  1. There have been many, but these 3 are right up there. 1: Melb vs Coll 1964 2nd Semi Absolutely destroyed the pies, and therefore thought we were unbeatable for the flag. As a young kid at the time, I learned 2 things from this, never take everything for granted, and Grand Finals can be very different from all previous games. As it has turned out, I havent had to worry about being cocky when it comes to the Dees winning a flag since then. 2: The euphoria at the Western Oval (1987) that day was something that had to be witnessed to be believed. 3: The complete opposite was experienced only a few weeks later when we lost the '87 Prem final.
  2. U sure they were frogs?? May have been Cousins off his face.
  3. Interesting little test. Playing cricket I bat LH bowl RH, can throw either hand. Bouncing the ball while running with my left hand,Dominate is right foot, dominate handball is LH. Footy Kick/ handall either side. The test didnt help me with why the above works that way. I was hoping to find an answer to that. The results kinda prove not much difference ............... braindead on both sides. If i need to use both hands I am lefthanded, if I only need to use one hand, I'm righthanded. 4. Why wait? Someone contact Nostradamus, He'll know.
  5. I'll go back to the mid 60's This wouldnt make up for the hurt since those days, but its the best news since RDB came back to the club I'll throw in Templeton, Tilbrook for starters as getting my hopes up, they bombed. Just to clarify, I dont mean it to sound like If we get Roos he will bomb, more the point, i have got my hopes up many times only to be let down time and time again.
  6. With what has come to light in the last couple of days..... most of Neil Craigs last match day presser changed tact from the norm. It seemed to me he was talking up the need for a priority pick and said the list wasnt up to it. Whereas in the past he stuck to where we had improved blah blah.It was like a hard sell on his part. The last presser I just thought when I heard him speak, he was taking another avenue to convince the AFL we need picks. Now I am convinced he knew what the likely outcome who was to be the coach , therefore didnt talk up the team improvements in the game as in previous pressers. Perhaps his coaching position meeting was more an update on Roos almost over the line or is to be coach, and they wanted his views and opinion on matters regarding his position and any input he had to offer. My take was he reverted back to selling the club and its requirements, rather than a coach talking up the team as a whole. My gut feeling as is most on here, is that we have our man, just a few loose ends that needed to be tied up. For those that wanted to know what Phil Cleary said on Ch2 today. He said Roos has signed with Melbourne, then a pause, then finished with, almost a done deal. I went from elation to tell me something i dont know whithin a matter of seconds. I am not sure if it helped but I apoligised to Roos for belting the Swans in Rnd 17,2010 (he worst defeat as a coach) I hoped he didnt hold that against us.
  7. The 3rd and final part of our players that I consider borderline or most likely to be cut at season end. Daniel Nicholson Contracted end of 2013 Age 22 183 Ht 76 Kgs Career = 31 Games 4 Gls 10 Bhs 2013 = 10 Games 3 Gls 1 Bhs Best Season 2012 Pros: Has good pace and willing to take the game on. When on his game he can create space and be the link man. Cons: Sloppy disposal leading to turnovers. Lets himself down with undisplined disposals. Outlook: Could go down as another that didnt make the most of his aliblities. Has what it takes, his disposal leaves much to be desired. If he cant improve this then his AFL time is going to be limited. There is not much better than watching a player use his pace to break away and hit a target up forward. Nicho does this, except the target up the ground more often than not, is the opposition. He is one of the best trainers on the track. he needs to work hard on his ball use. We wear the Red & Blue jumpers Nicho! Borderline to survive. David Rodan Contracted end of 2013 Age 29 173 Ht 87 Kgs Career = 185 Games 131 Gls 73 Bhs 2013 = 10 Games 3 Gls 1 Bhs Best Season: 2007 Disposals 401 28 Gls 11 Bhs (Port Adelaide) Pros: Brings experience and leadeship into the club. Good clubman and role model. Cons: Now at his 3rd club. A bandaide fix for our lack of experienced players on the list. Outlook: Brought in to make up for a shortfall of depth and experience. has played a role in guiding and showing the way for his less experienced team