we do not... (edit... damn - about 10 minutes too late - nothing worse than second to the post humor)

The ghost of Fred Fanning came to me last night and said 17. He was going for his 18th after the siren in the fourth quarter and although it went through Goddard sooked it up and they sent it upstairs and the video ref pressed the wrong button and called it a point.

Went and saw Roos and Vince speak there mid season last year. A good night...

This really needs to be looked at. We can debate "affiliation vs stand alone" but to me the bigger issue is this league not starting and finishing their season at the same time as the AFL. The first game is 9th April - which is already AFL round 3. We need to be getting real game time ( even if it is limited minutes) into Petracca and Trengove and allow the likes of Stretch, ANB and others to show good game form and put pressure on the seniors - makes it more difficult for them when their chance to shine is two weeks behind the AFL schedule.

Yes there is a god - and his name is Jesse Hogan - I thought I'd make this argument even more circular than it already is....

MATCH PREVIEW & TEAM SELECTION - ROUND 2, 2016
nutbean replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Dunn's disposal is not a problem in my opinion - Essendon are small in the forward line - Lumumba can go back in my opinion and he adds more run that Dunn. -
And when a team has struggled like we have in the not too distant past that is exactly what I would have called us - indecisive.( more accurately - lacking in confidence to be decisive) How many times do you hear coaches say " we didn't take the game on". Top teams back their own ability in and pull the trigger first time thus moving the ball quickly. Struggling teams tend to stop/start - a mixture of those upfield not working hard enough to get free and those with the ball not willing or having confidence to release the ball quickly to a player making a lead. Edit - what a breath of fresh air Aaron VDB was in the last quarter - getting a free kick and jumping up and running off when the player was next to him getting the ball to a one on one for Hogan. Caught everyone off guard and earned Hogan a free kick as GWS did not have the time to set themselves up properly. Pulling the trigger first time - I love it !

MATCH PREVIEW & TEAM SELECTION - ROUND 2, 2016

I had it surgically removed. For me - this is the test of the well worn comments by all the coaches at the MFC - "we have a team of competitors". If our team competes at is should and can, the scoreboard will take care of itself. -

hell, if we win every game by 60 plus - I'd be happy watching in a freakin Collingwood jumper. (or bukk nekkid - neither option is particularly appealing) -
I would suggest not when there are two years left on the contract.

In fairness, nobody has ever questioned his value when he plays like he did on Saturday. His value has been questioned on many occasions when he has not played like that. -

This is where the argument falls over for me. I believe you are setting a different standard for Watts ( and Fraser) because they were high draft picks. I suspect the counter argument is that they were gifted games because they were high draft picks. I tend to agree that Watts had his moments over his career that have been mouth watering and then large doses of inconsistency. The most relevant argument for me is who would you have replaced him with. We have been bereft of footballers kicking off the dew at Casey that have been busting the door down to get a game. We have not had enough pressure from Casey footballers to lift the 22 playing for the MFC to higher standards. There is no one i can think off that was hard done by ( in recent years) by gifting games to others. (I don't buy Stef Martin - his main flaw with us is he could not string long blocks of games together without injuring himself.) -
start to worry when he orders a soy chai latte..

After my third watch I decided the biggest plus is we put in for four quarters with varying degrees of success - Parts of the 1st and last quarter were good. The intent was pretty good all day - the execution was off and we certainly didn't create enough space in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. It does give some joy that we played overall just ok against a good side and got the lollies.
-
I do not write players off - especially youngun's like Oscar - I would prefer to say that I don't think he is ready yet. Would prefer to see some more game time at Casey for him.

Each to their own - I just can't afford another TV set so I stopped watching the footy shows years ago ( i had this reflex habit of throwing my shoe at the TV screen every time Sam Newman came on and attempted humor ..well I think that was what he was attempting... one can't be too sure)

Again whilst I am in no way shape or form comparing him with Scully but I cannot help but laugh at posters reading Hogan's body language and nuances and suggesting they are indicators. The exact same thing transpired with Voldemort - constant looking at how he acted and reacted. There is no doubt that Scully's demeanor was odd at his time at Melbourne - well so i thought until I heard on SEN talking about the GWS boys after the game in the hotel and they said the banter between all the players was really good except for one T Scully - he stood around by himself like a cardboard cutout So like Nasher, I am going to enjoy watching Hogan play like lots of others in our team and work on the assumption that Hogan will remain a Demon right up until the time he is not - be it 2 years, 5 years or when he retires..
-
What do you think goes through a players mind ? A) I am not going to honor a really good lead as I am worried the player leading is going to spill the mark; or b) Is the players leading a substantial enough distance from opponents for me to effect a good pass or is the degree of difficulty to high for me to attempt the pass - am I going to be able hit him on the lead ?
-
I actually think the opposite - but I agree it is confidence - I don't think that leads are ignored because of lack of confidence in who they are kicking to - I think players on our team have often ignored leads as the player kicking is not confident enough that he will make the pass. The difference for me when I watched the really good team is they have the utmost confidence in their ability to hit their team mate and pull the trigger first time. I think this is changing though - some of the turnovers or spoils are occuring because we are pulling the trigger on passes that would not have been attempted last year and the year before.

Dave Misson's injury report- what a pleasure - shortest segment I can remember in a long time !

I know Turnbull is walking a tightrope between the right and centre factions of his party and is therefore stymied into basically doing nothing at all ( or just plain unwilling) but I cannot for a minute think that anyone in the Liberal Party think that the public would stand for an Abbott comeback. (except Eric Abetz and Corey Bernadi) Wrecker - can you foresee Abbott back in the top job ?
