What you've said is probably closer to the mark of what I think Goodwin is trying to build. Rather than throwing a crate of money at one target, find quality that fills our needs and build over the years. Lewis and Hibberd have been very good pick ups in that regard, I think we need to try to bring in a quality defender if we can for next year and/or maybe some outside run with good skills. Aside from that I'd just like us to recruit a third in line back up ruckman.

Such a huge game for us. Firstly in the context of our season, a loss would set us back big time in any finals hopes. Secondly because North have had the wood over us fora long time, I don't care what the club says I'm sure it's in the minds of the players. Thirdly after such a fantastic win last week we need to prove it wasn't an aberration, that is now the standard. I expect north will come out with a fair amount of intensity, it's what got them the chocolates over Adelaide and I'm sure they'll want to test our metal. That said I honestly feel our midfield is one of the best in the comp this year and that's where it's won. Get on top in the midfield, deliver with purpose to our forwards and we'll win. God I really want this win!

His form definitely dipped last year but boy has he got his mojo in 2017! I feel like with someone like Jeffy it starts with being involved with pressure acts/tackling and that energy flows onto goals/score involvements. Hes got to be the biggest steal of a player we've got for a very long time.

Beamer opens up about Neeld relationship.
Pates replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Neelds poor interpersonal skills, and lack of ability to coach almost destroyed our club. But I agree that is the one legacy he left behind, he raised the standard of fitness, training, and professionalism at the club. Roos was able to rebuild better because of that very basic foundation. As for Beamer, I liked him but I felt like he didn't reach his full potential. As someone said earlier he appeared to be a bit of a downhill skier but his kicking was usually pretty good. For Neeld to come in and clean house the way he did, it obviously dented a lot of egos and while I get you need to mark your territory as a leader you also need to make sure you've got the right figures backing your play. As Brent said, he tried to implement a game plan based off another team. Not try to mould a game plan around the team he had. -
Have we entered a new era of Optimism ?????
Pates replied to pineapple dee's topic in Melbourne Demons
For me it's no different to the feeling I had at the start of the year. Cautious optimism. Only because we are still a young team and need things to click for everyone. That is slowly starting to happen for many of our players. Oliver, Hunt, Petracca, Salem, and Viney are really coming into their own as players and that's crucial for our future progression. But there are still plenty of boxes to tick on this journey, I keep thinking we might've turned a corner and then reality slaps me in the face. -
I feel the boys should be on the look out for future rough treatment on him. When a young bloke gets found to be such an important cog of a team it tends to put a target on his back. Be prepared to fly the flag for the young gun!

I know it's been said a lot that it has a very high survival rate but I thought I'd also share a family friend had it as well and not only survived but had children afterwards.

How will you be trying to watch it? On a computer or on a phone/tablet. You can buy an international pass but they aren't cheap, PM me if you'd like. I earmarked this game and the Saints games this year as being two very important teams in the context of our progress. Both teams have had the wood over us for a long time, we knocked the Saints one out and now it's onto the Roos (who I have always disliked for some reason). No team is an easy beat this year, and frankly our form at the G has been pretty average. I'd like to see us go in with no change, having a settled line up is fantastic and all the boys contributed to the win last week. Wagner would be the only one from what I saw that could be in line to be cut but I know the selection committee rate him. Hunt looks like he's going to get up for the game, which is great news. I'd like to see him moved around the ground in a midfield capacity, his dash is exhilarating to watch and opens up the ground. This week is so important to our season. We win and we're back on track, lose and we're back behind the eight ball.

I feel Jesse deserved a week for his as did Cotchin, not the completely opposite rulings that have happened.
-
What the actual f*#%! Hasn't this kid been through enough?! He's just lost his father to cancer, this is absolutely ridiculous. I honestly don't know what else to say than best wishes Jesse. Take the time to get through this, be with family as well. I'm shocked and just cannot believe this. Poor bloke.
-
Wait, what?! Where did you hear this?
-
I'm not fussed by it, he was in the area the umpires back into. It wasn't intended but it happened in his duties of keeping a blanket on Sloan. Worth it. I'm more a little grumpy the Cotchin is allowed to punch someone much the same way Jesse did and yet he gets a fine and Jesse gets two weeks. We got totally screwed with his.

It's Pavs first year doing special comments, I don't know why they throw these guys in there without giving them smaller roles to get them used to analysing the game first. He never struck me as a guy who could pull out great pearls of wisdom on the spot. Give him quarter time, half time, and 3 quarter time analysis bits where he can consider what he can say. It was embarrassing hearing his single word responses. And Ricciuto shouldn't do Adelaide games, it's a joke hearing him literally support the crows on TV.

Still very much a one week at a time deal. This season is such an even year, Brisbane appear to be only team that regularly being beaten but even they have shown something at times. No easy wins, everything is on the line every week. Geelong, Adelaide, and Richmond have all shown how quickly things can change. But there is no team we can't beat this year, let's tick North off that embarrassing records list!
-
My bad, Taylor definitely is the man in the recruiting team.
-
I'd imagine it's pretty similar commentary to what happened after we lost to Freo. Bloody dockers, MCG has never been a happy hunting ground for them and now they've pinched two close ones.
-
Poor bloke, Plapp's thoughts on the incident seemed to be that it wasn't a particularly hard knock. There's so much research being done in this field but is it a case of after certain knocks whatever protection exists inside the head starts to erode, thus making it more susceptible to concussions? Or is it the brain itself being damaged in a way that it can't full repair itself? Thinking about Selwood over his career I just find it incredible that a young bloke who's suffered two bad head knocks and been carefully managed throughout them become so exposed to concussion injuries. Damn I feel for the poor bloke.

It's easy to say but AFL has been his dream and now that he's here it's not as simple as saying, "bad luck but think about the rest of your life". This is his life right now. Poor Gus, I'm at a loss to think what we do next. Forgetting he's a high draft pick, he seems to be a magnet for head high contact. Can't imagine how his mum must feel.

North have been beating us for as far too long, it's definitely time for us to get back at them. No doubt in my mind we should be getting it done next week but these wins need to be backed up otherwise the culture change doesn't truly happen. But if we make finals, I think this will definitely be the one we look back on as season defining. 4-4 looks a lot better than 3-5, it's so important we get back to positive win loss ratio next week.

I agree to a point but Pedders didn't have match fitness, we persisted with Weids one too many weeks for mine. Will be interesting to see what happens when Spencer is back, Pedders is really working hard and I'd like to find us a spot for him. But if Weiderman starts to improve it will be difficult, Pedders is ahead in my book but the coaching staff appear to be more interested in getting games into Sam.

This kid keeps getting better, and I can't thank Todd Viney and co for picking him. He could be the best of our lot of young lad and given the talent in that group that is really saying something.
-
I think he has shown his best games when he's played as more of a deep CHF than a true FF. When he's a deep FF we seem to be one dimensional with our forward entries and try to pop it on his head. This appears to be a combination of us assuming he'll take the mark or compete, and that he doesn't seem to lead hard enough. I think when things click for him we will be a much better team with him but we seem to be too predictable with him as our key forward.
-
I never even considered it to be honest. But I'll say after we beat Adelaide I was glad I got the tip wrong!
-
Last few games his disposal has been a bit suspect, I was stoked to see him run with Sloan and put in a fantastic run with game for his 200th. Congrats Bernie!

This win reinforces exactly what frustrates us loyal fans. We know how good they can be, when they click we look like one of the most exciting teams in the comp! We should have another couple of wins, but we're 4-4 because we're so up and down! I love this club for better or worse but jeez they don't make it easy on us! Having said that it does make wins like this tastier!
