  1. This. Morton's defensive non-effort in the goal square a shocker. OTOH Blease is, as has been said, a jet.
  2. This. Bailey was struggling, and I've heard all the pro's and con's. But to go from Schwab out / Bailey extended to Bailey out / Schwab extended makes no sense to me either... If this is corporate spin winning over hard decisions then we're stuffed. I think it could be seen as easy to sack the coach and keep the CEO - sacking the coach < 24 hours after a bad defeat is weak. Can't tell you how disappointed I am in our club, but I'll be there watching us play BRUISING footy on the w/end
  3. This. If it's true that the footy dept budget is suffering because of admin / management excesses, then "off with his (CS) head".
  4. Moloney said to be too sick to play - Melbourne Storm crook too... But, as one of the commentators on the ABC said "I bet the Storm won't serve up something like that..."
  5. Why would Scully stay? How well could Sylvia play at a serious football club?
  6. from melbournefc.com.au " The only major alarm for the Demons is a knee injury to Tom Scully. Scully was substituted out of the game but it is unclear how serious the injury is. " I thought it was his back???
  7. The nearest I can get to Flower is that Cale Morton isn't ...
  8. So come up to the lab and see what's on the slab. I see you shiver with antici... pation.
  9. Yep. And have a look at the replay - Sylvia is there and I suspect he called Scully off.
  10. His work in the forward pocket to draw two defenders and then give off the handball to Petterd was just a joy. Don't know anything about basketball (and sick of "basketball background" as the explanation for talent), but this looked like a fake to the basket, draw the defence and give off. Good to see the long hair, too
  11. Yep. I can remember big name "saviours" coming in from outside - going back to Diamond Jim Tilbrook, Big Carl, Peter Moore, Templeton. None gave us the results that Swooper gave us. I think there <is> something to this "Culture" thread that's been going on here...
  12. Time has been out by one hour for ages (one hour ahead)... maybe since daylight saving stopped (hint) - TZ on local machine is fine
  13. Having the SculGove back tonight meant that Gys could run a little bit outside at some times. Noticed he's a brilliant kick on the run - 2 laser passes into the forward line. Yep, missed the goal, but showed what can happen when we get our best on-ballers together.
  14. Favourite Watts moment: running through the pack, slapping the mid-air ball onto the ground so it bounces up, and he's off! Serious skills... and I'm VERY happy to have the ball in his hands.
  15. yep. but thought it was an ankle... thanks
  16. I reckon we'll miss Warnock. Fond memories of him taking Fev out last year - I think he has that bit of physicality and mongrel, and needs ice in the bath at the end of the game. Very excited about the "ins" - just hope the children don't get blown away...
  17. very interesting... I agree with many of your observations. "Back in the day" the MFC was the MCC's footy team, and had the best resources and the best facilities. Trained at the G 2 nights / week, tons of dough (for the time), and the other teams were jealous of our facilities. I was told that Carlton (= Kenneth Luke -> George Harris) never got over the MCG getting the Olympics over Princes Park, and that when he was President of the VFL (56 - 71), he never missed an opportunity to get stuck into the Dees. Eventually, the old money lost out to the new money, and the balance of power shifted from the Members at the 'G to who-ever had the $$. Barassi moving was s sign of the times. A really complex club, with a complex history - and I give Stynes / Schwab full marks for working on getting the MFC/MCC linkage right (or as right as it can get).
  18. That's why arrays should be zero-indexed...
  19. OK - I'm interested in what you mean - I can remember Barassi going, had a pretty close connection to the club at that time. I remember Norm Smith going. You're saying the "Old Breed"( = Jim Cardwell et al.) were winners, and then softness set in? Have I got that right? Who were/are these "backslappers" that are ok with failure, and who are these politically correct softies in the Northern stand? Really, I'm not having a go - I have puzzled over our club for a long while, and have always thought that the Dess supporters was a bit split b/n the MFC and MCC members... but I'm not sure I am clear about where you think the problem is. I am as sick of it as anyone. Go Dees!
  20. Not sure if the you mean the MFC members in the Northern Stand or the MCC Members. If you mean the MCC members, well: 1. Any that support the Dees and aren't member of the MFC should be ashamed --- worse than weak. Won't put the $ where their heart is; 2. I confess to sitting in "The Members" (I'm a paid up MFC member); 3. The blokes I sit with are NOT HAPPY - the image of The Members quietly intoning "well done, number 4" (thinking it's John Lord) is crap; 4. I agree that we are "divided" geographically at the MCC, and, on reflection, I will sit with the MFC crew, and I should have been sitting there for many years (many many). 5. And we just might start a movement - The "Get Out Of The Members, Pay Your fskcing MFC Dues, And Sit/Stand/Yell Where You Should" movement.
  21. And I keep thinking of Trengove in the last quarter against Adelaide - goes hard at the ball going into the forward line, gets it, then takes the extra step before dishing off the handball for an easy goal. Gets crunched, and lying on the ground. NO ONE goes to him to pick him up and pat him on the back - pathetic. This NOTHING to do with injuries or youth (him being young, and all). It's a poison and I'm sick of it. I was there in '64, enjoyed the Northey era, but now feel ashamed. I don't have any answers all I can do it let off steam. My deep worry is that despite the debt reduction and the perception of off field improvement we've all been conned by the managerialists - lots of smooth talk and not enough head over the ball.
  22. From Footy Confidential: 2 Carlton players interviewed after the game (recording shown) - both said that Melbourne want to play "outside, bruise free footy"... clear that phrase was the theme for Carlton going into the game. What a disgrace. Connolly puts out some statement that they (MFC) are disappointed with the disrespect that Carlton showed MFC. Both Lyon and Thompson quite rightly said that they (MFC) should be disappointed that that's how others see the MFC. Truth. We're perceived as WEAK - and we might just be. How the hell do we to get to these situations???
