  1. I have read some outlandish "facts" on this website before - I hope everyone keeps posting everything from the believable to the totally unbelievable and let all make up their own mind as to how believable a post it actually is. Now if you will excuse me, I need to be somewhere else so I am going to hop aboard my dragon and fly to the planet Xerxes.
  2. Okay - I am a man with a short attention span and commitment issues. I am devoted to Game of Thrones and that is pretty much it however we are going away for almost a month over September ( I got that right...) - what series should I download and take with me ?
  3. Agree. The theory and overall end result was sound - the execution was horrible
  4. I'm atheist too but I'm not sure what in gods name that has got to do with this debate....
  5. Its up to each of us to feel comfortable with certain posters "sources". Seen enough of GNF's work to feel comfortable.
  6. I can't believe that you don't believe Biffen..... (unbelievable !)
  7. I pretty much read this as - he intends to re-sign so now come the finer points of the negotiations and there are lots of i's to be dotted and t's to be crossed so it may take some time. News gets out pretty fast and I think it is about managing expectations.
  8. I'm quite cynical on cigarettes and the Government. I have read in many places that if they banned cigarettes the money they save in cigarette related health issues and money spent on anti smoking campaigns would more than compensate for the taxes collected on tobacco. I think the Government would prefer to collect and spend the tax money.
  9. Don't be hard on yourself. As foolish as you think Rudd made you feel , pollies make themselves look foolish x 10.
  10. I love you too xxx
  11. see what i wrote down the bottom of my post. (now enlarged) I said "small attempt at humor" - i may change that to "failed attempt at humor". Love you old dee XX
  12. get stuffed old dee (small attempt at humor)
  13. I have been accused of being verbose - and I'll wear that. (also been accused of being argumentative and not letting go - sigh... that is probably fair as well) Maybe intellectual rigor is probably the wrong word. 99% of opinions I let go because they are just that - opinions with no right or no wrong. And whilst I may not agree with reasoning behind the opinion - a lot of the reasoning again tends to fall into the realms of opinion. "Chris Dawes is an exceptional contested mark" - opinion or factually incorrect ? You have to draw the line somewhere.
  14. We don't know what the circumstances are - and probably won't . There is a suggestion of it causing friction amongst the group - again no idea whether true or false. I will say if clubs give individuals special consideration purely based on the fact that they are their best players in what is a team sport with the a group trying to reach the pinnacle as a team then you can understand the friction. Players are usually supportive of other players getting consideration for exceptional circumstances.
  15. There you go - healthy debate around the value of Tyson - all good. However - you critiqued his game on Sunday not based on your "I'm not a big fan" but rather on that one game. (not so much wound up - but yeah, I will bite when faced with the screamingly obvious - that Sunday was a good Tyson game and all I get back is a critique of his whole career and he is overrated. This thread is about a report card from one game.) As I said - and I was not being condescending - 95% of the comments are close to the money in my opinion. Some we have differing opinions on and that' s all good but there is an obvious bent on Tyson and the same type of comment is made week on week irrespective of how he plays)
  16. We bemoaned the Neeld years where we had one midfielder only who could get his hands on the ball (Jones) - now we have numerous options which is good thing. Tyson in form is a ball magnet - his hands are very good - his foot skills can be a little iffy. He can also be a little slow to dispose and get caught. He gets as much contested ball as Jones and slightly less than Viney but has a superior disposal efficiency % than Viney, Jones or Vince ( I used three players who play in "heat"). Tyson does turn it over but I think he suffers from the same syndrome as Tmac - when he turns it over it can be under little pressure and looks diabolical.
  17. I agree 95% of the time and also enjoy the thread. But come on, Old Dee - most things are an opinion but you want to be able to back it up with some sort of intellectual rigor don't you ? If the opinion is that Dom Tyson can turn the ball over - nobody is going to disagree. If the opinion is that Dom Tyson can sometimes lack awareness - nobody is going to disagree. Lets draw the analogy with TMac - there is fierce debate on here as to his worth - whether his turnovers outweigh his value to the team. A valid argument and one you can also have about Tyson ( and probably half a dozen other footballers that can cough the ball up) - but the three word analysis is a weekly judgement of one game and you judge each players game on its merit. Dom Tyson has had games where his errors have outweighed his effectiveness but each game any player should be judged on that game not on a preconceived notion. Tyson has 31 touches, went at 80% efficiency . I watched the replay again to make sure I didn't miss anything - maybe four or five disposals didnt hit the mark - his hands were clean - he rarely fumbled. He had one unawareness moment where he got pinged. He was clearly our best mid and acknowledged by all and sundry in the top 5 players on the ground. The sad part is - we were joking at the game exactly what would be written about his game and it came to pass. "everything on Demonland is opinion" - sorry - that's a cop out. There are some things that move from the realms of opinion to right or wrong. I happily debate with yourself and others on matters of opinion. I do tend to fire up when statements exit the land of considered opinion.
