IMO they'll do a lot better than most people think, particularly in the first half of the season. They haven't done to badly with a top up team in the past.

You know that's not going to happen LH, unfortunate as it might be. If anything it will increase interest in that match, which the AFL and Ch 7 will love dearly. The only thing that might stop the ANZAC day Ess vs Coll match happening would be if the RSL and Fed govt turned against it. Even then, there must be a contract or MOU that commits to it going ahead.

If players cannot be paid, Essendon are going to have to pay the upgraded players a shltload of money to reach the minimum salary cap total payment. Or increase the payment to senior players not hit with the ban. And we will have to deal with the SC reduction due to Milkshake not playing in 2016. My guess is the AFL will bend the SC rules for all clubs with banned players to accommodate this scenario.

Err, not he didn't. It was the Hawthorn members who saved us from a merger. The same MFC members who vote for the president voted for the merger. In his book 'The Urge to Merge', Ian Ridley claimed that Joe initially agreed to a merger if the players supported it.
