  1. Anyone besides reyonds46 remember this bloke ? lol Met him a few times, selling hard drives, nice guy, he might be a bit disappointed he is forgotten around these parts
  2. Well done , go to the top of the class. Had the experts stumped on this one, but you saved face. Who am I ......... (1st Clue) In my 1st game I kicked 2 goals. My debut has something in common with the number I wore on my back. I am .....? Who am I ......... (2nd Clue) During my time at Melbourne my win / loss ratio is exactly the same. I am .....? Who am I ......... (3rd Clue) After being on the list with 2 other clubs I made my MFC debut at the age of 23 I am .....? Who am I ......... (4th Clue) I played for other club played in a Grand Final. I have been involved in setting up a football academy for this club I am .....? Ans = Kevin Dyson ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- He debuted at age 23, the jumper he wore was 23, and he was drafted 3rd round @ 23. From: South Blackburn/Fitzroy/Carlton/Mornington/Oakleigh Talented midfielder who was repeatedly overlooked by AFL clubs despite strong performances in the VFA. He started at South Blackburn, and played Reserves for both Fitzroy and Carlton before joining Mornington. Drafted: Round 3, Pick #23 1990 Pre-Draft Selections Draft Dyson, recruited to Melbourne from Oakleigh, was a consistent performer in his debut AFL season. Playing mostly as a centreman, he appeared in five finals matches while at Melbourne and made his first and only Grand Final when he crossed to Sydney in 1996. He retired after the 1997 season, due to his job with an electronics and computer company required him to often travel and preventing him from being able to train full time. He remained in Sydney after retiring from playing, and has recently been involved in setting up a football academy for the Swans. corrected the year.
  3. I thought I was about to stump the masses, It pays never count your chooks I was about to post the 4th clue, we have a winner!
  4. I'd like to know what plans can / will / should / be put in place for future boards when this current group steps down, gets kicked out.. whatever, to prevent us going back to where we have just come from. Thanks largely to Stynes for the fund raising ideas, that dragged us off the carpet,to finally having some cash flow to spend on areas of the footy club to improve what was lacking. Also built on what the other former board had setup. Too many times in the past we,(thanks largely to generous supporters in digging deep, getting us out of debt), we end up going backwards. Its time the Board, this current one and ones that follow) made the MFC self funded and was able to show its own profit margins without begging for cash.I dont mind handouts to be used to grab a star player from other club, or extra spenditure (one off) for the footy dept. But time and time again, when a new board takes over, they cant keep our heads above water. This current board has built on what assets were in place, so far has improved our situation. But what about a business model for future boards some guidlines set, that they follow, when the baton is passed on. Its ok to have assets, but if they sell them off to get out of debt whats the point, if they sell them to improve their assets, then thats a gain. I own assets, but if I have to sell them to survive, I've failed. If I sell them to gain a better asset, I have succecced. We always seem to be on the same merry-go-round, Out of debt, 6 years later, back on death row. One improves on removing the debt, the next one fails to improve. With expenses that keep going up, we need a smart plan to survive, to ensure our future. retaining assets and also building on profits. If a new board gets elected, whats stopping them on resting on their laurels, as what has happened in the past. They have their time in the sun, then the next board, finds itself fighting to survive. You cant keep putting your hand out, its got to be self funded to the point of being stable. Sponsors, memberships keep our heads above water , fundraisers should be the icing on the cake, not totally relied on reducing debt. But in the past, from lack of foresight, or bad management, or both, we have failed. Sometime soon, I hope, we will be successful on the field, play finals, push for a GF, everything will be rosy, when that cycle ends, its back on death row??.
  5. I'll clarify the 2nd clue now that the 3rd clue is up This players playing record ... they won the same amount of games when he playing, (MFC only ) as they lost. ie : if this player had played 500 games, then he played in 250 winning games, lost 250 games. I think DC was onto that. The 3rd clue ties in with the 1st clue, the 2nd clue was just another factor to add in. (research purposes)
  6. And now for something slightly racier. They are at it again, Australia is having another crack at the world land speed record, a new attempt is being undertaken, (if it all goes wrong ,it will be undertaker). While its currently still in development and testing, they hope to crack 1000 mph. World record is 763mph. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/news/9616795/Australian-crew-launch-faster-than-a-bullet-land-speed-record-bid.html I just wish them luck, it helps to have a few screws loose in the head, hopefully none in the car, (loose word car) doing those speeds is madness. But each to his own I guess.
  7. When I first seen the amount of players now in the LG. I thought way too many for mine. Thats 1/2 the playing team (when all fit and playing). Then after thinking about that, perhaps the thinking was, too put more pressure on the guys on the field and get them to show some leadership and be held accountable. Its one area that does need addressing. It also eases the pressure off the 2 young captains. In the next couple of years I would like to see 1 captain and a smaller LG. But for now, if ours win tally beats the amount in that group I'll be happier.
  8. I'll post the 3rd clue early as we seem to be struggling on this one. Who am I ......... (1st Clue) In my 1st game I kicked 2 goals. My debut has something in common with the number I wore on my back. I am .....? Who am I ......... 14. bin awhile.. excellent drop kick wasnt he?
  15. I had a wry grin when I seen your guess ... Ken Emselle as I originally had him in mind, then decided to go with Rhoden. Every time I watched Rhoden play for the 2's he was killing it, I often wondered why he couldnt get more time in the 1sts. I put it down to his bald head,he looked older. But geez he was a handy player to have lurking in the 2nds.
  16. durango is running hot, thats 2 in a row for him. Who am I ......... (1st Clue) My last ever game for Melbourne was in a reserves Grand Final I am .....? Who am I ......... (2nd Clue) I played in a reserves winning GF in my last year, Ian Ridley was my coach I am .....? Who am I ......... (3rd Cllue) I originally played for University Blues I am .....? Who am I ......... (4th Clue) I won the Gardiner Medal and another Melbourne player Paul Callery won the Morrish medal in the U19's. both in the same year. I played only 3 senior games, I also served on the MFC committee. I am .....? Ans = Phil Rhoden Rhoden was recruited by Melbourne from Richmond, who he had trained with, but was originally from the University Blues where he was runner up for the Victorian Amateur Football Association league best and fairest in 1965. He won the Gardiner Medal in 1968 for his performances in the reserves but played only three senior games for Melbourne. After leaving Melbourne, Rhoden played three senior matches and four reserves matches for Victorian Football Association team Sandringham in 1972. In 1979 he was a committee member for the Demons.

  18. There has been some decent tries on identifying this player, but none correct yet. Here is the 2nd clue. Who am I ......... (1st Clue) My last ever game for Melbourne was in a reserves Grand Final I am .....? Who am I ......... (2nd Clue) I played in a reserves winning GF in my last year, Ian Ridley was my coach I am .....?
  19. Now there's a loaded question if I ever seen one. If they played a senior game for MFC, you can count them in as a possible. Love to help you out but thats your job to work out the clue. my job is to confuse, bluff and make it hard to guess correctly. If you what a extra hint, its going to cost ya.

  22. Someone remind me NOT to alter a clue Its gone of with the 1st poster / guess... bonus pts to boot.
  23. Dont forget 1 guess 1 post per clue Good luck on this one. Who am I ......... (1st Clue) Canned Heat, John Denver had hit songs that will help with where I am from. I have good bloodlines.Perhaps those bloodlines slightly differ from mine. A related member of my family played elsewhere I am .....? I edited the clue. After I posted it. I had a change of heart, its one thing to not let the cat of the bag too quickly, but it originally gave nothing to work with I added 2nd clue into the 1st clue.
