  1. Locking in the top 6 after 17 rounds is just wrong, as is locking in bottom 6. In a very even season 13th at round 17 could still make finals, and a top 4 team could still miss out. It destroys incentive. Fairer (not a priority of AFL), and easier to organize a full year fixture for TV and corporate prebooking (AFL top priority) , would be to play everyone in the first 17, then group in three of six based on the previous year final ladder. Sure there would be anomalies like Freo's tanking this year, but overall it could boost the middle 6's chances, and keep the top 6 on their toes, maybe also discouraging the 'resting' of players in the final rounds by the top teams.
  2. even more so with only a few of those to be served in season. Imagine had the player in question been from one of the 'feeder clubs', and not from the love child club!
  3. Thanks everyone - I am interstate and can't get there often but this all helps bout the annual optimism, but it is really different this year.
  4. Almost makes them look like paragons of virtue. The AFL just don't see it, do they? Like the political establishments in the US, UK and here - they all have their arrogant heads up somewhere unpalatable and they don't think that the public care. Then they will whinge like hell when the dam eventually bursts, as it will: like a certain ex-coach - "didn't see it coming".
  5. So soon after his latest album, You Want it Darker, at the launch of which he said he intended to live forever. Maybe he actually knew more that he was letting on. Will be sadly missed.
  6. Gil the Gutless will be really pleased - saves him from making a decision. He will of course feign sympathy for poor Jab.
  7. What it will mean is that this will again be delayed, pending ASADA then maybe WADA and Geneva to allow GW$ to safely secure their draft picks, Whitfield to play in next year's finals etc etc. Classic AFL obfuscation.
  8. 1. They hope, like a naughty child, that if they hide it will just go away 2. They do not want to feel pressured towards making a "tough call" re the draft that could harm their love child, GW$.
  9. One of the traits of psychopaths is an inability to learn from past mistakes.
  10. Yes. When I said watches, I really meant those gizmos but my concern re finger injuries when and if they wear them in contact sessions stands.
  11. Just an observation: many seem to be wearing watches. Do / should they remove them when doing any sort of tackling drills at all? Could do a serious finger injury to the tackler.
  12. More to the point was his run up fluent or stutttterred? And we need Carey (or some other great kick) to help Jesse etc it right.
  13. The game, and the team, has moved on a fair way since H played senior footy regularly. It is up to him to show if he is still up to it - can't expect any favours. IF he pushes himself with strong performances then yes he may have something to offer, but IMVHO he will be depth for 2017.
  14. OMG - what year was he at EssUndone? Does it bring new meaning into the term "injecting new talent"?
  15. No. They are the only guys who will be left when our late picks come up.
  16. Obfuscating, like small children who have wronged, they just hope it will go away if they ignore it. Absolutely pathetic to get Jab to present a case, pathetic. Trying to shift the decision making.....FCS that is what they are paid, handsomely, to do. Make decisions in the interest of the game. Gil makes TurnBull look decisive, and that is damning with very feint praise.
  17. Didn't mention Col Sylvia - getting ready for his first full preseason. ....and don't let anyone carrying a needle anywhere near you.
  18. Exactly. 405 have posted and many more have read. If you don't like it, ignore it.
  19. Ah. The Tarax Club.......back when the Dees were feared and envied.
  20. Eye like that.
  21. .... and for Roos it seems.
  22. It would appear at first sight to be a marketing tool for the AFL to be able to promote big games (ie the top 6) in the lead up to finals. Nothing to do with equalization or fairness, but then when did the AFL really ever give a stuff about those alien concepts.
  23. Do you know this or are you reminiscing to the bad old days? Modern coaching involves a lot of "people management" not just tactics and motivation. Whilst I suspect that someone like Neeld would do this, do you know that eg say Goodwin or Beveridge would regularly single out players in front of the group? Big call.
  24. I would agree that any player who has had 12 months out of the game will either be (i) bursting with energy and enthusiasm or (ii) jaded and be slow to get out of the blocks. To name such as a lock in best 22 seems premature. How about at least having a look at training and preseason (can't remember with all the annual changes, is it still Ansett Cup??) form. Still I guess it is all a bit of fun at this stage. Could even speculate on the hidden gem we pick up at pick 57 or whatever debuting and getting BOG and rising star.
  25. The guy obviously had very serious mental health issues before he joined the Toiges but it sounds as if he received little help from the club. Hope he gets some very soon And asking anyone to sign a 'keep your mouth shut'clause is nothing short of bizzare.
