  1. Not attempting to rewrite history PSD - it's no secret T wanted out - all I am saying is that they brought in a damn good replacement when they had to!
  2. Understand what you are saying BRFE, but I don't believe MN has it.
  3. No sweat PSD, but I wish you hadn't brought the Hawks into the discussion - can't stand them (being polite)!
  4. And your point is? Under the circumstances, the change was spectacularly and unexpectedly successful - no-one's denying the previous coach's good work.
  5. No point in angry insults Bob - if you can't see the point, and if you haven't read the posts already addressing the issue of continuing damage, then you just don't understand. As to quantifying any change in something as complex as a football club, try 'quantifying' culture which can't be done - I would expect improving skills, skills, skills and getting wins on the board is the starting point.
  6. Of course it does BRFE and that's exactly the point! Geelong several years ago were in the same position as MFC (see a previous post of mine), but they brought in the right CEO and coach (and changed coach when necessary) and kickstarted a dynasty that looks a long way from finishing - a generation maybe if the father/son rule is still in operation!
  7. Yes, they changed from the top down - why won't MFC do it!
  8. I have been a Demon supporter (since early 50s), paid up member for a few decades including Redlegs for some time, contributor to the give Robbie Flower a final campaign, etc etc PSD, but I am not afraid to say I am a Cats fan because they play the way MFC should - and for the record, I think the Cats played nine players with less than 50 games experience last weekend - they know how to bring on young talent, something MFC could learn about!
  9. Selective partial quote. Any connection with a previous post re the Western Jets?
  10. I have selectively quoted because I was very troubled when MN's name was even suggested as a coaching candidate - I make no apologies for standing by my opinion!
  11. IMO most posters on DL believe in what they post, are sincere, and above all, believe passionately in MFC - they may disagree with each other, but mostly they respect each other's views!
  12. What an enthralling game, watching 'father' coaching against 'son' - please can we get rid of this boring 'Collingwood' style of play. I must say though, that at one point in the second quarter, it looked like a real game of footy might break out - one can only wish! I also thought the players gave what they could, given the coaching restrictions imposed on them!
  13. I confess to thinking Rodan may have given us one year of solid midfield performance and leadership by example - I was wrong. Pederson no. Dawes doubtful - I will be surprised if he succeeds. Byrnes is skilful and may provide some leadership, but only a short term proposition and probably taking the place of a youngster. As an aside, I am also concerned about Clark and his injury record - hopefully this will not be an ongoing issue. I would have preferred us to go with youngsters (eg Hogan) - given good coaching, there is nothing like the enthusiasm and desire of youth - if they are any good, they will build their own model of leadership, based on the leadership offered from the top of the club (including admin etc) - every young player who gets a chance at AFL level clearly has strong basic abilities (and probably had some leadership at junior levels) and they are keen to show them. GWS gives some idea of the possibilities in this area. Not strictly an answer to your question, but you can see my thinking.
  14. I remember an early season night game between MFC and Geelong several years ago - we won by 5 goals, but the game was much closer than that - it was a good game to watch and not just because we won. I remember thinking this could be the start of a new era for MFC - how wrong I was, Geelong went on to build a dynasty and we collapsed to today's mess. I agree with your post in general H_T, but just want to add that that game several years ago was a starting point for today's Geelong and their team, like ours that night, included young players with potential.
  15. I'll throw in one more comment about Geelong - they seem to really enjoy their football. No, it's not just because they win more often than not. The players seem to enjoy trying playing in different positions. Somehow, they seem to have the confidence to try different positions, different plays, with no fear of being dropped if something goes wrong! We should promote that culture!
  16. Seriously, just finished watching Geelong/Richmond - Geelong are truly an unbelievable side - I do think they can rightfully claim to be the greatest team of all, ahead of Brisbane, Collingwood and MFC. It hurts to say that, but the facts are pretty clear, especially when I think back to where we were in the mid 2000s cf Geelong and where both of us are now!<br />
  17. Throw in a yank called Paton and we'd have a winning coaching team!
  18. There were others who went because they didn't fit with the hierarchy Jumbo, but we've been down that path before!
  19. Bynes, Dawes, Pederson and Rodan were not worth picking IMO, especially if MN is taking a long term view.
  20. Actually agree with most of what you say bing - just leave out the Moloney comment.
  21. There are usually many POVs on issues; it's the particular POV that is shocking!
