Jim Stynes now being dragged into Tanking Issue!
Slartibartfast replied to Demon Stalwart's topic in Melbourne Demons
Who would in the first instance do this and who would have the information. Whilst I know many will reject this Caro checks her sources and will only print if she believes she is right. For example, she had all the information on the Misfud story but rejected it when she checked it out and couldn't verify it.What always stumps me is why people think that when you believe someone should be replaced they'd go about implementing that to the detriment of the Club. That would be totally counter productive. So many misinterpret opinions of doubt. For all the opinions presented on this forum I don't think any would be offered by genuine MFC supporters with the intention of hurting the Club. -
Melbourne unveils new leadership group
Slartibartfast replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
People who are questioning the inclusion of players in the leadership group based on how the poster sees the players football ability miss the point. Leaders are leaders and not necessarily the best players. Harley and Maxwell are two classic examples of captains who were not in the teams best dozen players but won Premierships and are considered exceptional captains. McKenzie clearly offers much as he's won the Coaches award three years in a row under three different coaches. I would have been stunned if he hadn't been included. I was critical of the appointment of Trengove and Grimes as Captains at the time last year. Trengove particularly seemed to have struggled with the role and in a recent interview alluded to the impact the captaincy had on him. But having spent a year teaching him what to do the concept of now replacing him is ludicrous and would be an embarrassment to all concerned. He's clearly captaincy material but unfortunately he was pushed into the role 3 or 4 years too early. My fear is that it may have had a permanent impact on his football. Let's hope he not only returns to his 2011 form but significantly exceeds it. -

Yep, they were his actual stats. I think he did start as sub a bit. -

What I meant by "established" was that he wasn't in PA's team last year as an automatic selection. He played 10 games for an average of about 14 possessions a game. PA didn't want him and I'm not upset that we've got him but I don't find any comfort in the fact that he seems to be reported as a standout mid at training. Personally I'd like to hear that others were well in front of him. Some posts talking about how excited people are to see him just seem to me to be inviting disappointment. -
I agree with this but I have a great deal of sympathy for Jack. He was cursed by the "MFC messiah syndrome" early, played when he was still at school in the Queen's Birthday game and because of the Club's blatant manipulation of expectations surrounding him we have seriously, IMO, impacted on his career. I doubt I can think of a player who has had more press in his early years. I think I'm right in saying that even last year one of the first comments Neeld made was effectively a public comment on Watts and that he'd achieved nothing. FMD. I hope he proves to be a very good player, for a whole raft of reasons I love him to have the last laugh. Unlike BH I'm not sure he lacks courage I just think he's finding his way in AFL footy and he attracts far too much attention. And that is our fault. If he fails we'll have our fingerprints all over it.

I don't want to put a dampener on things about Rodan but this is a bloke who has failed to establish himself at two clubs and whilst he may be in our first picked midfield he wouldn't be in many in the AFL. Davey is in the last year of his contract and when that last occurred he won the best and fairest. If he's capable he'll have a good year. -
Yes, imagine how many posts you'd have if you were a member then! (I know Nash and Andy, I know B) )

Gutnick's proposed Board had representatives who posted as did Szondy's from memory and they were known to be standing It was quite a time and pretty robust. Other Board members have posted regularly in the past but this current Board doesn't to my knowledge and I'm not sure that Gardner's Board in the last years if its time. Interesting that with the developments in social media how our Boards has become more and more removed. I actually support it, Boards should be in Governance and it's the CEO's job to communicate which CS has done on occasions. I agree about the marginalizing of minorities. It's very hard not to respond with abuse when it's being thrown at you. Hazy has done remarkably well under the circumstances and whilst I've tried I admit to transgressing on occasions. If the worst people can throw at Hazy is that he's used arse and elbow in one sentence he's beaten them hands down.
-
I think the best real example I can think of was when Szondy challenged Gutnick in 2001. The overwhelming majority on Demonland and Demonology wanted the return of Joseph and the few that supported Szondy were marginalized in the same way minorities are marginalized today. If you'd read the forums in that era Joseph was a sure thing but the actual vote was a landslide for Szondy with not one person from the Gutnick ticket being elected. These forums border on the "non representative" IMO as they are frequented by the genuinely fanatical supporter. The average supporter is much less involved and takes a more dispassionate view of the MFC". Note: I'm not going to respond to any comparison of Gutnick v Szondy, those days are long gone. I've only mentioned it to show that forums are not a good place to judge supporter feeling.

At least he's not bias.

Look, to be honest, when you've got Robbie you don't need the gun.BTW, I hate Caro.

Nicho will play very defensive roles I reckon because his kicking is really a terrible liability. He'll play on the Bett's and Gartlett's of this world. He could probably also tag a midfielder but I don't know about his concentration. If Terlich, Jetta and Strauss come on I see Nicho, for all his excellent qualities, struggling. -
Right. So can you please point me to the discussion on the appointment of John Trotter to the Board. You really don't get it do you. Nobody want to overthrow the Board and if they did they wouldn't need to come here to gauge whether they should. Do you reckon Jimma spent hours reading Demonland before putting his Board together. Get real, you're a long way out here.
-
I think you're one percent out.
-
Yep, I can just imagine someone saying 'lets topple Don and oust Cam. But first lets ask the people on Demonland what they think". Robbie read this thread and tell me what you think sophisticated thinkers would think. If you think you're insights or mine would be of interest you're dreamin'.
-
Be careful. Your about to join the small group who is conspiring to overthrow the incumbent Board, replace the CEO, put the coach on notice and financially ruin the Club. Not only that but we are singlehandedly responsible for the leaks to the press of the contents of a report we don't have about events that didn't happen. Sadly nobody has been able to nail our motive yet but when they do I'm sure we'll hear about it. I enjoy myself here as well mostly. Don't forget that Demonland is read by many but only contributed to by a few.
-
I think you'll find in the main we are considered a rather ignorant group of footy tragics who speculate on things and offer little insight. But if you want to pump up your own tires do so. I No, I think it's a pretty stupid place to start. Just read this thread. They may read it but they wouldn't make any major decision based on what is written. Don't agree. Libba knew what was happening without a word being mentioned, it's why Carlton are safer than us. The Board need plausible deniability, you can't have that if they all know. The decision was obvious, everyone "knew" what was going on, but the assistants and the Board needed to say "no strategy around tanking was ever discussed or mentioned".
-
But our opinions count for nothing really. What are we going to do, stage a sit in and demand an election. You place far too much importance on a fan forum. Demonland is like Big Footy - it gives us a kick but the outside world see it as a joke and a pretty unpleasant one at that.
-
Not even that many. The Chairman, Schwab and Bailey must know and I suppose CC. Nobody else. If anything is in writing it's keystone cops stuff.
-
I can only assume from that, that like me, you don't know what it is or what they are trying to achieve. Why would Gerard Healy try to undermine Schwab by raising tanking when he could ring up his brother and have a chat. Doesn't make sense to me.
-
By the way, what IS the conspiracy and what are they trying to achieve?
-
Who is talking spills and opposing tickets?
-
Sue very simply if one had an intention of conspiring against the club the last think you'd do is mount an attack on it through Demonland. If that was indeed part of a strategy I wouldn't be very worried about the conspiracy.
-
No I'm not, I thought it was atrocious and self serving. But a comment by a former Chairman some 4 years after he's left the club is not representative of his Board.
