  1. This from a MFC supporter - "just a laugh" I suppose??? A low point for demonland, this...
  2. MCC Member / MFC Trident member But there is a point here - Hawthorn are the suburb and the Glenferrie Oval (I know they're at Waverly) Carlton and paper bags full of money and Lygon St Collingwood are, ... well... hard to describe; but, as said above, large proportion of MCC is Collingwood Essendon - god help us Who <are> we? Are we the Football Club of the MCC (haven't been for 40 years); are we a blue collar club - nope, are we Collins St - nope? I think this is a bit to do with those who cry "culture" - not sure how to identify it, but I agree with them!! Go Dees - off the pack the Patterson's party pies and sausage rolls, catch the train in and YELL! (well, Patterson's are out of business - tragedy ) Edit: spelling
  3. Interesting point, dee-luded. By the Northern Stand do you mean the MCC Members' Stand? I think I agree with you - the period of great success was when we had Jim Cardwell (hard-nosed tough administrator) and enough resources in Collins St to dominate an essentially amateur game. Since then, the nouveau riche have risen to ascendancy, the game has become professional, and we look lovely in our blazers. When we get in a coach who couldn't care about the blazers (Northey, Daniher) we do well, but then we revert to type. Stick with this (Neeld) guy - he's the MFC's hope. *edit for Neeld
  4. Met a mate at half-time - and thought we were in it, that we were working hard and that things "felt" a bit different - it was tight, but we knew what we were doing and were a chance - Richmond kicked poorly, sure, but Clarke missed 2 sitters and we had 2 handball clangers which resulted in goals. "I could live with this" Then a complete clusterfsck in the third quater. I have to believe that there's a group of really good coaches there, with a plan that they're implementing, shaking their heads at just how far behind this group are (w.t.f has been happening over the last 3 years?). Neeld mentioned the supporters several times in the press conference - he gets it, and I'm sure Craig gets it. Go Dees
  5. Garland LIVID with Bate not coming to the ball. Just standing there like a statue. Toig's goal.
  6. Just watching the game tonight - Carlton / Collingwood... I was at the Kreuzer Cup and they were worse than us. The subsequent trajectory of the two clubs is a terrible indictment on us. I don't know if it's the recruiting, the players, the management, the coaching, the board, the supporters, our culture (or just plain bad luck). But res ipsa loquitur it speaks for itself. Carlton are a serious premiership threat - we're nowhere. I have a feeling that Neeld will fix "it", in the same way the Northey did. Let's get behind him 100% - see you all tomorrow at the G. I'll be outside gate 2 with a roll of navy duct tape to cover EW logos, if anyone wants some! Go Dees
  7. It's interesting to reflect of the effect that Lyon had on the MFC when he stepped in after 186 - strong character, clearly drove things forward to the great benefit of the club ( = Neild). We need similar strength now - but I just don't think CS is up to it. Can you imagine Buckley fronting the media dealing with the Mifsud saga without Eddie and Pert at his side? Or Scott without Balme? etc etc (I know it was the "routine" presser, but was clearly going to be always dominated by Misfud stuff). It makes me all the more curious about the purported pre 186 near-sacking of CS. Bring back Gazza.
  8. Matt Burgan has been doing a good job, I reckon. This, however, is a low point. Uninformative and too cute, what with the theatrical analogy...
  9. Watching the match. Don't want to hear about how young our list is (GW$ - 17 debutants) or getting used to a new game plan. GW$ are having a go - Junior just ran through some Swans bloke in the centre square... good decision to let him go <not> Makes me worry about how strong our list really is after 4 years of pain. Roll on Game 1.
  10. Yep - complete [censored]. Sounds like Aker came of second best against Jimma But the nugget in the $hi$-pile Akermanis said one of Stynes' greatest qualities was his competitiveness. "When I knew him he was competitive and nasty and brutal. He wanted to win and would do anything to do it." How I would love that to be true of every MFC player.
  11. """ As good as he was to coach, Northey said his teammates appreciated him even more. "They just loved him, they really did. He'd stand up for them, give them support," he said. "When it came to the crunch you could bet your life on it that Jim Stynes would be there for his teammates." """
  12. It's hard not to be discouraged - thrashings in the NAB might be ok for the top teams as they experiment, but I think we're just not good enough. Sure, we supporters need to harden up, sure we need to "wait for the real season", sure we are "just starting". I wonder when our "line in the sand" game will be? (Brereton, Hawthorn v Essendon, 2004). I can't remember when we were feared - well, not true - I was there in 64, and I remember the Northey era. Not sure we were feared in the Daniher years - some simply outstanding and brave players, tough as nails, but the MFC wasn't feared. I look forward to the day.
  13. Any pointers to where on the net there might be vision? Thanks
  14. Stef Martin's leg-break kick went through for behind ... leg-break and MFC footballers should never be in the same sentence just going off to find a defibrillator
  15. I was there, in the Southern Stand, not quite 8 years old. The old man was part of the medical team - never thought I wouldn't see another one for over 40 years! Bring on 2012 and ... go DEES
  16. 3 "lesser lights" Peter Walsh - never saw him make a decision error under pressure - part of that Northey era. Grinter - more skill that given credit, and could walk the walk Froggy Crompton - won us our last flag, by one point, against the filth. immortal and Flower, Ox, Ronald Dale, Bluey Adams, Jimmy, Jakovitch, Neeta,
  17. Kurt Gödel would be proud!
  18. On DeeTv: James Sellar - "step right into the side", "strong characters, hard at the footy..., versatile" "3 players who are courageous and hard at the footy" "the young talls will have to earn their spot" pretty clear what's required to get a game!
  19. Ah yes - I was playing cricket at St Kevin's that day - slow day in the outfield with Mick Taylor soaring above us!
  20. Thinking of going to the B & F... worth going to, even if not part of a table?
