (hoping for an answer in this conversation you are contributing to) about Grimes, and neither yourself or Mono have bothered to answer it. You were asked again and today and have given a politicians answer, that is, an answer without answering the question. I really do want to know what your opinion of the Grimes situation is, as I do not recall any criticism of Grimes for his holiday to FNQ at all. And lets be clear here, what Grimes had was a holiday. Liam is returning to a community of which he is an elder to deal with some personal issues facing his community. What these are, I do not profess to know, but the club does, and seem to have decided that it is fair to allow him this time. As an employee, he was injured in a workplace accident, and is unable to fulfill his normal employment, therefore he is eligible to be paid his normal salary (less match payments) through his rehabilitation. I cannot see how it takes much to realise this.
  19. I really did LOL. Nice one Rogue Nice to see that a bit of sense has prevailed out of AFL house for once. Here's hoping that this is the start of an upward trend in the AFL house common sense graph. And to the Bummers, hahahahahahaha, douchebags! Love to see those mugs looking the fool.
  20. Thanks for the perspective RudeBoy. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but I was of the belief that Liam is (through birth???) regarded as an elder of his community. This to me would suggest that he has certain responsibilities to his community, that would sometimes need to come before himself and his other responsibilities, and I would assume if correct that the club would have been fully aware of the potential of this sort of situation occurring at some time. I won't even bother commenting on the ignorance of some, but put my voice to those who reasonably point out that he is recovering from an injury caused at work, and just like Jack Grimes (I remember no noses out of joint about this one) should be allowed a bit of time if required. The other thing to remember in this is that JG was not going to North Queensland to deal with massive upheaval in his remote community, he was going to a tropical island for R&R. So I ask, who is taking the [censored] more, Liam or Captain Jack?? Maybe some of you out there might like to take a moment, have a think and reassess a little. If this is still going on in a month or two, then perhaps we can take another look at this issue, but for now, best of luck Liam, and please come back soon champ. Note: I harbour no ill will towards Jack Grimes for his time in FNQ, am just trying to make a point.
  21. Anything at all that make those GWS morons look stupid is all good by me. I think that GC didn't put too many noses out of joint too much because they went about thinks in a much more professional and respectful manner. With Sheedy on board, all GWS have done is step on toes and be disrespectful to all before them. At the start of last season, I found myself quite interested in GC, and was cheering them on in their maiden win. I won't be doing the same with GWS, and I truly do hope that they don't even get within cooee of a win.
  22. What a pack of wankers Essendon are. Really, grow a set and sit on a bus for crying out loud. I think they should miss out on the points based on idiocy alone.
  23. Well I wasn't able to watch last night, and have just finished watching on iQ. And what a way to start a Sunday Thought our boys were sensational. There is still a number of kinks to iron out, but the fortitude they showed to go down, fight back, go down again and really work back into it was really a sight to behold. It's no secret Nate Jones has been my favourite player for some time now, and he is really starting to show why now. I see him as being not dissimilar to a Brett Kirk type player. Not the most naturally gifted, but puts himself to the top through desire and will alone. Was a great game from him, and I think it won't be nearly the last. Of the others, Magner is fantastic, and I think along with Couch is a lock for the rookie spots, Martin continues to improve and show that despite being big, he is agile and can play all over the ground, Fitzpatrick showed he is a very likely type, Davis was good and should grow to be quite the handy player and I could go on and on. Credit must go to Green and Davey as well. They both showed that they might have overcome the demons that pagued them last year. Early days still, but signs are better than they have been in a long time, and I'll take a win over the Filth any day of the week.
  24. I would happily hazard a guess that CS wouldn't have spent too much time worrying about the blazers, and as RPFC alluded to, I'm sure he can multitask a little. I absolutely love it, whilst agreeing that it needs to be something which is really kept for special occasions. I can see this being something which two Jacks and a few other boys will cherish at the end of their long and successful careers Not only that, it's a one off. All for celebrating our tradition, and couldn't give a brass rahzoo what any other supporter has to say about it.
