LOL Interesting thought: but did the other clubs go through this years ago when they were getting so far ahead of us in fitness terms?
-
Ah -- if only we had a midfield who could deliver he ball to them, aided and abetted by a ruckman who could manufacture clearances, not just rack up huge numbers of hit outs..
-
Possibly if it were at the G - but if we played Nan Nar Goon thirds at Docklands we would struggle. It is all in the psyche.

I was reluctant to open this thread - I thought it would probably be from one of our "supporters" bemoaning the "fact" that we got the wrong guy, "again". I will repeat, it is not possible to compare Wines playing in (what started the season as ) a strong team with a strong midfield, with Toumpass playing in a very very poor team with only one quality mid. Totally unfair and unreasonable to even try to compare the output of performances of the two, at this point. But yes, it would be great if we could somehow lure him to MFC - of course winning a few games and playing with a bit of passion would be encouraging.

Sounds like Jack Watts is headed to the backline.. Again
monoccular replied to a topic in Melbourne Demons
All of the above but he needs to be accountable (does Neeld know that word?) and not just a drifter in space. IMVHO attacking winger is where I would like to see him, or HFF. He hasn't, at least to date, been accountable enough to have on the back line. -
FCS let Dawes coach for the rest of the year* - at least he know what is acceptable and what is not. I cannot tolerate acceptance of garbage any more. Sure the loss was less than many may have expected....but, wasn't it a loss? *only kidding, but I tend to laugh when depressed. :-)))((()))(((

Looks as if he has more clues, and is certainly more inspiring ALREADY than our current senior coach!

Point Kick ins and defence of kick ins
monoccular replied to Jumping Jack Clennett's topic in Melbourne Demons
Even back when we were doing OK early this millennium our kick ins were always a worry. I think it comes down to discipline - well drilled TEAMS have always done this better than us -
I think he needs a spell of maybe 4 or even 6 games, however well he goes, at Casey to work on his skills and confidence. He is far too hard a worker and too determined a guy to allow to wither away.

I have always loved, and still do, Jordie's courage and his great work ethic - if all the rest put in like he does we would be doing a lot better - but I despair that he will not make the grade when (?if) we get our act together and move forward. I am not sure if he can be taught peripheral awareness or disposal skills at his age? Are there precedents? Certainly Toddy learned to kick late in his career....maybe he should take Jordie aside and give him some tips (no doubt he has already).

5 Years Says Neeld - Who is going to cop that?
monoccular replied to Mongrel Dee's topic in Melbourne Demons
Wow....what a super impressive guy we have gained in Chris Dawes. It sounds as if he could do a better job at his young age in inspiring our team that the head coach. He will certainly help in filling our absolute on field leadership void. Really looking forward to seeing him an Mitch on the field together. One (of many) thing that concerns me from what Neeld said in the presser was that it looks as if he still thinks Jack Watts is a defender, not a forward. I beg to differ. -
Point Kick ins and defence of kick ins
monoccular replied to Jumping Jack Clennett's topic in Melbourne Demons
Good point re ability to coach. A kick in is really one of the few regular opportunities for a tactical coach to implement a true set play. Trouble is our last three coaches - can't remember if Balme was any better - just could not / would not develop and / or drill any kick in tactics at all. I didn't see today's game but let me guess - from the Richmond end we kicked it towards Jamar near the 50 on the Members' side? Hopefully when our potential coach is interviewed, and after today's earlier suicide note by Neeld (the one in which he said we will have to wait 5 years) it will probably be sooner rather than later, interviewed I must add by a panel that just must not include Gary Lyon, he has to be asked if he has a kick in strategy, and be asked to detail it and show that it has worked for him and his previous team, that team being in a much higher competition than Ocean Grove. -
[censored]....that is the last thing we need. Sometimes it can look just like a "twist" or "sprain" and it turns out to be a break. There have been some ridiculous statements made in this thread about this injury - how about we all take a deep breath and await an expert opinion.
-
.....you mean in his entire (2011 pre injury) 4 game career???? Pretty picky and petty, IMO.
-
You are understating : soft players don't get clubs near finals, let alone losing them (unless maybe the AFL, in AD's infinite wisdom, go ahead with their inane thought bubble of having ten teams in finals - then a few softies may get through).

5 Years Says Neeld - Who is going to cop that?
monoccular replied to Mongrel Dee's topic in Melbourne Demons
Seriously, if he actually said that it is surely a suicide note, or at best an early resignation speech. He cannot want to retain his job if he comes out with that, now. Do alpacas actually have horn? Maybe you should first transpose some unused (haven't been see in action for half a decade or more) Demon horns onto him first. And let me know where and when this event is to take place: I may come and watch, or even let him at me after he has finished with you. -
Yeah....and they will be just jumping at the opportunity to take us on, especially if we sack a third coach mid stream. According to today's thread bearing his name, according to at least some "Melbourne supporters" it was trivia and he is an overacting wimp. On the other hand I would suggest we await expert opinion! Hopefully not Frawley.

Well, I guess it gives the doomsayers the opportunity to say that, even at this early stage, we should definitely have picked Wines, so at least some here will be happy. Like Watts vs Natunui By the way, how do they feel Wines and NicNat would be going in a team totally devoid of leaders or direction?

monoccular replied to Mongrel Dee's topic in Melbourne Demons
The guy said 2-3 years when he started - that is 1-2 max from now. A "reasonable expectation" when he arrived was that we would be playing OK (hate the word but "competitive") 2013 ie now, and really well by 2014. I have been extremely patient and supportive but enough is enough. MOVE ON MARK. You have lost everyone. -
Does anyone know what is the half-life of peptides?
-
I have said it before and will repeat it. Good teams have gutsy and inspirational LEADERS...........we have none on or off field. We will get nowhere until we do, regardless of any game plan be it corridor or boundary focused, man on man or zone. We need leaders.
-
You ate being too specific regarding their HGA - EVERYONE beats us at Badlands and has for what the last 8 or 10 years. Even when we were doing ok around 2005-6.

They are just bloody good, AND HAVE A LOT OF ON FIELD LEADERS. If one is a bit down (rare enough) others stand up.

....and didn't Michael Tuck play about 1000 Reserves games before his 1000 senior ones?