mates. How long he remains is in question. Rodan only showed in patches what he can do on game day. This is probably nothing more than a draftee would do in his 1st year. But he is tough and knows the ropes. I cant see another year contract on offer. * Updated his lastest knee injury may have sealed his fate. James Sellar Contracted end of 2013 Age 24 196 Ht 98 Kgs Career = 43 Games 13 Gls 9 Bhs 2013 = 10 Games 3 Gls 1 Bhs Best Season: 2012 168 Disposals Pros: Can play a role forward or back, also pinch hit in the ruck. Cons: Hasnt done enough to suggest he can cement a spot. 6 yrs on a AFL list and played 43 games. Outlook: At this stage only a depth player. a handy player to fill a role. During the 2013 pre season games he looked like he was about to have a breakout year, since then has struggled with fitness and failed to make much of an impression. Spots on the list have to be made available to make way for drafting mids. Sellar could be one of those to make way. Might be saved, but I cant see it. A rookie spot might be an option. Rory Taggert Contracted end of 2013 Age 20 188 Ht 85 Kgs Career = Games 0 Gls 0 Bhs 2013 = 0 Games Best Season: N/A Pros: Rory has a good build for a tall midfielder. Cons: Unproven at AFL Outlook: Played a couple of ripping games for Casey in 2013,had most of us demanding a callup for a debut at AFl level, It is all well and good to let young AFL wannabes get game time developing their wares in the VFL. At some stage its not a bad idea to see what they can do in the bigtime. Then drop then back to work/improve on their game. So far his luck hasnt gone his way. Has a good built to be used as a tallish Mid. I would prefer to keep for another year, but not my call. Luke Tapscott Contracted end of 2014 Age 22 180 Ht 87 Kgs Career = 44 Games 11 Gls 11 Bhs Best Season: 2011 188 Disposals 15 Games 2013 = 15 Games 7 Gls 6 Bhs Pros: Can play a role forward or in the backline. At times been tried in the midfield Cons: Another player that has failed to come on. Lacks pace and endurance. Therefore needs hard work in the pre season. Outlook: Luke is another that when you looks at him, he is built like a brick outhouse. He is fearless, this factor has cost him game time at various stages He puts his body on the line.He has qualities that are lacking from most on our list, that is, he is more than capable of really hurting opponents just through his attack at the ball and to hit body to body. A number of times the opponent has got up knowing he has been hit. Lukes problem is that through a lack of ball coming into the forward line has limited his chances to impress. He was thrown in the backline, and started to gain confidence then got suspended and then injured, since then hasnt done enough to convince anyone he has enough to warrant a place on the list. A powerful kick, takes a good mark, and knows where the goals are. With better quality ball coming into the forward line, he is capable of causing problems for opposition defenders. I am not sure if we can afford to hold onto him for another season or 2. We need Mids, he doesnt atm have the endurance or speed to make me think he can be a mid. Worth another year, but wont be surprised if he was cut from the list after that if he doesnt do more to inspire. Would like to see him have a run in the midfield. Josh Tynan Contracted end of 2013 Age 19 186 Ht 76 Kgs Career = 2 Games 0 Gls 1 Bhs 2013 = 0 Games Best Season: 2012 14 Disposals Outlook: Has played some good games for Casey, at times looked on the verge of getting another callup for the seniors. Hasnt set the world on fire, but looking at it another way, he is still just 19 almost 20yrs old. If someone in the football Dept, work out how to develop teenagers into AFL footballers.it would be handy.I am not convinced he has what it takes to crack it into the bigtime. Some need more than a few years to develop, Josh might be one to drop back to the rookie list. Borderline at this stage. ROOKIES: Tom Couch Age 25 177 Ht 79 Kgs Career = 3 Games 0 Gls 0 Bhs Best Season: 2012 33 Disposals 3 Games 2013 = 0 Games 0 Gls 0 Bhs Pros: Knows where to go to get the football, can dominate at VFL level. Cons: Lacks a bit of pace, and another NQR to make it at AFL Outlook: Another that is too good for VFL but not enough pace for AFL. Cant fault his desire and I would put him in with Velenti as a player that will dominate at VFL, but cant take the next step to be a permanent fixture in the seniors. Cant see him getting a renewal. Magner is ahead of him, and he cant get a game. At 26 next year, having to fail to do enough this