  1. Getting the 1st clue about right is the killer. The early posts I did, werent lasting long enough to make use of the clues to follow. Perhaps I have it about right now. We'll see
  2. NP I didnt want to add the rules in every new post. U guys want another now or wait until tomorrow?? I only did enough to see us out until the ND. I'm going to be doing more on the run, if this keeps up. Doesnt bother me either way is fine

  5. Some good guesses, none correct so far. 2nd clue tomorrow,if required.
  6. Read the opening post for the ground rules. I have toughened up the 1st clue, as it seems its been too easy so far. Good luck. Who I am..... (1st Clue) I was recruited from Tasmania as a forward, I am .....?
  7. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/between-a-brock-mclean-and-a-hard-place/story-e6frf9if-1225783103525 http://www.heraldsun.com.au/afl/more-news/brock-mclean-lands-at-carlton-blues-in-afl-trade/story-e6frf9jf-1225783018690 These should help you out.
  8. Not really, you needed the next clue or 2 to narrow it down further. ie Some of the clues = I wore number 10 in my playing days. That could be any number of players. I'll be busy for an hour or 2 refining these clues, I wasnt expecting them to be ended in 5 mins. I'll post another tomorrow pre Melb Cup time. Maybe I can stump someone for longer than a 1 guess attempt. The challenge is back on me
  9. Well done 45.. I dont believe this. You guys are good. Expect tougher clues from now on. Thats it for today.
  10. I had a change of heart, did a quick edit. If anyone gets this in 5 mins, the next player clue is going to be along the lines of my 1st name begins with a 'P'. Who I am..... (1st Clue) I am a Midfielder. I twice polled the most votes (in a season) of any MFC player in the Brownlow I am? ......
  11. Well done Stingrays, this is too easy for you guys. I'll add another tomorrow, as I really need to toughen up these clues. I under-estimated you lot a bit. I now have I better idea as so far as guaging how hard to make the clues Was that a guess? or do I need to make the clues harder?
  12. NP MM ask the dog anyone you want . I just got caught out by 3 yrs, so I better sharpen up my game. I''ll add some from mid 2000, just to help you out. I got caught once, and it seems i need to harden up these clues a bit.
  13. Who I am..... (1st Clue) I played 1/2 forward and center/rover I am listed amongst the most of consecutive games played I am ......?
  14. oops you got me, Late 80's is correct 1987 to be exact. I better double check my facts. Somewhere I read 1990. Didnt matter 1st post got it. But none-the-less point taken and noted I 'll do another one soonish... call that one a test run. I'll toughen up the clues a bit awhile I'm double checking the clues are correct
  15. You got it! I am going to have to toughen up these clues lol I was a full forward with a deadly right foot from a long way out from goal. I am? My power kicking lead me to the NFL as a punter. I am? I wore No 19. I am Darren ....... ?
  16. Ok here is the 2nd one, For those they cant be bothered to read the opening post re the ground rules. You get 1 guess each per day, so dont bother with multiple guessing, or multiple posts, I will ignore those. So make the most of your 1st guess. Who I am..... (1st Clue) I was born in Sydney, played football in West Aust. I was recruited from W.A in the 90's I am ......? Note: I am not on here 24/7 but I try to ID the winner before too many pointless guesses are posted. Good Luck!
  17. Well written and thought out post Jack. If fact too good to be sitting around on here, that piece should be send off to the media.
  18. Seeing the 1st one didnt get past 2 hr mark, I'll post a new one early this afternoon (Melb Time)
  19. Well "Barry Jones" ... if you keep nailing the correct answer that quickly. I may have to rethink my clues. I dont want to be too vague, or make them too easy either. I am aware there are lof ot posters here, that have a very good memory of our players. But didnt expect that one to go that quick. I only planned to do a few prior to the Nat. draft. to fill in some time, before everyone will be discussing who we missed, who we snagged etc These threads die off after awhile, I wasnt intending to make a career out of it. Just a 'filler' for a few weeks, for a bit of fun. If its a popular thread, I may do some more, when training takes a break, and before they get back into the full swing after xmas. Thanks for the offer to help. but you might be found guilty of 'insider trading' if I use outside info for clues etc. I am leaving myself wide open to be hung from the nearest goalpost for misleading clues and facts. But the intention is for a bit of fun.so lets not get too serious. Suggestions and feedback are more than welcome. ie continue with more once a week?, depending on my available free time. Anyway a great pickup on your behalf. Perhaps I need to move you into the 1890 to 1930 category so others get a look in.
  20. Well "young grasshopper" I am not buying into your feeble attempt to sway my agenda A history lesson wont hurt to broaden your knowlegde of ex or existing players. I will mix it up a bit, so you wont feel left out. A wild guess sometimes could be the correct one. its just a bit of fun
  21. We have a WINNER!!! I wont even bother to ask you how you fluked that, but well done. I was struggling for the answer, I knew it. Who I am..... (1st clue). I played on the forward line, I was known for my skill and pace. I kicked over 200 goals played over 100 games. I am ? Who I am..... (2nd clue). I had a son that also played for Melbourne. I started my career in the late 40;s I kicked 4 goals on debut in a quarter. I am? Who I am..... (3rd clue). My intials are R.M I retired at the age of 26. I share Pharlaps stable name. I am? Who I am..... (4th clue). I wore No2.. I am Bobby .....? Ans = Bobby McKenzie.
