I also wondered about that connection.

What would restore your confidence?
monoccular replied to Norm Smith's Curse's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yes gentlemen (and ladies) - a bloody flag is surely what we should all be looking for.Set the bar high!! 1953 - second last: 1954 - runners up: 1955,6,7,9,60 flags!!!!! -
Ricky Petterd - a few brief flashes in the pan, a few years ago. Disappointing that, for whatever reason, he wasn't able and / or willing to put in the requisite effort to build on those flashes.

What would restore your confidence? A flag! -
...but do any hard working dedicated players want out? That would be a concern, but if those who find Neeld just too hard and demanding want to leave then please do so.

He may well be a club champion but under another regime - IF the reason he has had such a poor season is that he doesn't like the demands of the new order then....bad luck...he should go. One isn't a champion if one only plays under one's own conditions - a true champion does what is asked of him, whatever he feels about the orders!

Recruit the best and bloody well develop them
monoccular replied to Soidee's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think the media are preying on us, whilst others can pray for us. Otherwise I agree with your sentiments. The only way from this abyss I believe must be upwards, though I am sure a few here will say I am being far too optimistic, as I always tend to be after the season. -
So, Billy, should we just sack him now and see if some idiot would put his trust in us for a....well, maybe we should offer a six month contract to someone and would we think that they would be really quality people???I see just so many positives in the article, but others only see negatives. I guess we will have to agree to differ.

Tom Couch - runner up in JJ Liston Trophy
monoccular replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
Well done - hope you can make the next very big step. I think we have had others - Shane Valenti and Paul Johnson spring to mind - who have done this too but failed to make the next big step. Prove us wrong. -
There is an old fashioned expression - "cutting off the nose to spite the face" which may be relevent here.He has certainly shown no appreciation or gratitude for what the club has done for him, but I think that after a good night's sleep and one or two reality pills you may have second thoughts.

Mono - great minds think alike.

....and now it is Jumping Jeremy. Time to move on.

So you are suggesting sacking unceremoniously one of his protégées, mid contract, then expecting him to regard us as reliable or honourable enough for him to risk his reputation by coming running to us.It will be hard enough for him to trust CarlTank after what they have done with one of their "favoured sons", but who in the hell wold want to come to us were we wo sack Neeld after 9 months attempting to totally overturn a sick lazy culture. Anyone coming after that would be stark raving mad. PS: By the way, is this a Jurrah or a Neeld/Malthouse thread.

I guess, on the positive side, if MFC survives this year surely it can survive anything!Adversity generates strength, provided you survive it.

...no....you may risk being accused of racism. That is why I was very moderate in my earlier remarks, or at least moderated what I was going to say.

I sure hope you are right but surely your assessments are a bit premature. After all he has only just returned to the land of the living, which is a fantastic effort in itself. Looking forward to the preseason already. -- Tynan (?x2?), Williams, Sheahan, and I haven't given up on Magner. Fitzy, Gawnius Maximus, Taggert, Evans. Once again filled with blind crazy optimism.

Thanks for erasing the ingrate so quickly today. And as you say, Moloney is still listed!
-
I certainly don't think that Liam, and Wona, have done much to "progress the cause" for indigenous players by their antics this year. One would think the club may be a bit wary about commitment.
-
I sincerely hope not.Howe has so much more to his game than Robbo ever did. Let him be himself. If they want him to honor a gret number howe about 31, to erase the memory of the $cumbag who wore it last. And after all, Liam was only ever half the player wearing 24 that he was wearing 48!
-
If he is still contracted to us, then Port or the Crows would have to get him from us one how, presumably with a trade if they think he is worth the risk.He cannot surely just turn up and play AFL with them.............maybe he will play SANFL. One would have to say, if in fact he wants to play for Port or Crows, not a great deal of gratitude for all that we have put into him both on and off the field.

Need a fair few more of those before we even contemplate dropping young Jordie
-
But in this case surely actually losing would be in their interests.
-
isn't that exactly, when there are a few A grade mids, when a run with player comes to the fore? When he isn't expected to be both a clearance ball winner, and a tag and an outsider all at once.

Point is, as I have said in the Bailey thread, these guys are highly paid full time professionals, but some are not behaving that way. They should drive emselves and if they dont then they need to make way for some who will. I must say I find this in some ways incredible, but certainly it would explain the train wreck of the Bailey years. And Brad, if you saw this, ESPECIALLY WHILST YOU WERE CAPTAIN, and did nothing to rectify it, YOU ARE DOUBLY CUPLABLE!

Not just unaccountable football it seems, but totally and absolutely unaccountable anything!!!This, if true, paradoxically gives me a lot of optimism under Neeld, once he finishes weeding out the bludgers
