  1. Radar, I quite agree with your thoughts, but I did not in any way want to discredit the others. I guess I was saying if a team consisted of just 12 players they would have been my pick. Bowey, Petty,  Kozzie, Sparrow along with others have huge potential. We are just blessed with so many good players. How many teams past or present could lose a third of their Premiership team and still comfortably hold off a tough team like the Hawks?

Match committee: do you prefer the Moet or the Bollinger?

We are blessed with choice. I think some are too harsh on Smith, it was a howler but Nibbler was probably a worse offender trying to run a through spots he was clearly going to get caught.

Matthew Lloyd on AAA said Weid is the more natural forward than BB and TMac and we should persevere with him. An interesting observation.

Dunstan was good and seemed to be playing to our system but, and I thought I would never say this, Viney has been good for a goal each week, largely from set shots.

Lever , Viney in.  Bedford out with Dunstan taking the sub spot.

Dunstan as the sub makes a lot of sense. He is a versatile and good footballer.

My point was; it was a good performance by ANB when measured against the matrix that the team values. Further evidenced by the inclusion in the "best" listed by the Club.

Stupidity to even think ANB should be dropped. He is the ultimate team player and would be in the first picked each week.

  4. What do you mean by limited athletically? ANB can run all day and he is not slow by any means. Before he became a footballing asset to us many branded him as just a fit athlete. The guy can match Langers in fitness and stamina. Like Langer he can run all day. Maybe you had tongue in cheek with your 'limited athlete' comment. Please explain what you meant.

  5. Lets get back to the real situation. A very sad one .

In the space of a few weeks  world sport has suffered the loss of three outstanding sportsmen. John Landy, champion runner and person, the epitome of sportsmanship, Rodney Marsh, wicketkeeper/ batsman of the highest order, and Shane Warne greatest spin bowler of all time. Rest in peace my sporting heroes. You gave us much pleasure in your pursuits.

We’ve got, comfortably 5 ‘ leaders ‘ on the field at any moment in this team… and not just the ones that stick out like a sore thumb.
Look at Sparrow getting between Viney and a couple of Cats players and easing him out of the danger zone in the Preliminary final or Neal Bullen coming into a group of celebrating forwards after the second goal of the last quarter in the Grand Final, telling them to focus. That’s where leadership is appearing in our team now!!!

Yes, I saw that from Neal-Bullen telling his co forwards not to assume it was over. Good leadership. It was only when he kicked his goal to give us a seven goal lead that he and many of us felt the flag was in the bag.

  7. One of my all time favourite Demons. Such a polished, beautifully balanced footballer. He had the perfect combination of sublime skill and toughness. It was always a delight to watch his brilliant passages of play which occurred oh, so regularly. RIP Laurie and thanks for the memories.

  8. A truly mighty effort Deespicable. You are to be congratulated on the time and research you have done. I had 16 out of your 20 selections but no arguments from me over your final selection. Your team was pretty impressive too. Interesting that you had had 14 of our current premiership team in your top 100 players. Says something doesn't it? I would have found a place for Ed Langdon but then realised that he had not qualified with the games played clause. Thanks for a very interesting 5 weeks to tide over the non footy period. Well done mate.

    Best 22

    B: LEVER, MAY, A.JOHNSON

    HB: SALEM, WIGHT, B.LOVETT

    C: FLOWER, PETRACCA, TINGAY

    HF: LYON, SCHWARZ, YZE

    F: FRITSCH, NEITZ, FARMER

    FOLL: GAWN, OLIVER, T.VINEY

    IC: STYNES, J.MCDONALD, S.FEBEY, JONES

A very good team. Maybe I would have swapped  Bruce and Junior on the bench. Not sure Fritsch has earned his place yet though. Wonderful GF performance but he has not quite reached these lofty heights of the others yet.

A snippet for those who can't get past the paywall Keep it going Barass!!!

“Ron is on the improve,” Rosemary Long said. “He went to the gym (on Thursday) and the plan was that he was going to take it easy. But Ron did his full routine, much to the surprise of his trainer.”

Melbourne is now likely to ask Ron Barassi to play a role in its premiership flag unfurling in Round 1 next year.

Typical Ron. Beat anyone on the football field and one stubborn virus. Keep it going Barass, a living legend of the MFC.

The Norm Smith Memorial Trophy is a coach’s award and this year the winner was Alex Neal-Bullen.

And such a worthy winner. He had a wonderful season and his play in the GF was outstanding with his goal assists with pin point passes. Shows so much passion and obviously loves the MFC and his team mates. Congratulations ANB.

  12. Watching for the thousandth time the magic 40 minutes section I was wondering if the Bulldogs defender might have had trouble touching Sparrow's monster kick even if Tommy hadn't prevented him.It was quite high when it crossed the goal line. What others think?

  13. My true belief that we were going to be premiers was when ANB put us 7 goals up. I thought then even lesser Melbourne teams of the past wouldn't let this one get away.  Something that remains entrenched in my memory was Trac's look of steely determination after he kicked his magical dribbler. (Bloody hell it even went over the exact centre mark on the goal line! ) I have never seen a footballer looking so focussed and determined. The look on the guy in the crowd after this goal never fails to move me also. He looks like a lot of us were thinking. "Are we going to be premiers at last." So proud of this team, they really play for each other. The chemistry is good. Roll on 2022.

I believe I saw a car at Whitfords shopping centre with that number plate about 18 months ago. Do you shop there?

I do. There are a few other number plates like mine around the Perth area. I have also seen a couple in the Woodvale area. Cheers.

What did you pay and what are they worth today Bobby?

Good questionQD. Around $110 if my memory serves me accurately. Nothing like todays price which I think is in the $450 zone. I think my design is better than the latest but that is debatable.

I am not sure where this started or where it's going but let's just  say that BT is worse than  either Harry Beitzal or Rex Hunt .

Commentators have use by dates even when start out as a fresh take on the game,.

We tire of them but the boys club keeps them until they go to jail or get sprung in a lane with their pants down.

    But BT?

Commentates of pre prepared cheats sheets and still gets  most things wrong!

Daisy is on the boundary  to quietly clean up his crepe a minute or two later

It was great to hear Dennis Cometti's commentary on Triple M, So accurate and precise and he definitely has a soft spot for Melbourne.

  17. When I bought my personalised MFC number plates ( 57  MFC)about ten years ago, I didn't know 57 would be so significant. At the time, I chose 57 as it was the third of our hat trick of premierships. 55,56,57. Now, wouldn't it be wonderful if the latest 57 number would be the START of our next hat trick of premierships? Very possible I would think. Anyway, here's hoping. Go Demons!
