I think it's fair to expect some improvement though, year in year out. We have had a horror injury run this year, but the manner in which we have played and lost in some games has been disheartening. I am more interested in our development and it will be from next year onwards (in particular 2013-2015)that I expect us to be amongst the better sides. Once our young guns become the core group (75-100 games or more) we will be a much better side.

Hopefully there is some sort of abnormal whether event that makes scoring almost impossible for both teams. Seriously though, this is far from the best 22 we'd like to send in on any given week. So many players are only in the team because of a lengthy injury list. Hopefully they make the most of it. As long as they put in 100% for four quarters, I will be happy. Can't see us getting with in 4 or 5 goals though.

Either way, there are going to be a lot of "told you so's" on this site soon.

Blues by 31 points. I think the boys will give it everything they have, but with a massive injury list and an in form Carlton team, it is a massive challenge ahead.

I've noticed on multiple occasions (e.g., Damian Barrett twice on footy show) that when the talk of GWS scalps starts, that Scully doesn't even get a mention. In fact, apart from forums like this and BigFooty, there is very little discussion of this possibility. Can't wait to see him back out there in a few weeks.

Personally, I think Gawn is a bit underdone to be put in the senior side. Howe should be given a crack though. Will be an interesting team selection, with Strausse and others' also being mentioned as possible inclusions.

Round 12/13 we should have most players back, baring Grimes and perhaps Garland.

The younger the Melbourne supporter, the more optimistic and hopeful they will be. I am 26 and still have some hope I will see this club when a premiership. For anybody who is 40/50 or older, I can understand your bitter disappointment.

I thought I would put in the supercoach rankings again for comparison 4 - Martin (105 points) 3- Gysberts (98 points) 3 - Moloney (98 points) 2 - Sylvia (96 points) 2 - Jetta (96 points) 1 - Green (93 points) Only 1 player above 100 is not good. SC scores obviously do not take into account many other important stats/factors that influence a game and the worth of a player.

With a full list and a 4 quarter effort, we are capable of rolling all three of those teams. Unfortunately, we do not have a full list (too many important players injured) and we rarely put together a 4 quarter effort, so will struggle in all three.

When Green goaled against Adelaide a few weeks back and grabbed at his jumper as he looked to the crown...we need that sort of passion week in, week out by 22 players on the field.
-
HA HA HA, that was gold. We need some humour in these difficult times.

Good call glenn, the kid is going to be something special and I am happy it is starting to work out for him, because he has had to cop a lot of attention and scrutiny since being draft. He is one of our youngest players yet I am more confident when he has the balls than many other senior players.

We have really been hurt bad by injuries now but at least they gave it a crack. I am pretty proud of the effort considering. Disappointing that Davey is really struggling but the young players such as Watts, Evans, Gysberts etc are coming along nicely and it will be these group of players that take the team to a 13th premiership, should it ever happen. I can still understand the hurt and frustration of some users of this site, as Melbourne are having a bloody tough season (injuries, some real lapses in form) while other teams similar in development continue to go past us (Richmond,, West Coast). Essendon.

Wouldn't surprise me if Scully inks a 1-year deal for the same (assumed) purposes of Pendlbury. Makes a lot more sense really. Gives him another year to consider how he feels about playing for this club (if we don't improve next year, not a good sign) and it also gives him more games to increase his worth should he decide to leave.
-
Green probably realises that if we do win a premiership in the next 5-10 years, there is a good chance that he would have moved on (by choice or not) before that time.
-
Perhaps the idea that they gave up psychologically rather than physically is the best way to put it. They were still out on the field playing a game of football, but up stairs, they may have accepted defeat well before the final siren had sounded.

Players should be put on performance based contracts. They get paid a lot of money to do a job, and they still get paid despite poor performances. If most people went to their job and didn't do it properly, they would get into a heap of strife (pay cut, fired etc). Footballers are in a luxurious position where they can still get paid if when they perform poorly. It is especially worse at a club lacking depth, because the threat of being demoted to the seconds is less relevant. If we had PFC, the game - and at least our team - would be better.
-
And we I starting of this season thinking 'gee, we've been luck injury wise'. Gives young players a chance to shine though I guess.
-
I can see us beating the Saints. They can barely put together a decent score so as long as the Dee's attack well and score big, they will win.

Attachment just reloads Demonland page. This argument/excuse/reason about our development/games player/average age is certainly valid, but it is the manner in which we are losing that is dissapointing. We lost 13 games last year, and I don't think any of those losses were as poor as the three losses we've had this year.
-
He showed a lot of promise last year, but for his time on the list, has been a big failure.
-
I like him and he is only 23 and one of our leaders. Really highlights how young the list is. Hope they can pull of a win for him.

Dont read this if you dont like statistics

Richmond are down 40 points to the Dogs late into the 2nd term too...