year, he will be cut. James Magner Age 25 178 Ht 82 Kgs Career = 19 Games 4 Gls 6 Bhs Best Season: 2012 240 Disposals 17 Games 2013 = 2 Games 0 Gls 1 Bhs Pros: Determined and wants to succeed. Could be a ball magnet Cons: Lacks pace, both with hand and leg speed to standout from many others. Outlook: Started out in a blaze of glory. Playing with lack of quality around him, he still was able to have some thinking he was going to be a permanent mid. Then someone in their wisdom, decided to turn him into a tagger, he lost confidence, and the toll of his 1st season caught up with his body. Since thenhas been dominating in the VFL, but still couldnt get a gig in the 1sts. Been left stranded on the rookie list, through no fault on his own.Turning 26 next year, might look back and think he was robbed, but he gave it his best shot. Chances left are slim. Footnote: Coach Neeld came in all guns blazing, and at first glance seemed to be the coach that was going to sort out the list. In hindsight had nothing left after firing all his bullets. Mismanaged players, got some offside and will be seen as failed to bring in the right experienced players to fill gaps.He failed to inspire me and the players it seems. Although not all his own doing, he did what he thought was best at the time. Now we look forward to another cleanout, a re-build and hopefully some quality mids. Whoever coaches in 2014 has a bit of hard work ahead. *** Any players not listed I regard are required players. This doesnt mean some that could be traded.
  8. I can see your line of thought about this, therefore dont take it as a personal attack, as its your money Ralph, you have every right to invest ,spend, waste it on anything of your choosing. But the AFL wont be sweating on Mr dee-luded and Co holding them to ransom. The AFL will be more intent on bailing out the MFC or any other club, IF it sees 60,000 fans at the G, and their team is under performing, if a team only gets 6.000 per game game, they wont be thinking if they help, the club members will re-sign. It will more likely see it as whats the point, we invest XX amount into this club, and dont get return for our investment. As hard as it is to watch the garbage played week in week out, we still need members, or non members at games. bums on seats will keep us viable. Any revenue the club gets, we hope, it uses it wisely to improve the club as a whole.IF we had 50,000 to 60,000 members paid up, we probably wouldnt need the AFL and its blackmail money.
  9. I hope it starts off like every other year, thats a public holiday.
  10. I was against going to Darwin. What the players need after this xmas, is bring out the footys, and practice practice ball skills. Then when they are sick of doing that do more match sim matchups, until they hone their ball skills, kicking and hitting targets , cut out the suicide handballs, until get it into their heads to run and create options.Turning the ball over murdered us all year. While they are under match sim, they also improve their game fitness. Its back to basics. Misson can go to Darwin. let the coach ,coach.
  11. I'll cough up again. Its like throwing $$ into a big black hole with this club. But as long as there is a team named MFC / Demons. I'll keep supporting them.
  12. Vote for the rules committee to be outed. They just cant help themselves fiddling about with needless rule changes every year. Its a blight on the game. I;m all for improving existing rules (the way it was originally layed out). Protect the ball player, and the rest of the basic rules may do with a fine tune. Its being over goverened, the ave supporter agrees. The $hit will hit the fan when a team loses a close game, due to a interchange infringment, then declare the offical miscounted the rotations. It will happen, its just a matter of when it happens. What i cant work out is, they (AFL / Rules committee) agree the game is faster and needs changes to slow the game down, yet they bring in a new rule, that it is now ok NOT to wait for the goal ump to stop waving his flag after a score, and bring the ball back into play without delay. Right there is a confliction of what they are saying. While waiting for the goal ump, you got a bit of a breather, had more time to pick up loose players etc etc. I cant figure this mob out. The rotations and extra players on the interchange, only assist stronger clubs with more depth players. Players survived for 70 years with no rotations, they just got more fatigued as the game went on. It then began a battle of will power and fitness, not who has more depth on a list.
