I was thinking the same thing. 2 dymanic forwards in one hit. Who would rate the better player on their day? If the Ox didnt have bad knees,we might have seen him get it to another level, or would his addiction have got worse? As Robbie said after the '87 loss to the Dawks, IF Only.

It was a good pickup, as the clues thus far were not giving much away. Being Schwarta, everything I had was too obvious.

At the end of the 1991 season, he walked out on the club (quit) I vaguely recall it. I think his mum talked him around, he went back to play. He didnt play the 1st game of the 1992 season. If someone has his book, they might be able fill in the blanks. I was counting on someone reading the book, and from there put the clues together. I was a bit uneasy about Sunbury = country. I couldnt ask on here on what was the common believe, that would have been a giveaway. I went with it, then guilt started to get the better of me

Another win for durango, not sure if that was a stab in the dark. But none-the-less a good get. Who am I ......... (1st Clue) Recruited from country Victoria I spent 12 seasons at the Dees. I am .....? Who am I ......... (2nd Clue) Early in my career I walked out but I returned to play again. I am .....? Who am I ......... (3rd Clue) I signed up as a Demon at the age of 15, then worked my way through the ranks. I am .....? Who am I ......... (4th Clue) I am from Sunbury, Won a 'bluey' after some serious knee operations. I am .....? Ans = David "The Ox" Schwarz (alas TheoX) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Recruited from Sunbury, Schwarz made his AFL debut in 1991. He was known as "the Ox" for his beast-like build. David played 173 games and kicked 243 goals with the Demons. A strong centre half-forward or full-forward, he was a crowd favourite due to his courage, aggression and brilliance. David Schwarz burst onto the AFL scene with Melbourne in the early 1990s as a strong marking forward. He played centre half-forward or full-forward and in 1994 kicked nine goals straight against Sydney and with some blistering finals performances and agility saw him touted as the next superstar of the game. (including "that" blind turn against Carlton). Strong marking, agile and athletic, until he suffered numerous knee injuries, playing only two games in 1995 and missing the entire 1996 season. Schwarz resumed playing in 1997 at a weight of 103 kilograms (230 lb), which was 3 kilograms (6.6 lb) above the weight he subsequently carried in 2000,and help the Demons to a Grand Final berth in 2000. While the great spring was gone, the determination was still there and he reinvented himself with a more bullocking style of game that saw him win the club's best and fairest in 1999 and passing the 100 game mark, something that was unthinkable a few years earlier when knee injuries left his career in tatters. In typical style he celebrated with 20 of his closest mates and his mother, who had brought him up single handed since the age of eight. His father had been murdered. When crippling knee injuries cut him down in his prime, he fought his way back three times. His final successful comeback was one of the more remarkable in football. David Schwarz A true story? Apparently when Neil Balme was coach, Balme stormed into the clubrooms, abusing someone for stealing his personal parking space. Then demanded to know who the F$#@ is Theo-X!! Tell him to move his F%^&%#$ car!.There were a few muffled chuckles, Mr Schwarz had personalized number plates on his car. The Ox. At 6' 5" weighing over 200lbs, he was going to park anywhere he liked.

well we'll now find out what the popular vote is...... country? We have a winner

It wont suprise if there is some conjecture on whether or not this place is still deemed as a country town. I'm going with country, some may not. So for agruements sake, lets go country, as it seems I have thrown you more than I helped. Diamond Creek,F'Gully etc comes under outer suburbs.
-
I'll give a hint on the 1st clue, its been bothering me after I posted the clue. Not Country in the true sense of the it , more like far outer CBD. A long time ago it would have been country vic. I cant say, without blowing the quiz.

Hardeman has been named already. You can have another guess.

The last training session @ Casey during a match Sim, Blease was very impressive,he was the link man from defence. He used the ball very well. Barring any setbacks I can see him having a big year. If he can get into the game more, we could have something special. As for chasing, all the players are expected to run both ways. Personally I dont think his tank is there yet. Not through lack of trying. he always looks knackered. -
looks like we need the 3rd clue Who am I ......... Just something i did notice. I am still on the fence in regards to Lynden Dunn, probably a bit lucky to still be on the list. But good luck to him for surviving.I hope he has a great year. He walked past me, close enough to almost high 5 him. He is a monster. Solid as a brick outhouse. -

You can be happier, I wouldnt go cracking too many cans open just yet. But they are now under full match sims, putting the backs and forwards under intense pressure, handballing, if thats the best option, or a kick. Something I rarely seen pre Neeld & Co. Its not perfect and I see a big improvment, add in they are heaps fitter, and also not getting away with sloppy handballs or kicks, they get pulled up for those. There is no better way to improve in those areas, than in a real game. Hopefully they wont crack when they have real opposition , then continue to build on their skills and confidence during a game. I cant wait to see how they go in the NAB cup, that will give a much better guide to where they are at. -

All the training sessions I have been to, they havent been going thru the middle of the ground, but down the flanks, switching across to the opposite flank, really selecting their best option out of defence. They havent been right on the boundray line, but midway from the centre to the boundary. Thats been the main focus on match sims, that I have seen. Some drills have included practising thru the middle to the forward line. My take is they are taking the safe option, thats keeping it out wide.My gut feeling, is they are working them into getting it correct out of defence, and when they are happy with that, hopefully we'll see them go straight for goal once its cleared out of the backline. It may all fall apart in a real game. We'll have to see what pans out. I hate going down the flanks, its the long way home, and one miskick, its back in faster than it just came out. So far I am happy with what I have seen, their kicking to position, sometimes a player doesnt hit the target. Its work in progress. -

Yokozuna has got it all covered, good report. If anyone is thinking about heading down to Casey this Friday for the BBQ and watch training. I suggest they CHECK the MFC website for confirmation! I too was informed by the same guy about this Fridays BBQ etc. Later I was chatting to someone else from the club, and was told he thought it was the Friday after, and the other guy has got it confused. He then suggested to check the website before trekking out there. So now I am confused. Trenners is expecting to begin running next week or the following week. I overheard Sylvia saying his back is still giving him some minor problems. Thats about all I can add.No point me repeating what has been posted. Apart from the hard slog in the inclose clearance drills, some of the players were more than happy to have photos taken, and sign autographs, as their mates were sweating it out on the ground. Neil Craig was the main man to oversee most of the drills. There were approx 80 supporters there, so a good turnout. -
You are amongst friends here smithy. Aim and fire when ready.
-
I went to the same school as Garys' younger brother. I know who got all the footy abilities. I used to drill his brother every week on what goss he had.
-
That wipes smithy outta the 1st clue lol Thats almost all the 'big' guns done and dusted on the 1st clue. As i skip off into the sunset, next (2nd) clue, approx midday tomorrow.
-
I see your point, I was defending stingrays guess somewhat. (Dont know why, he got it wrong anyway). You could say we got him from the Hawks 2nds, via Inverloch originally. I luv to mislead. Nipick to your hearts content. lol next!
-
No offence taken My calculator has new batteries. A number of former players went on to serve on the board. That may or may not have any bearing on this, just thought I'd mention it.
-
You are 100% correct on that, But what about prior to him joining the Hawks.?
-
next quiz: 1 guess / post per clue. Good luck. Who am I ......... (1st Clue) Recruited from country Victoria I spent 12 seasons at the Dees. I am .....?
-
I'll post another quiz later today. I'll let you guys get over that one,and I'll go drown my sorrows after looking at getting full points in the face until reyonds46 spoiled the party for me.
