I consider that evert once in a while you read something really sensible on the Internet and when it happens it ought be recognized and appreciated. If one thing could be added - I could never bring myself to embrace anarchy because although it's relatively easy to destroy and bring things down, it really shouldnt be done until there's something better to replace it in the frame ( maniacal despots excluded of course and I wouldn't think the above fits into that category)

Wouldn't never ever get him but ......... Dermott Brereton would be interesting

Excusez-moi. (from Paris ) Would it be fair to say that a strong and determined coach should have an influence on how things evolve with Scully's re-signing (resigning?)? How far along that track might we be? -
While agreeing with you (from Swansea in the UK and somewhat removed from the cerebral heart of all this ) I 's gots to ask: Was not Martin Pike a boofhead bogan after striking out at Nth Melb and Melbourne before going north and participating in three premierships? I'm not saying he's learned a single thing -he may well be even more confirmed in his stupidity than he ever was : it's just the principle I'm arguing

Spot on When various people suggest we've got to stop being nice guys (/gals) - this is part of it :- Calling It Like It Is There's a blackmail element to it : there will likely be a price to be paid

Agree with this in the sense that while emotion is a wonderful ( if overrated ) thing what counts much more is the cold hard decision of your will that requires commitment and hard yards, Sincerely look forward to seeing Garry show a modicum of such ( real ) dedication. It may yet happen.

Don't know much about much but I do remember we stuck with the bad boy Martin Pike for probably 2 years more than we should have in an attempt to get him to turn around and be a responsible player. Didn't happen. If I remember correctly he then went to North and when he lucked out he got his final chace at Brisbane. He knew at that stage it's now or never literally and that is when he finally became a disciplined footballer - a little like Barry Hall's story. It was our bad luck we got him seven years too early. It wasn't MFC's mismanagement is all I'm saying

Apparently MFC Stand for Nothing
Crompton's the man replied to Demon SeaMan's topic in Melbourne Demons
Having been to a Collingwood President's lunch I would like it to be publicly known that their media image of being working class battlers is both totally fictitious and hilarious at the same time. I have never seen so much money in one room at the same time apart from vision of OPEC meetings. It really is time we started to call them on our supposed ski season reputation. -
Thanks E No personal contact here but appreciate the thought

The Board in its (hopefully ) wisdom will in due course decide. The decision to overlook Sheedy now looks interesting ( and I'm not being smart-arse : I was ambivalent at the time) Malthouse is an arrogant and powerful man. Arguably exactly what we need to put some spine and most of all confidence into the players. If not him then is there really any other of his ilk? I would love to think so - can someone reassure me as I'm feeling very insecure ATM

Hi I've no idea how to do this so I've searched the site and the only way I can see to ask this question is by writing to you ( sorry) How do I change my password? ( I have clicked on the link suggested and can log in - just can't see the procedure for change of password) Thanks

Moral choice : Determinism - I can do no other than respond to stimuli ( GWS ) : Free Will - I am not a slave to the inducements that are presented be they even though as apparently irresistible compulsions Let's just sit back and see who he really is oh and by the way if determinism is the actual situation on the planet then there is no such thing as the ability to make "moral choices" - the matter is settled
-
Speaking of a trumpet - what happened to the trumpet that played the GOF at home games last year? Anyone know?

From where I sit , and I have no claim to insight especially, there are a number of considerations and here are some : 1. the attributed compensation sounds attractive 2. we have apparently amazing young talent on our list to the extent that unless gun footballers clearly stand head and shoulders above others there will be serious competition for places in the team in the coming years ( absent a high injury toll) 3. the problem with talented 17 yos is their development track combined with the fact that when they really do start to perform we may actually be faced with the same poaching/salary cap situation we are currently in and posibly no net gain at the end of the day 4. justice demands that our list managers distribute salaries according to some kind of rational balance - the fact that the whole situation has been skewed by the AFL giving GWS an almost infinite amount of money to act seductively with unfortunately means that a prudent established club MUST act responsibly lest in our attempt to match the unmatchable we do more harm than good My last thought is 5. if we do get good compensation we need proven and mature and established performers to bolster our toughness in the ball-winning arena ( one of my sons keeps on talking about Goddard) Tough nuts like Moloney, Jones and hopefully Tapscott are arguably the spine of a team that can win the ball and in time our taller players will beef up like Watts has done (not finished yet)and be able to out-body opponents once we have won the ball and learned to deliver to advantage.

With what we now know about Eastern Europe and its structure and influence following the breakdown of the Soviet bloc, it is now generally acknowleged that there were in fact truly Reds under the Bed

Heath Shaw Suspended for Betting on his Own Team
Crompton's the man replied to jnrmac's topic in Melbourne Demons
Have to say - knowing Ray Shaw personally and a finer man you would never ever meet He would be very upset at his son's silly action -
Max Gawn for me It's interesting to see how the Freedmen have gone without Aaron Sandilands. I can remember close to 20 years ago we kept an extremely tall youngster on our list for years - sadly couln't play the game. No such worries with the Max
-
Absolutely correct - and it goes wwaaaayyyyy back Maybe we do need one of the Filth's discards But that avenue is about to be blocked off P.S. we don't need too many more young and undeveloped talents on the list - maybe more like Beamer I think I'll look up Punt Road End to make myself feel better

Has anyone heard of the 12 steps? Perhaps we could go through them one by one. This is good but it's hard