  22. I have put together a short series of 'Who am I?" I may or may not do more, we'll see how its received. These are players that played for the Dees, anywhere from the 1900's to current players. You get 1 guess each per clue,so dont bother with multiple guessing, or multiple posts, I will ignore those. So make the most of your 1st guess. 1st to guess, with or without needing all the clues, and names the player correctly, gets bragging rights. (No I dont own a chateau at Bulla ,so there wont be any free weekend tickets to the snow in June 2013.) A new "Who am I" each week, (open for change) A new clue will be posted each day. (IF required) There will be 4 Clues on each player . Good luck. If anyone notices a poster that does a multiple post or guesses for 1 clue, could they point out the rules as it WILL be overlooked, regardless if its the correct answer. If that happens will be misleading to other posters, thinking this post was also incorrect. *reason just gives more posters a chance to have a guess. Note: I am NOT on here, 24/7 but I will do my best to ID the winner, before too many pointless guesses are posted. Disclaimer : anyone that cheats gets beaten over the head with a feather. ONE guess per clue. If anyone thinks they can stump the masses, and want to chair the quiz for the week, all you need to do is have a min of 5 players with 4 clues on each player. Send me a PM, I will add you to the roster, then give you a short brief. Scoring System: Quiz Master : No points scored if the quiz is guessed correctly with the opening guess. 1 point for 1st clue : 2 pts (if 2nd clue required) : 4 pts (3rd clue required) : 8 pts (4th clue required) 15 points for stumping the masses. The Masses : 2 Point bonus if you are the 1st to post and get it correct. 4 pts scored on the 1st clue : 3 pts on the 2nd clue : 2 pts on the 3rd clue : 1 pt on last clue. CLUBHOUSE LEADERS : 24 points: Stingrays -- 6 correct guesses (+ 4 bonus points) 23 points: Whispering_Jack -- 4 correct guesses (+6 for 3 questions) (+ 2 bonus points) 19 points: gsmith12 -- 4 correct guesses (+ 4 bonus points)
  23. Tough call cloning one only. kinda like being invited to a confectionery factory, only to be told you can choose one item. My 1st choice = Norm Smith. as a player then coach. Would kick goals, team player and bled red & blue, could turn a bunch of average players into a team playing above its weight, and come out on top. Wouldnt take any crap, and was inspiring. (hated the filth with a passion, love the boy) Next choice Ivor Warne-Smith followed by a skinny kid named R.Flower. (loyal ,inspiring and just awesome on his day) That was most days.
  24. If this wasnt serious it would be laughable, ok so we "tanked". Define tanked.? Did we do anything different to improve our list that any other club had not done in the past? No! Perhaps we deliberately went out and threw the game,so we didnt win. If that was the case why didnt the club rest 50% of our players in that game. Yes we had a lot more to gain,by losing, But the fact remains, we were in front until the final siren. Did we experiment by playing players in different roles, yes we did, We also did that this year and years gone by. So have many other clubs before us, and it will continue. http://www.watoday.com.au/opinion/playing-dead-robs-our-game-of-meaning-20090719-dpdn.html There are more examples of this, the above is just one example. Now IF the real issue was the club being nibbled by bookies or shoddy bets to throw the game, then thats a differnt kettle of fish,IF THAT was the case, then go hell for leather, and cruxify the guilty parties, But thats not the case here. The AFL set the agenda, they themselves made it so that its benefical to finish last and gain a reward. If you dont supply the bullets its impossible to fire a gun. To single out one club, that numerous others have 'tested' the waters before, is just wrong. The Kruzer Cup has been a long standing joke since it happened. I ask the question why, hasnt /isnt that being investigated with the same vigor?? My view isnt that it shouldnt [censored] for tat, if the real agenda is to keep ALL clubs honest ,then I am all for it. Make it known 'big brother' is watching. We didnt throw any game, in our history of 150+ years (as far as I know) We didnt this time, we have at worst been guilty of throwing players around in different positions. And we were still trying, once on the field its against all what we are taught (as players), that is to win and do your best. You cant convince me the players were told to lose, or they werent trying. So for FS let it go, or end this stupid saga, of making the MFC the scapegoat. As for C.Wilson, she got same sort of a vengetta for Schwab? Did he steal her lollies when her old man and Schwab was at Richmond? I am not a fan of hers, but she is one of the better footy journalists, why she is now following the other nuff nuffs, is she now using this and has a new avenue to bring down Schwab, and who else goes down is just bad luck? I would expect more from her, thats not to single out the MFC, but also to report on matters that involved a few other clubs that did worse or at least exactly the same. And reaped the same benefits,in some cases gained a lot more. So how about an even playing field here, then we can all take it on the chin and get on with it. We really need a Eddie clone, we are soft targets, the media know that. At every turn we cop it and cant do anything right in their eyes. If some arent aware, SportsBet etc, are now being vocal, on such matters, so who tail is wagging the dog now? They have a vested interest to protect their profits, and they use the wording of 'making sure its in the interest of their customers' Crap! They want to be sure bets, and their odds are protected,so they dont lose out. The day they have the best intersets of their 'punters' at heart is when hell freezes over. Being a major sponsor of the AFL, they have a right,be ir right or wrong. to feel they have a say of such matters. In closing dont single out one club, if thats the path chosen, then 1/3 of the league is going down,if they really want to head that way. To bow to media pressure,to target one club is wrong, so give us a system that doesnt leave the door open for clubs to take advantage. The AFL is seen to be doing something, investigating, and they have nothing on us, apart from hearsay, disgruntled ex employees and the fact we experimented. So rubber stamp it, and lets get on with it.
