If after the next three rounds we sit on 3 wins and 3 losses I would be very happy.

It's scary to think that Dank was allegedly with us for 4 months. How long does it take to give an injection or a 1000 and what was he doing here? I also find it ludicrous he could be pursuing an unfair dismissal claim after so many years unless with an agenda to profit himself. He could be squeezing clubs for a cash settlement because anything he says be it true or false can do untold damage to any club he has been associated with. He may have us and GC by the short and curlies.

Not been able to post in the last few days due to a family crisis but I was very impressed with the effort on Sunday. Virtually every valid criticism of the club and players was answered in a positive manner. I agree that we were unlucky not to pinch this one. But I would add we have seen all these turnaround positive responses from the club after some humiliating performances before. I will not be convinced until we can perform like against North consistently. Time to be ruthless against an apparently fragile Collingwood and rip their throat out and leave them in one bloody mess. It is not for us to play them back to form. That will be another humiliation.

Would you be happy for another 6 to 7 win season? Would you be happy once we don't have a mathematical chance of making the finals the players shut up shop for the second half of the season? That where we are at with this pathetic attitude. Another flucking stillborn wasted season.

Ah yes the beer cans! They were made of steel then and not aluminium so easy to stand on without crushing them and falling over.

In the seventies some family friends who were Collingwood members used to take me to Victoria Park for a few years when we played there. Unusual for a Melbourne supporter I got to sit in the members about 15 rows behind the Johnston St goals. They were a better class of supporter there but I kept quiet of course. There was no way my parents would let me go there on my own to watch from the general admissions area.

You better tell that to the players next time you're hanging out with them. The penny hasn't dropped for them either. They might listen to you.

into the second quarter and Howe yet to touch the footy for Colonwood.

I don't take much credence at what players say on footy shows. They never tell the complete truth and fob off prickly questions with a straight bat. I doubt if Macca stayed they would have improved as much if at all even if their recruiting was astute. He was Neeld lite.

For those who say we were worse in the 1970's and early 80's should look at the stats. Whilst not something to crow about we averaged 6.95 wins not counting draws per season between 1970 and 1986 and 7.1 wins if we look at the period between 1970 and 1980. Between 1981 and 1986 we averaged 6.6 wins per season. In 1971 and 1976 we had 11 wins and just missed the final 4. Between 2007 and 2015 we averaged 5 wins per season. This current era has plumbed new depths of mediocrity by a significant margin and is no doubt the worst ever period of our history.

Yes we were favourite's in those games but Saints and Lions were not the hopeless rabble that the other two were who suddenly appear like finals contenders when they cross our path.

Have you forgotten the same lame performances against the Bombers and Carlton in the second half of last season? Something like this happening once every few seasons is excusable but 3 times in less than a full seasons worth of games is inexcusable. Goes deeper than just a terrible performance. This is cancerous soul destroying stuff.

Result as it should be. A sloppy undermanned Port beat a plucky 2nd rate Essendon by ten goals.

MATCH PREVIEW & TEAM SELECTION - Round 3, 2016
John Crow Batty replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Must be tough being a moderator and die hard supporter at times like is. Must be texting going immoderate. -
Yes I think it is better to have a thread for each round. Easier to establish time relevance and to find stuff when looking back.

Yep, remind us not himself. -
Got this email from the club half hour ago. Thanks but no need for free beer, just the win will do. Following this club makes me drink too much already. http://view.tmclient.ticketmaster.com/?qs=3b9659fd503b73c3624fb2035d22b5cd46629e454589e902b09f59c8c163bfa81e977694f85c3634e797193c17c2c395ba6347b4b1ca71631933da99053ac2d78247f0ecb81e3966

I was there and went to about 10 games a season. We were bad but no where as bad as the past decade and we usually won the games we were expected to win especially at the G.

The likes of Hawks and Swans usually have surprise early losses but that is no excuse for us because as they steamroll at the end of the season we wilt. We have to claw wins at every reasonable opportunity. And the opportunity was there last Saturday in what should have been an easy win if we were 100% committed which would have set us up nicely for our best start in years. All the warning signs were there given identical disgraceful efforts against the Don's and Carlton last season and we heard all the right words from the club yet we cacked our pants again. There is some serious bridge building with supporters that needs to be done quickly.

I am counting this season also but you are right. 2014 and 15 we started like we were improving then fell away. Seems like we are heading the same way.
-
Raises the question for whom our players are playing for? 3 seasons of snail pace development under the Roos regime sees us more or less at the same level as in early 2014. Tangible improvement has to happen this season or we have to find our own Beveridge. And that will be a matter of luck more than anything else.
-
Hang on, wearn't the Bulldogs in disarray 2 seasons ago? Top players walked, coach sacked, management flapping about like headless chooks and many predicted here they were in for a big slide. Enter Beveridge and they have risen like the Phoenix. I would give him full credit for what has happened because it would have been far easier to continue the downward spiral. Their players perform with a passion and energy we can only dream about. If we had that, we would have been on the up with them. Macca did bugger all IMO.

I was told SEN. Maybe I was told crap.
-
If Carey can help with his footy know how that will be great. Master of controlled competitive aggression. BTW had anyone heard Carey this week on SEN radio say we didn't come to play and he also was alleged to have said that a mystery punter backed Essendon for 2 million at 7 to1? I didn't hear it. Someone who listened told me. Did anyone else hear it or is it all bull?

Hogan last season tended to get into the game early with strong marks and goals. This season it hasn't happened as yet. Defenders are switched on to his threat from the beginning. Mixing in general play early may be a good move.
