(3rd Cllue) An RF signal (1st clue) along with a costume will help you, Use the numbers too I am .....? Who am I ......... (4th Clue) Using the number 272 will reveal my career. I am .....? ANS = Robbie Flower Recruited from the South-Eastern suburb of Murrumbeena, Flower fit nobody's vision of what a superstar footballer should look like. He was frail and shortsighted, but when he stepped onto the field Flower was in all senses of the word a Demon. Without persistence he might never have been picked up, rejected numerous times by the club he had supported his whole life before finally being accepted for a tryout with the Fourths in 1971. A clearance wrangle with Murrumbeena kept him out of the fourths for a year before making his debut in 1972. By midway through the next year he was in the seniors. He was a wingman for most of his career and was characterised by his ability to create space for himself and kick and handpass the ball with extraordinary accuracy. He possessed speed, surefootedness and unrivalled tactical awareness. In Ken Piesse's " The Complete Guide to Australian Football" Flower's player summary quotes Brent Crosswell "...beat Flower and you could just about retire from League Football because anything else smacked of anti-climax." Wayne Schimmelbusch in the same publication said: "I paid more attention to Robert Flower than any other opponent." Jim Main and Russell Holmesby mention Flower's thin physique and low playing weight-68 kilograms. It was assumed early in his career that he could not succeed because of his "wiry" frame. He sustained injuries that kept him from appearing in another 52 games but he still played 272 out of a possible 324 games and was never left out of the senior side when available.

None correct yet, its a tuffy. But they all cant be easy. I have a mixed bag of clues, some may do your head in, others with a bit a research will give you the answer. Some will get it right off the bat. All I will say, read the clue carefully. ie the Dixon 1st clue, if you assumed served country meantserved in a war etc, that was meant to send you off on a wild goose chase, if you re-read the clue, then questioned why the word 'served' was used, instead of played for, represented.the key was served my state, as opposed to played for. If you went off on the wild goose chase, it was a trap, the saving ryan clue was to send you further deeper into the wilderness, Hidden meanings, look deeper in some cases. 2nd clue will be posted soon,as this one is tough.

I like your thinking ,but not who we are after. Better think long and hard on this one,the clues on this quiz requires some deep thought. Its payback time for me. So many of my early quizzes never got out of 1st gear. I still remember WJ blowing the RDB quiz on me. I should have saved that one for now, while they are away wining and dining on the high seas.

haha well i guess you could say he has hung a few out to dry on here. Not sure he;d like being labelled an executioner: lol

Reminder - One guess / post per clue. Good luck on this one Who am I ......... (1st Clue) Breaking down a form of communication will lead you to my name. I am .....?

Wow, small world! Too bad I threw you, and most everyone else of the track, that was my intention with my 1st clue, then work my way back to tie it all together. If only you had thought outside the square on the 2nd clue, I thought WJ being in that line of work, might have caught on.
-
one more for today. or I'll blow all my quizes too quickly. making up clues is harder than guessing them

Perhaps 'represented" should have been used in place of 'served', I twisted a few clues, as being Brian Dixon, I didnt want to give much away until the3rd clue. as for Saving Private Ryan. Dixon tried to stop Ronald Ryan from the hangman, I knew that was a tough clue, but if anyone remembered,it was a clue. Then the Country was related to his services related to the VFL/AFL duties promoting here and overseas. Of course the biggest fight was the merger he was involved in, arguing with Ridley etc. opposing the move.
-
Well done!! It is indeed Brian Dixon. Must admit the 1st 2 clues didnt give much away, though I thought Smithy or WJ may have twigged on the Ryan clue. Read through the info at the end, and the clues should bring it all together. Well thats the easy quiz done and dusted, now for some hard ones lol. Who am I ......... (1st Clue) I am a well known player.I served my team, State and Country. I am .....? Who am I ......... (2nd Clue) In the movie Saving Private Ryan. I also tried to save Ryan. I am .....? Who am I ......... (3rd Cllue) My football journey lead me to be involved with 2 other clubs (non playing) I am .....? Who am I ......... (4th Clue) I began my playing career at the tender age of 17. Got sacked by the Swans, Was outspoken in one the biggest fights of all time. I am .....? Ans = Brian Dixon It was said he can tell you exactly how many possessions he had during a game. With a wonky left foot, today he would be cruxified on here for being a shocking kick. Dixon played 252 VFL games for Melbourne between 1954 and 1968, playing mostly on the wing. He had a stellar football career, playing in five premierships, winning Melbourne's Best and Fairest in 1960, while in 1961 he was selected in the All Australian Team and he also won the Tassie Medal for his performances at the 1961 Brisbane Carnival. In 2000 he was named in Melbourne's Team of the Century. Despite still playing football for Melbourne, he entered parliament in 1964, as the member for the now abolished seat of St Kilda, representing the Liberal Party. Being from the moderate wing of the party he clashed with then Premier Henry Bolte, especially over the hanging of Ronald Ryan which Dixon strongly opposed. (SEE clue 2) Brian currently travels the world representing de:TAFISA and ASFAA. He is also president of AFL South Africa and takes a keen interest in other countries playing Australian rules football.

Hate to put holes in a great story...but cassette tape? Someone should inform that floating Island, the mainland has gone digital. Surveillance cameras were tapered with by your offsider no doubt,as you would knocking us off the headlines. Man seen tapering with and stealing from art gallery. But with no video evidence of the forementioned heist, you may rest easy on the good ship lollipop. May I also suggest if you are Sydney bound, check the "Rocks" DB is between a rock and a hard place atm.

DeeVoted replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Great to hear the numbers attending training is on the up.Cant help but inspire the boys and staff. I am sure it would get a mention amongst the group at some point in time. I;ll take anything that we beat the filth at,even if its just a training session. Thanks for the training updates -
The 1st clue is nothing more than teaser. The 2nd clue might help some. If not, it just adds to the mystery. Who am I ......... (1st Clue) I am a well known player.I served my team, State and Country. I am .....? Who am I ......... (2nd Clue) In the movie Saving Private Ryan. I also tried to save Ryan. I am .....?

I'm happy to leave it at the club song, the roar of 20,000+ members when they run out, and a win, and leave it at that. Or will will bring my own boombox and take up another seat for it, And play 'we are the champions' while munching on a $10 pie.

Here was something i did come across, when checking out some info on Jako some may remember this. If not, enjoy. A bloke called up SEN and asked David Schwarz what?s Allen Jakovich up to these days.....Ox mentions he?s running a fishing charter company up on the Gold Coast and is a recluse or something along those lines.....then proceeds to tell a story..... In Allen's contract, he was allocated $10,000 every year worth of Puma gear and when he came first time to collect he took all $10,000 straight off the bat.....the idea was to take a little bit each time so your always decked out in the newest products Puma has to offer, but Allen took it all in one hit and was suspected of taking the clothes then selling them down at a market or somewhere else. The next year same thing, comes in grabs all $10,000 straight up.....so one of the Melbourne Football Club Executives or someone along those lines followed him to see what he was up to.....turns out he followed him right to the Royal Children?s Hospital where Jakovich was handing out all the clothes to the kids. Awesome story.....

No dispute re draft No6 in the ND. It looks like I may have to stand corrected on a trade for pick 6. I cant find where I sourced that info atm. If I cant find it, chances are, its not looking good. I did this clue awhile back. if I mixed up the info, I'll remove the egg on my face and move on.
