Wouldn't have contributed much less to our team's progress

Science must be fluid, and every scientist should be a sceptic looking for proof or confirmation that what is accepted as fact is in fact true. That is why I find the prejorative use of the term sceptic for climate change deniers inappropriate. Everyone should be a sceptic, which does not mean they doubt all accepted 'facts', just that they test them.

Interesting thoughts - but do you KNOW that he doesn't want to share ruck duties? Could see it as an opportunity to diversify.

By the looks of things at the moment, Lever could well be a premiership defender, which would both increase his $ value, and perhaps make him want to stay put.

Titus O'Reily receives clarification regarding the D O O B rule
monoccular replied to beelzebub's topic in Melbourne Demons
Whilst I appreciate and agree with your assessment of Gil's lack of connectivity with the spirit of the game and of reality in general - maybe other than on the polo field, about which I have no expertise - the "last touch rule" will only encourage inferior players just watching the ball go out after an opponent has kicked it, without making any endeavour to collect it themselves, which is just plain ugly, as shown by Goddard on Sunday. -
Geez we need to get Rocky onto our coaching panel really quickly: obviously sees and knew far more that two senior AFL coaches.
-
He has only shaved once, I believe. Selling it for the Reach Foundation according to Titus
-
Certainly agree - IF he has the brain power / application to pull out his best on a consistent basis he should be a lock in best 22. Over to you, Dean.
-
??? You mean the Smith who is out for the next 4 weeks or the one who is out for about 10 weeks?????
-
So the Dees wil be in pink and blue. Hope the moron in charge of umpire attire doesn't repeat the idiotic call and put them in pink too, as they did all those years ago when it cost us a rare Friday night game vs Dogs. Wouldn't be surprised actually if they did.

Geez Jab looked pretty ordinary - not on the 'good stuff' like his Downlow year?
-
I certainly have him in my best 22, when he is fit and well; just not there at the moment, IMO Not disputing your points, but the coach has publicly said otherwise.

Titus O'Reily receives clarification regarding the D O O B rule

I think it is a "last touch" rule - was tried once if I recall correctly, in the Ansett / Wizzard / whatever Cup. Personaly it is a rule I don't like. -
Titus O'Reily receives clarification regarding the D O O B rule
monoccular replied to beelzebub's topic in Melbourne Demons
Agree. One time I think in the 3rd quarter, there was a Melbourne player kicked it in the general direction of the boundary and instead of picking it up as he could, that ^*%#+ Goddard shepherded it out, then looked longingly at the umpire. If the rule is that a player must make every effort to keep it in, then maybe that sort of action should result in a free against the shepherder. -

I read it this morning - yet another absolute gem from Titus. -
The Cam Pedersen Appreciation Thread
monoccular replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Harsh on Weid to suggest or imply* that HE cost us games - he was selected by the selectors, and did his best, and was injured throughout most of his last game. Yes I agree that were Pedo there in his place we could probably have won two, or even three, but to put the 'blame' on Weid is IMO unfair. And, like mauriesy, I hope he bangs down the door and does earn his position pressuring who knows at the time. * EDIT re reading your post I think you and I agree it was selection that may have cost us those games. But, isn't hindsight wonderful. -
I haven't really looked closely - is the Downlow* Brownlow silver? Thought it was goldish * reverted to original name when Jab returned his. Gawd he looked ordinary off the stuff.

Will depend mainly on $$$, contract and playing opportunities. Who knows, may not like his bro?
-
Are you speculating that in time he could maybe become quite a handy player? ? Very perceptive. ?

It wasn't my call; just quoting the coach

Since IDCAD about Essendon, remind us of Lloyd's 1996? How many goals, how many games, had he mastered the dive yet? Interesting thoughts. If I remember correctly he was recruited as a forward, though has played mainly back -- very notable exception the surprise win over EssenDrug at Docklands ?2007? Firstly he has to recover enough to play at all; then the coaching challenge of turning him into a forward. At 191 cm surely not nearly big enough to be a forward / ruck relief though, which is what we need (though Pedo showed he can at the weekend; can he produce consistently enough?)
-
Didn't realize that. Still, he should have washed that stain out of himself by now.
-
For a welcome change, Goody and the team made changes and adapted to the changing flow (well, maybe flow is an inappropriate word for the horrendous first half) of the situation. Well done.
-
What is his injury history? Recurring soft tissue, or impacts? I don't know enough about him - does he offer as much as Sunday's version of Pedo?

The Petracca v McCartin debate reprised
monoccular replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Whilst this is a Petracca thread, I must agree with you on Weid - comparing him with Cook is ludicrous. The 19yo played a good debut, and agreed hasn't had a real impact since, but give a year or so with the occasional senior game I strongly think we will see a very good player, though maybe not a superstar. His last game was played with a significant leg injury almost from the start, so judging him on that performance is harsh.
