Australia’s 17-man Ashes squad: Usman Khawaja, David Warner, Marcus Harris, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Matt Renshaw, Cameron Green, Mitchell Marsh, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitch Starc, Scott Boland, Nathan Lyon, Todd Murphy, Alex Carey, Josh Inglis.

Handscomb a little stiff, but otherwise no real surprissurprises for mine. I expect Warner will be given at least the first two tests. But if he's struggling and/or we're down early in the series the selectors may look to make a move. Harris is in good County form.

Playing Warner in England is such a risk. If he doesn't perform in the first test (because of course they'll pick him) they have to drop him, but I'm not confident that they will.

Cricket news may be pretty quiet until the World Test Championship and Ashes later in the year, but I just realised this year marks 10 years since our fascinating World Cricket draft.

Should we do another 10 years on? Can now also have the option of including players from Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan and Ireland??

    What do we think @Rogue @Biffen @Macca @H_T @titan_uranus @45HG @Scipio ?

    Is Shane still running around?

My god he was another genuine freak at suburban level when he got delisted from North..

I think they both played last season in the Northern yeah. I remember always checking the scores to see him kick at least 6 every single game, nuts.

Kicked his 1000th NFNL/DVFL goal early last year in roughly 12(?) seasons!

Well no, it's not laughable at all.

As I said, depends who you talk to around Shepparton. That's a well known folklore about Adem's 21 goals at schoolboy level.

I've had debate with people who were/is involved with the Shepparton United Footy club and alot of the opinions pointed toward that had Damien had the same dedication and maturity as what Adem had then he would have easily had the better career. He was an unreal cricketer as well and at one stage all his attention was on that and not footy which was more of a social outing for him. Probably worth noting that he would also barely train over the summer or week nights.

In his under 18's year Damien had already kicked 100 goals as a 17 year old. A rare feat at any junior level.

He was a star footballer just like Adem. He just didn't want to work hard for it.

Sounds like some strong parallels to Shane and Brent Harvey. End of the day, one of both sets of brothers had a fantastic AFL career and the other did not.

  5. So what do we expect the ideal balance between Max and Grundy? I've not seen a lot of Grundy over the last few years to be honest, so not sure how he fares up forward. Maxy can obviously clunk a few marks but his kicking is suspect.

Personally I thought Maxy and Jackson worked really well together when Max was floating back and intercepting pretty much everything that came his way. Will they try something like that?

    Short Memories.
Played some excellent games for us before his knee popped

Yeah I don't get this, he was unreal last year pre-injury. Everyone forgets. It's just unfortunate for Tomo that Petty is very, very good.

Essendon is a good fit for him. They are crying out for bigger bodied mids. All of their starting mids are relatively small/short

I'm still positive his best position is in the guts, so wouldn't be surprised if he played career best footy in the midfield for Essendon.

Suburban Melbourne premiers today (all games played in atrocious conditions)

    Heidelberg def Bundoora NFNL

    Noble Park def Rowville EFNL

    Strathmore def Aberfeldie EDFL

    Cranbourne def Cheltenham SFNL

    Altona def Werribee Dist. WRFL

Heidelberg & Noble Park have won a lot of flags.  Not sure on the Essendon & Western leagues but Cranbourne haven't always been in the Southern league

I thought Bundoora got up Macca?

Edit: was looking at the reserves scores

    Pendlebury 34y8m, Howe 32y2m, Sidebottom 31y8m, Elliott 30y0m.

These players were crucial to Collingwood's performance this year. It doesn't last forever.

Plus a bunch of youngsters playing way out of their skin... reminds me a little bit of us in 2018.

So satisfying to see Collingwood lose in that fashion. Even more so to see their fans sooking about the umpiring, when they won a handful of their games later in the season on the back of suspect umpiring and gifted goals (including against us).

Jeff Garlett's Albury Tigers team who have been an absolute powerhouse of the ovens and Murray were eliminated last week. Same club where Daniel Turner was recruited from.

Leigh Williams who was a former rookie listed player, now plays for Yarrawonga and took our the league goal kicking. They're set to play off in a preliminary final.

Really good to hear Leigh Williams doing well, I remember when he had that brain infection episode back when he was listed.

If goes to another club I will boo him. You don't get away with leaving Melbourne unless you have won a premiership in my eyes.

That's ridiculous, if Bedford leaves he's just another young player looking for more opportunity. You can't blame him for that.
