  1. This paragraph surely sums it all up, for MFC and for all other clubs who find themselves destined to miss finals. Frankly and clearly stated. Add to that our injury list at that time - probably 10 or so of our best 22, maybe more, were MIA. They would all be derelict and irresponsible NOT to experiment, blood youngsters, try new positions regardless of the peculiarities of the draft system that the AFL themselves have set up. If they want a different system, with different incentives, then set it up and don't make retrospective decisions and judgements. Perhaps having the draft picks in reverse order for say teams 15-18 and then teams 9-14 would give those missing out incentive to still achieve in the "junk time" of a season. "Were we focused on getting game experience into young players? Yes we were. Were we trying to develop our players by experimenting with different positions? Yes we were. Did we select young players sometimes ahead of experienced players to see what they were made of? Yes we did. Like many other sides, we are doing exactly the same thing today. We are managing our list in context to where we are in the competition."
  2. Maybe they would trade our Bennell for theirs, and we could throw in Morton too.Sounds a very fair trade....to me.
  3. or maybe wanting to see if he has any qualities at all?Couldn't get to the game - what and when was his injury?
  4. What is this crap - just started watching in fourth quarter - bloody awful.
  5. Thanks - precis ??
  6. Interesting thought - especially considering his near death experience only a couple of months ago.One would have to think that if Cook cant get a call up now, with the dearth of tall forwards and the overall lack of numbers at this "junk time" of the season then maybe MN has already decided that he wont make it.
  7. ....unless they are still tanking.
  8. Surely all longstanding Demon fans would just unthinkingly reply....we are a toughened lot and thrive on adversity and gloom.
  9. I did seriously raise this question a week or so ago. I had thought that the AFL would have a contingency plan but on reflection they would probably just make up rules as they went along, as per usual, and depending upon which teams were involved.
  10. Absolutely no backup ruckman. Tall marking forward???? Surely Fitzy should have got a run on both counts?
  11. There are many naive folk here -- clearly the AFL have already decided we are guilty as charged (by the Tankers recruit McLean) and we will be stripped of most of our picks, and possibly Viney too.
  12. Sorry, but you are being naive. The set up was from the start by Dimitriou and Anderson. I have said it before and will say it again - they are [censored] scared that our club wil get draft picks that they had assumed would go to their own developing, experimenting darlings, GW$ and GC$, and throw in a potential star as a F&S. When they, after a "thorough and impartial investigation" strip us of pucks, and make us offer our first remaining pick, maybe in the 50s or so for young Jack, they know we will be cellar dwellers for another generation.
  13. Issue a fatwa against the fat one.
  14. Good luck Clint. It will be important to know when the likely outcome will be apparent. If for instance the club don't know if it is a success or failure by October, what do they do about a contract? I don't want to sound callous, but the real world of AFL is cutthroat and leaves no room for sentimentality. I suspect that if it is looking unlikely that a good result will be achieved he may 'retire'.
  15. ????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. The AFL had better start looking at F/S rules involving twins. Could we get 2 for 1 bid?
  17. FCS, this is utter BS! WMany seem to conveniently forget that we were ahead at the final siren and McMahon kicked the goal from 50. IF we were so desperate to lose someone would surely have "done a Jimmy" and run across the mark for a 50m penalty. Now THAT could be construed as tanking.
  18. Neither would or should be at all welcome at the club now, or in the future. Throw Gardiner in there too.
  19. Bartram will be an interesting one - surely his future will have to depend on the medical report on his knee, which is reputed to be "bone on bone" so have no future.
  20. ...and can also fill in very adequately as a KPP defender and adequately as a KPP forward. Maybe could even fill in on a wing as a link player.
  21. Agree 100 oercent, and say it whenever i can. Surely us leading at the siren, and Ninthmond requiring a very good kick from 50 metres after the siren must soundly refute any argument that we were tanking and not just bad.PSL: There are about a hundred different threads based on tanking allegations - can moderator in some way amalgamate them. It is getting very confusing remembering which thread is which.
  22. ....and had their best players on the bench in a tight finish. Tanking or incompetence?
  23. He is probably a very good man for the job, but no one can deny that this year there is a huge (potential at least) conflict of interest here.He could stand accused of being too hard on Jack, or too easy on him depending on where he is selected. I trust he wont but there will inevitably be questions asked.
