    OUT: Harmes (forever), Petty (inj)

    IN: Oliver, Tomlinson/Hibberd

    Such bad news re: Petty. Not only does it stuff our forward structure but it also stuffs us in defence. I thought Smith was superb in defence against North before he was switched forward when Petty went down. Tommo/Hibberd to defence and Smith forward for the foreseeable future. Grundy just isn’t a forward and hasn’t had enough exposure at VFL level for us to select him at this stage.

    To me the two who need a break more than anyone are Viney and May.

    Viney keeps having a pinched shoulder in collisions and a week of hard running should get him cherry ripe for finals.

     May has carried our defence and he's now well past 30 - he needs a breather before finals.

    Gawn can be rested, but surely it's better to just rest his workload during the game by bringing back Grundy to work in tandem with him for a week. We will need two rucks this week as North plays Goldy and Xerri.

    Woey unfortunately slips out as well, but the good thing is that he now has four games at AFL under his belt for him to work on for next year.

    Hibberd just has to play after his effort last week in VFL.

    So for me it's Out: Viney, May and Woewodin. In: Grundy, Sparrow and Hibberd.

    Tomlinson also should be out after last week, but with May rested, he has to remain in side this week.

    Harmes goes out before Woey does. I’d even have Jordon out before Woey.

    The talk of resting players against North doesn’t wash with me. We aren’t playing them at the ‘G, we’re playing them in Hobart at a ground where they have become accustomed to playing which will even things out somewhat. Still think we win convincingly but you just don’t flirt with good form.

    Only changes that I would like to see are Harmes and/or Jordon for Oliver and/or Sparrow depending on the fitness of the latter two. Happy for Hibberd to find his way in as well, perhaps for one of Jordon/Harmes if both Clarry and Sparrow aren’t quite ready.

    We’ll likely get a better idea after the first practice match but here’s how I think we’re looking for round 1 based on the pre-season so far;

    B: Petty, May, Rivers

    HB: Brayshaw, Lever, Bowey

    C: Langdon, Oliver, Hunter

    HF: Neal-Bullen, McDonald, Fritsch

    F: Pickett, Brown, Spargo

    R: Gawn, Petracca, Viney

    I: Grundy, Sparrow, Chandler, McVee

    Sub: Harmes

    E: Jordon, Hibberd, JVR, D Turner

    Injured: Salem

    His back half of 2021 was elite once he was moved into the midfield. As classy as they come.

    Really fell away in 2022 form-wise and was also dealing with some personal issues.

    Hope we’re having discussions with his management as I think with a fresh start he would be a great fit for the Dees.

    Surely T Mac just comes in for him and Gawn shoulders almost all of the ruck work.

    He’s an absolute [censored]. Constantly getting players mixed up, comments which make little to no sense and clearly has a lack of understanding of today’s game.

    Referring to All-Australian and  premiership player Steven May as ‘Froffies’ May during the GF really [censored] me off.
