Neeld made a lot of mistakes, but this wasn't one of them

No...its your opinion. ( unless of course you are his doctor and breaking parent/doctor confidentiality) -

On captaincy ? I seriously don't care. What I do want to see happen next season is what I see at other clubs. I want what we consider our top tier players/leaders leading the way. It speaks volumes about last year that Terlich finished third in the Bluey, Matt Jones fourth and Dunn sixth. This is not disrespect to these players but is damning on other players who we know should producing more. -

That's the million dollar question - Neeld undoubtedly wanted to break the acceptance of "close enough good enough" from the past. This permeated through all sections of the club ( as I saw it) - he just didn't have the people skills to do it. From an outsiders viewpoint Peter Jackson looks like a very professional customer who seems to work with people and I have always admired Roos engaging approach and the way he brings people along. The big question is whether he gets buy in from everyone ( and this buy in gets difficult to maintain when you are not winning games so this will be the test) -

Interestingly - If you had a blueprint of what Bailey identified as wrong with our club/playing list/culture and what he wanted to implement as opposed to what Neeld identified as problematic with our club and what he wanted to do and how he wanted to change things, I would say Neeld was streets ahead in indentifying where were failing. As we have painfully found out, knowing what the problems are and having the skillset to fix the problems are two entirely different things. -

I think there was a statement in making Trengove and Grimes captains - that the older players had failed the club in leadership, onfield performance and setting any reasonable standard for the youth of the club to follow. Can anyone disagree with this ? The problem was that the jobs of Trengove and Grimes became even harder as some older players were exited and those who remained did not buy in. When Moloney was dumped from the leadership group by Bailey for his indiscretion he publicly went on record saying that he didnt need to be in the leadership group to be a leader of the club - admirable sentiments indeed. Contrast that to the reaction of the senior players when they were "dismissed" under Neeld. I supported many of the things that I could see Neeld trying to do - trying to change our putrid culture, acknowledging that our seniors had not performed, acknowledging that our fitness was not up to AFL standard. From where I sit Neeld only made one mistake - execution and in turn bringing all players and officials along with him. ( and that was a huge matzoh ball of a mistake) -
I think there has been plenty of comment and pointers to disfunction under Neeld and Magners comment's were not only about being disgruntled that he didnt get a game but was also adding further fuel to existing opinion regarding communications. You only had to watch our performances onfield to see the disconnect.

I think I might have a naughty video starring Blake Acres.

Ummm no... Laidler is a perfect example - he said that he thought he was doing well in the VFL but he wasnt in Malthouse's plans - compare that with Magner who talked about lack of communication and contradictory messages coming from coaches. There is a stark difference. Happy to move on as long as we are objective about our past and don't try and rewrite a history ( a sad history).

Not sure where they have bagged Neitz ? All I am seeing is honest appraisal with no malice ( except from someone you didnt name). Neitz is undoubtedly a champion of our club. However with unbiased reflection, I wouldn't put him in the class of other forwards such as Dunstall, Carey and Lockett. He was great but he wasn't a superstar of the AFL. Whilst we don't want to pressure the kid we are crying out for a superstar and to say we are hoping that Hogan turns out better than Neitz is not a criticism of Neitz's contribution - it is more a desire that Hogan' s career goes one step further than Neitz's .

Look at any other teams kick in strategies. Not hard to dissect. It is about the ability to work hard and present, not once, not twice but multiple times until your opponent drops off or you find a hole in the zone. Number one thing to eliminate from last year is laziness from the players in the defensive 50 and we are more than half way there. ( I felt sorry for the poor bastard at full back kicking out last year who would look up the ground and see concrete pillars wearing Melbourne jumpers) -
Interesting other three. I don't see Neville in the same light as the three you mentioned. These three are exactly the teasers I alluded to. Not to say any of the three will make it but Blease has explosive pace as a major weapon, Tapscott has not bad pace but with a body to run through brick walls and Strauss ( I have been led to believe) has exquisite foot skills. For any of these to be rookied, I'd get it - but I just haven't seen Neville offer anything to hang his hat on. ( and yes he may have a fabulous desire and attitude)
-
I am easily seduced by glimpses of "something". Sylvia teased me as did the likes of Gysberts, Petterd and even Jamie Bennell . With Neville, I love his hardness at the ball but this is pretty much all I have seen. He lacks a yard of pace or evasiveness required by someone his size. Seen 5 years of Neville and I wouldn't be keeping him on any list.

I dont have a problem with supporters or critics of Don. I do have a problem with ugly vitriol ( and the same goes with the bile directed at CS and MN). Whether these guy have a handful of supporters of a plethora of critics I think it should be understood that no one comes into a job with us ( paid or unpaid) with the intention of inflicting damage on our club. Therefore critique away - state that CS or DM werent up to the job - no problem - but put away the abuse ( it probably says more about you than them anyway)

The days of me investing emotionally in one player are long gone. Love em all in a Dees jumper and know that every one of them could be of somewhere else next season -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BILLY STRETCH

And the grand final 88 - eww. But all is forgiven ! -
Just had a look back at Emma Quayle's mock draft from 2007. Many here consider her the guru and she has Morton going at no 4 but added he was on Richmond's radar at no 2 and we would be happy if he got through to us.

I have my suspicions about Bontempelli based mainly on the fact that I am having trouble pronouncing his name.

My Heart Beats True - 2014 Membership Campaign Launched
nutbean replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I also suspect a lot of these signed are MCC members who add MFC membership to their renewel. MCC renewel is September and I just add the MFC membership on. -
Plus we have pick 9 for another young midfielder. The big interest for me is pick 2 in the PSD - hoping for a midfielder of some substance not to renew his contract. For those with time - a list of good midfielders from other clubs who has yet to sign would be helpful !

So much star gazing. Take St Kilda for instance - by all reports they have traded really well - what will people say in 12 months time if McEvoy tears it up at Hawthorn and Del Santo at the Roos and the boys they have traded in deliver bagels ? I will give a report card in a minimum of 12 months time. Anything before that is pure guesswork.

I am cautiously optimistic that our midfield will be improved with the inclusions - Jones will keep doing what Jones does. I am hopeful of natural progression from Toumpas and Viney. I put Tyson in that category of natural progression with the comment that he has had injury concerns but was a highly rated mid that was taken with a very high draft pick .( so was Sylvia and Morton - eww) . Cross and Vince are better than any mids we had on the field last year ( save Jones). I have been massively underwhelmed by Trengove but saw enough in his first year that gives me hope that he will be more effective than the last two seasons. I haven't seen enough of Michie to pass judgement. Given my reverse pessimism I have to predict we cannot be as woeful through the midfield as last year
-
After reading your ratings I'd be keeping that future gun handy as you will be shooting yourself in your future foot.

This should be etched in concrete. And you dont move on until you have to. We proved with Roos that you keep asking the question until time is up and you need to make alternative arrangements. Therefore no never means no until the ship has absolutely sailed and circumstances dictate we have to move on. This hard lesson was learned when we were asking Ross Lyons manager if he was interested in a move and accepted a polite no whilst Fremantle adopted our current approach - no doesnt mean no and do everything in your power to make no, a yes..

I'm just not quite sure what the award would be.
