  1. All your hard work paid off and put a few out of their misery. Next Quiz......
  2. gsmith12 does it again. A top effort considering there wasnt a lot to go on. Who am I ......... (1st Clue) I am in a select group, that is I played in a drawn game. I am .....? Who am I ......... (2nd Clue) I was recruited from Geelong. I left the club (MFC) then returned I am .....? Who am I ......... (3rd Clue) I left again, then returned. I kicked 5 goals straight against St.Kilda using a place kick. I am .....? Who am I ......... (4th Clue) I topped the clubs goalkicking more than once.I left again, and on my return I found myself in the backline. I am .....? ANS = Jack Leith Playing career (1897-1903, 1905-1908, 1911- 1912) Leith was a forward and prior to joining Melbourne in the inaugural VFL season played with Geelong in the Victorian Football Association. He was a centre half forward in Melbourne's 1900 premiership team and topped the club's goalkicking on four occasions, 1897, 1899, 1902 and 1907. When having a set shot at goal he used the place kick and once, in a game against St Kilda, kicked five goals from place kicks. He retired at the end of the 1908 season but returned to the league in 1911, this time playing as a defender
  3. Well done Sherlock! I hate to think how much effort was put into digging that out. Maybe you can explain to the viewers how good he was in his prime. I wasnt around to see him play, but he sounds like a decent player.
  4. I hope Biffen doesnt catch on where I have been digging up most of these clues.
  5. I share your optimism having seen past training sessions and a couple pre xmas, the vibe around the place is the best it has been for a long time. The influx of new faces gives us a renewed hope we will rise from being a seller dweller. The start of the season cant come quick enough. Its not that i am pinning my hopes of a huge improvement, but more a guide on how much we have improved. A lot of factors are coming into play for this year, the coaches have had a season to get on the same page, understanding the players, and what was lacking, where improvements were needed the most. After a clean out some if not most will be aware what the requirements need to met. The recruiting for this year, has, on paper, been the best in years. Whether they all click and play as a team is an unknown right now. A couple of early wins will give them a boast. If they can get on a roll.instead of playing catchup is going to make a huge difference for this year. Theres is a lot to look forward too,but I am not sure how long its going to take. Some intra-club games, NAB cup etc will be the yardstick for this season. Can they step up and put what they have done of the track to a real game? They can all bust their guts out training, playing against other teams, and the variables they throw up is the acid test. The players will need to improvise for different scenerios during a game, as will the coach, can he make the right descisions in the heat of battle, before the horse has bolted? The jury is out atm.
  6. Mrs Smith might not be so keen to offer assistance from now on. I visage the house being torn to pieces, books and the like being thrown everywhere, searching for the answer on this one. 3rd clue about Midday tomorrow I hope Josh is enjoying the history lesson.
  7. Some fascinating discussions going on. Working as a team may unravel it. I just checked the 3rd clue,it doesnt give much away other than its another clue. None correct so far.
  8. Even with Interpols help I doubt I could prevent anyone googling etc. I did try to crash google at one stage,if you read back heaps of pages back it looks like I had some success when WJ was at the airport (Coolangatta?), but I was a bit too late to stop him posting his guess. IIRC it was the wrong guess anyway. (just kidding)
  9. Use any source available to you. you could try bribing WJ or Smithy, I think between the both of them they wrote ALL the data on anything related to the MFC. Jack grew up with Wills & Harrison. And helped with the writing the laws of the game, Well thats the rumour, being humble I doubt he will admit to it. A last resort ring Smithys home, when he isnt there, his wife can help you with some info. I found that out the hard way. She blew a clue that I wasnt aware of. I still dont know if a wandflower is a weed, or should be propagated.
  10. I noticed it was down, as I wanted to check a query on a clue a few quizzes back. If you google a player, select CACHE then select 'text version' to display, in most cases the data has been held, in the cache. Hope that helps you. It worked for me.
