  2. So if the reports of his father being gravely ill are true (I am taking these reports at face value) what time limits do you put on leave required ? Different people react differently to family issues depending on any number of variables. The difference with just giving compassionate leave is Jesse's family is in a different state. When my father was ill and subsequently passed away, I took time off to be with dad before he passed away and after to help mum, but I could also work and see family after work, before work, weekends etc. we were all in Melbourne. If the reports of his indecision is due to family, I understand the dilemma as it is difficult being away from family during good times let alone during difficulties.
  3. My problem is not with age per se but how long a player has got left ( i know...semantics). The longer these guys play together the more they will gel and i think that is where we are at with our timeline. We have plenty of raw talent which will develop both organically but also will develop the more they play with each other. I can only see Thompson playing a year which is my knock on him.
  4. This... We are crying out for more leadership - but i dont think we should be looking at 34 year old leadership
  5. I'm think it is more poorly administered than ill conceived. If a first year player is the best first year player for that weekend for 4 weekends in a row then he should get 4 nominations. The award as it stands is more about recognising a young player that has played well and "spreading the love" rather than picking the best 1st year player on any given weekend. It is flawed.
  6. This is a better comparison than Rioli - small forwards are notoriously inconsistent ( except if your Eddie Betts). Is there big fluff in football than the weekly rising star - they usually get the winner right but the weekly award is a nonsense.
  7. Hibberd has a cannon of a leg and is very neat with his disposal. Melksham can be a bit iffy.
  8. Hmmm...our scoring improved 23.6% from last year to this year...whilst our defense marginally improved on last year as well but yeah... lets reshuffle...
  9. lordy... You look at each player and what they have brought to the table to date, and most importantly, the players upside and the players ability/desire to reach the upside. Salem in 21 and has had injury issues ( none of which should impact him reaching his full potential) - an absolute keeper for mine.
  10. I see it slightly different - mentally immature and young.
  11. There is excuses and then there is reality. We keep hearing about how young a team we are and you can dismiss all you like but there is a reason why 2 and 3 year old horses don't win Melbourne cups. There is a reason why brand new entrants into formula one scene don't take out the big prize and there is reason why 10 year old scotch works much better than something that was bottled yesterday. I am impatient as anybody. We are not strong enough. We are not mature enough. We are not mentally tough enough. I don't see that as an excuse - that is where we are at here and now. Under Roos each year i have seen the good get better and the bad get less. I have seen what looks like a list that can go places be assembled. I expect to improve next year again and if we have the same improvement on this years base that means finals.
  12. Really ? took two years to debut and 23 games over the six seasons since debuting. I know he has had injuries and he well may make the grade but on his resume to date I hardly think he is "exactly the sort of player we need".
  13. Dangerfield is difficult to stop on most days.
  14. Drafted in 2009 - not enough time ?
  15. I bear all players who leave our club no ill will but I think you may be rewriting history first to suggest correct decisions in traffic ( does that include that glorious attempt at tunnel ball from the goal square last year ??? ) and quickly given the shove ???? How many years was he on the list ?? Good on you for getting getting a gig fitzy...
  16. Don't always agree - but enjoyable read - 3 words...well done joeboy
  17. I agree he needs to get his kicking right. But I got news for you. A footballer who is taking 9 out of his 14 marks between the wing and centre half forward is a centre half forward
  18. surely not... As much as we want to win against the cats tomorrow in any man's language it is a dead rubber - we are playing for pride. However Casey is not playing for pride - Casey is playing for silverware.
  19. Hmmm...14 marks last week. Only 5 times close enough to kick goals ( kicked 1.3 and gave a simple one away to ANB in the goalsquare)..where exactly do you think he played for the great majority of the time last week ?
  20. My prediction is that Oliver will tear it up in the preseason and then Goodwin will not select him round one citing "management"...then.... Picket Fence's head will explode clean off his shoulders.....
  21. seeing Ben Folds with a chamber orchestra on Friday night - should be a pearler (yes Tim - i will get to my favourite alltime albums - so many to choose from)
  22. kicking coach for Hogan ? ( had to be said)
  23. I don't think it is about a premiership - Double edged sword - further develop young kids - and a Harvey obviously stymies that. Others at the club learn from the likes of Harvey. The feedback received from the Daniel Cross has been truly amazing. He educated players around him both on and off the field. That's what a Harvey can bring. Having said that - in my previous post I did suggest a big if - on how quickly his "end" will come.
  24. I would prefer he went out on his own terms at North than go to another club but that ain't gonna happen. My big if's on getting someone of his age is when the downward spiral comes ( and it does come to all athletes) it will happen pretty quickly to a 38 year old. The question is "can a Harvey seamlessly move to new team mates, with a new coach, with a new game plan and produce what he is producing now ?" If the answer is yes you would take him ( and it appeared that Stevie J adapted very quickly to his new home and Daniel Cross was great value for us). I would hate for Boomers sake to go to another club and struggle - not a fitting way for a great of the game to go out.