  18. Not only am I condescending, but I am also a curmudgeon, prone to pedantry and worst of all - a lickspittle - that still doesn't make me wrong.
  19. It is interesting how we all see and hear different things. I think Dunstall actually has a soft spot for us. The only thing I think everyone has agreed on is Dwayne Russell and Greg Denham are flogs of the highest order - that opinion has universal acceptance.
  20. Deledio's comment is bizarre...
  21. keep fighting the fight.... You really could have stopped after your line "I'd go as far as to say that I think Tyson is one of the most overrated footballers I've seen at the club". One commentator says Tyson was in top three players on the ground then dismiss it. If a few commentators say that Tyson was in the top 3 players on the ground then maybe re-evaluate your thoughts. If every commentator had Tyson in the votes including both coaches maybe you should have another look at the replay, park the preordained " most overrated player Ive seen at the club" and just say maybe you got it wrong. I quite like your 3 word analysis - you get most of them pretty spot on every week - and yes it is opinion but unfortunately when it comes to your thoughts on Tyson - "butchers opinion regularly"
  22. I am not mixing up anything - I was picking up on Lucifers Hero's comment " Also, It was mentioned that his teammates are upset because he negotiated extended holiday period and would have a later start to the preseason" - Negotiating extended holiday period ??? spare me - that is special treatment and something that doesnt sit well. I fully understand why other players may be peeved if that is the case. Secondly I did not suggest that Ablett's treatment is the reason the GC is struggling but it has been reported on the football shows that it has been causing some irritation. Of course they have larger issues than this but thirdly and most importantly - you mentioned how it impacted his season. Earlier you mentioned Dustin Martin as well. I have never once mentioned how it impacted Rances performance - it is how the affects the "team". Nathan Jones is such a superbly tuned athlete why not give him half the preseason off ? it would not make the slightest bit of difference to him. I never said Rance wasn't setting good standards but if a player came to me and said he wanted to a negotiate an extended break unless it was for some special circumstances then the answer is you put in the hard yards like everyone else. To me you are throwing "special circumstances" into the mix - when H took his time off as he was struggling with issues everyone was supportive. When Liam Jurrah left to go home due to family reasons everyone was supportive. When Hogan goes home for a few weekends a year since he is homesick everyone was supportive ( except the crazies on Demonland who think it was to tee up his contract with Freo). When there are special circumstances noone bats an eyelid. But if as Lucifer said - players are unhappy with his negotiated extra holiday - what does that tell you ? Unless no one is unhappy and its a load of nonsense....then.. what we are arguing about ?
  23. That was unbelievable decision - I yelled from my seat "DELIBBERRATEEE" when he kicked it and when it was paid I sheepishly said "really ?" I am hating this new interpretation - it is now not only penalising skill errors but players are also not only being pinged for deliberately putting it out - but not trying hard enough to keep it in.
  24. Big statement - Unfortunately his old man has blight on his career which I do not think defined him - but otherwise Steven Stretch was a great player - good skills, fast, but could take a very good mark which I dont think will be Billy's go - that's not to say Billy will not be a good player
  25. They make exceptions for Cyril because he is so susceptible to soft tissue injuries. And preseason is about both - harder and smarter. The older players come back later than and they don't push the first years and second years as hard. And they allow some of players ( like Hogan ) to go back to WA mid season to visit family and he may miss one training session - but this is mental health - make sure he doesn't get too homesick. And being first on last off is not to impress the boss - but talk to the Carlton folk about Judd when he got to the club - he set the standard in training. You want your leadership group setting the bar high. Take for example Chris Dawes - when he was injured he apparently was working with Weideman and Hulett on body position and leading patterns - setting the example - and he is not even in the leadership group. There is rumblings from the Gold coast as well on the special treatment of Ablett and the poor standard he has set and they are having their issues. Making training exceptions purely based on one's abilities just doesn't work.
