WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JACK VINEY

So, no published footage of the actual incident then?? -
......Couch???

Striker - I too have been a big critic mainly due to apparent lack of commitment, but it does appear that he may be turning the corner. I would say that the jury is still out, but that is a positive as I suspect it was very close to coming back into the courtroom with a guilty verdict. IF he does continue as he has the past couple of weeks it is a credit to him of course, but also to Neeld. He presumably laid down the ;aw and given him KPIs that he has followed. Well done.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JACK VINEY

Good post. "David King stated recently that he "liked hurting people" and he nominated him to be in the best 10 players in the league in 5 years" -- Could he become mentor to our previous Jack number 1 pick ?? -

It will depend a bit if it is mandible (lower jaw) or facial bones (upper jaw)? Any details anyone? From MN's presser it sounds as if there may have been things seen that aren't exactly Kosher. (Didn't see the footage myself). It is a pity his start has been interrupted but given that he isn't going to be playing for MFC this year I am more concerned about the further interruption to Gys' development. -
Except that as far as I know, it is Tommy Mc and Joel Mac Back to topic - I didn't see either game but from accounts young Fitz is playing well and Sellar isn't, with fewer strings in his bow even at best. Surely a one for one here would be logical. Neeld has shown - this week JW not fulfilling his appointed task v Saints - that he has zero tolerance for non compliance, so should Sylvia and / or Moloney be starting to sweat? And I doubt if Magner would be "rested" other than perhaps be made the sub for late impact - it would be harsh on one who has shown the way in his first few games to man more experienced colleagues. And MN seemed pretty happy with his role in the presser if I heard right. (Pity Telstra or BigPond or whoever cant be bothered doing anything at all about the audio quality of the questioner)!

Thanks DemonDave. " Blease - great last half where his running to space and with the ball in his hand was a feature. Took a half to get into it though, hardly noticed him in first half. One more above average game next week and he'll get a callup I suspect, we sorely his need line breaking leg speed in the seniors. " Breaking and leg doesn't resonate too well for this man ? :-)

gidon - I think you will be looking at at least one more hard pre-season under Missen before they reach anything like the endurance level needed to match it with the big boys over what Barassi refers to as not the 100 minutes but the 6000 seconds,, ie the whole match. Poor fitness in the modern game leads to lapses in concentration and inability to chase, pressure and make options.

BUMP: Does anyone have an update on the "suspected" broken jaws on Viney and Gys??
-
It appears that Fitzy had another good one.....maybe his time again?
-
I guess it just shows that it takes more than one pre-season, even with the best fitness staff!!!!
-
So how is Morton going?
-
Two broken jaws in one game!! Now how bad fan luck get - and especially for poor Gys who just racks up the injuries. Did anyone see both incidents?
-
I have only seen brief glimpses. Two bloody ordinary frees for gift goals to the home side - Bartel v Jordie and far wise the Pods one on the siren, when the commentariat thought Clark delved the free. Morale sapping.

Even though today they have been instructed, as per Fawlty Towers "Don't mention the war" , today's game and the attitude shown by the players, and I would single out BM for obvious reasons, will go a long way to showing whether there has been much or enough change at the club.
-
As far as I know the club doctor does not routinely examine each player before every game - it does come down to personal responsibility from the player, not only to himself but also to the team, to report illness or injury. It seems that it was BM, not the club doctor (unless he was asked his opinion) who failed BM, and the team, and the club!

I agree he will never be like Cloke but could well 'do a Hawkins' hopefully well before the 2014 GF. And I don't see, as you appear to imply, that Cloke and Hawkins are of similar build.

It's not only the mid field that lacks pace
monoccular replied to Harrisonrules's topic in Melbourne Demons
Points taken Sure you have to be able, and willing by the way, to give chase and run for the loose ball. But quickness of mind - decision making, summing up the situation and options - is vital especially coming out of defence. And I am sure a big improvement in general fitness and endurance levels makes it all the easier to keep your cool. If you are physically buggered when you eventually get the ball the thought processes aren't going to be flash. -
I wouldn't exercise it - exercise makes things stronger. Exorcism would be good though. ;-)

Do you think maybe Colin will reach his "potential" sometime in the next 4 or 5 years? He remains one of my two most frustrating players on the current list.

Apparently may be getting the message and the confidence to do just this, if KC's most recent report is anything to go by -

And I agree - how "slow" was Greg Williams, yet how quick was he in decision making and precision delivery especially by hand? -

May I pose a serious question for anyone who reallly understands (as opposed to just thinks they have an opinion they would like to share) sports development etc: How much can another preseason under Missen be expected to improve our overall leg speed as opposed to endurance? Can top grade conditioning turn a plodder into a racehorse, to any extent? -
Barassi again: ".....what makes a champion? .....consistency of performance is the factor that separates true champions from 'merely' elite players.". and "...big difference between bearing the talent and skills to be a 'star' and having the consistency requires to be a 'champion'. You need those consistent champion players to make a champion team." Jack - please, please show us all here, doubters and supporters alike that you are to be a champion and not just a potential star. Nothing less will make all here happy. You have the talent and the skills, I think most would agree.....you need consistency and you need it soon. We need some champions in our team - will you be one of them? Do you really want to be?