  11. I'll clear up any confusion, as this is a tough. This player left, as in departed the club. Terminated his ties etc etc etc he was no longer a MFC player. For reasons unknown to me, he decided to come back to the club. Nothing sneaky, just stating the facts as I read it.
  12. Here is the 2nd clue to this part of the quiz. Who am I ......... (1st Clue) I am in a select group, that is I played in a drawn game. I am .....? Who am I ......... (2nd Clue) I was recruited from Geelong. I left the club (MFC) then returned. I am .....?
  13. Thanks for the encouragement. I tend to get a bit down on myself, used to do it on the footy ground, and elsewhere if something didnt work out perfectly. The diversion lead me to this idea. I am sure someone could do it better. This was just meant to be a filler heading into the ND. Its 2013 we are still going. Its a bit of fun, also taxing on the mind and time doing this clues. Bound to be the odd slipup.
  14. Great report guys, I couldnt get down there, maybe next time I can drop in and check them out.
  15. One more to think about.... Who am I ......... (1st Clue) I am in a select group, that is I played in a drawn game. I am .....?
  16. The facts? since when have we used the facts, i just make it all up. Just joshing, I need a prove reader. I need a spell.
  17. My bad on that fact, it should have read a bit "UNDER" sorry if it threw anyone else as well.
  18. My relief man, Red and Blue Forever needs to have gone awol So I will carry on. Next quiz approx 5pm.
  19. I'll except those ,the conference calls will be monitored closely. If you hear clicking on the line, no need to be concerned.
  20. Stringrays wins in a photo finish from gsmith!! or did smithy tank?? wheres kero wilson when needed? The Closest finish in the history of the World D'land quiz. Perhaps Mrs Smith was on the phone he got help up, Either way he got pipped at the post. (so to speak) Another good win to Stringrays to keep him at / near the top of the leaderboard. And with WJ sailing off into the wild blue yonder, now is a good chance to get a buffer on him. To the other guessees, keep trying. Who am I ......... (1st Clue) I didnt play my first game for Melbourne until I was in my mid 20's I am .....? Who am I ......... (2nd Clue) I averaged a bit over 3 goals a game when playing for Melbourne. In my career I kicked more goals than I played games I am .....? Who am I ......... (3rd Cllue) I was recruited from Latrobe Valley FL when I was 17yrs old. I retired aged 30 I played a career total of 177 games I am .....? Who am I ......... (4th Clue I wasnt always a Demon. I played 3 seasons in the red and blue then I retired. I am .....? Ans = Kelvin Templeton Kelvin Templeton Footscray to Melbourne 1983 At sixteen years of age Templeton kicked 100 goals for Traralgon in the 1973 Latrobe Valley FL season. He was the second man and still the youngest to kick 100 goals in a season in that competition. The Dogs' captain had kicked 494 goals, won the 1980 Brownlow, two best-and-fairests and two Coleman medals when he was poached by the Demons as part of a blockbuster $1.2 million deal that also secured Pies skipper Peter Moore. A superstar at Footscray, Templeton was less influential at Melbourne, kicking 99 goals in 34 games before injuries caught up with him.
  21. None correct on the 1st clue. Here is the 2nd clue to chew the fat over. I dont usually give hints, thats why go to the trouble of making up the clues. But 1 poster so far, was on track with his thinking.
  22. A win is a win, it doesnt matter how you got there. Btw is there anything else I (we) should know in regards to your missus or any other related member of the family, next of kin?, neighbours, who are also experts in other fields, that you would like to share? Just thought I'd pass it by you,so I can keep it in mind for future reference . I never heard of a wandflower either, but ballet isnt high up on my interests, it just happened to be a dead give-away that worked in your favour.
  23. None correct yet, but we are narrowing the field down. I'll check again later today. For any new comers 1 guess / 1 post each per clue.
  24. Well done getting the RF clue, that was excellent pick up. Actually the ballet clue was 50% of something.... a tutu (or two two in this case) use one two gives you his jumper No add the RF, and you get the idea from there.