  13. No 12 has tested those waters
  14. It sounds great in theory, the reality is I dont think it would work the way intented. 1: The new coach is going to need at least 2 years to 'un-neeld' this rabble. Another couple of years to get the players required. 2; If we had anyone decent in the wings, other clubs would be onto it, and snipe him. 3: Who is going to hang around for the duration, waiting their chance at the big time. 4: The head coach will want to select his own people to assist. Its his call. If not he may not be all that thrilled with someone he doesnt want to work with. 5: The standby coach more than likely is tarnished with the out-going coaches flawed habits. (If he is following on from a coach that got us consistently into finals , then he can build on those expereiences.this COULD work) But thats not going to happen anytime soon. 6: Most times a fresh voice with new ideas is the better way to go. My track record at picking coaches is woeful (well depends... going by our results maybe not) I thought Greg Hutchinson was a shoe in after his caretaker effort. Then Mark Williams *Sandy 3 flags" was a good chance. I have better results picking players than coaches. I would prefer someone like a Neil Craig to dissect the current coach, when that coach is moved on, Craig or whoever is in the chair. has a say on the next in line, then the coaches commitee narrow down the candidates. I cant see anyone in the wings bideing their time working out. Now someone cuttting their teeth at Casey, getting results and experience could work in our favour. But thanks to our great player management, Casey have had a new coach every year, not one has hung around, after being shafted. Anyone know when nominations for the Casey job for 2014 will be made known??? Or is it possible they may have a 2 year coach this time round?? *shakes head* Having a 2nd string Chairman is something I have pushed my barrow on for yonks. Someone able to slip right in, without missing a beat. We require a strong and stable board, and then when a change is required for whatever reason, its a smooth transaction. Back to the coaches, stack them with the best available. When they finally show signs of success, then move in a successor. Give me a coach NOW that can give me results, let the rest take care of itself for the moment.
  15. There have been some movement in the camp this week, I decided to post my thoughts on the fringe players regardless prior to these announcements. Added some updates. I posted the A-Ds and now the E - Ms. Michael Evans: Age 20 Ht 180 75 Kgs Debuted 2011: Contracted end of 2015 Career = 13 Games 6 Gls 4 Bhs 2013 = 9 Games 6 Gls 4 Bhs Best season 2013 : Pros: Evans could develop into a more than handy Midfielder. Brave, fearless. Had a good turn of speed and can get his own ball. Willng to run and carry and will kick a goal. Has good balance and gives as good as he gets.Has the goods and young enough Cons: Injuries are his worst enemy. If he fails to make his mark, injuries will have played a big part. Outlook: 'Pickles' I admire. He has fought he way through back injuires and setbacks. When some may have said enough is enough I'm going back home. To his credit he remained and is committed. He is aggressive at the ball, and can run and spread. there is a lot to like about the boy from W.A. To be able to fulfill the promise in his ablility he needs to stay on the park. Could be a damaging mid. In his own way I can see another Junior Mac on our hands.Anyone so determined and brave gets my vote every time. He still needs to work hard and keep improving, or he'll join a long list of almost but didnt get there in the end. 2014 he must deliver. Jack Fitzpatrick: Age 22 Ht 200 95 Kgs Debuted 2011: Contracted end of 2015 * Career = 14 Games 18 Gls 11 Bhs 2013 = 11 Games 15 Gls 9 Bhs Best season 2013 : Pros: Agile and quick for someone of his size and can ruck or play forward. Cons: May be fragile in mind. Confidence in himself might make or break him. Outlook: Had the critics calling for his head after his first game, and rightly so. Seemed to be punching above his weight and looked lost.Add in some health issues that could have curtailed his career with the Dees, he fought through it and started to create huge problems at VFL level. Whether it was rucking or playing in the forward line, Suddenly Fitzy was making people stand up and take notice he got his reward and earned a recall to the seniors. Luck played a part, no Clark or Dawes. To his credit, with his confidence growing he put his knockers on the back foot. He still needs to work hard on his skills but has time on his side. Finding a place up forward with Clark Hogan Dawes and perhaps Howe, he has his work cut out. If he keeps improving he will make it hard to keep out. An outside chance of being traded for a quality mid. * Update- Just signed a 2yr extension on his contract. He has played some good games over the last month, but he will still need to keep improving, or will remain a fringe player. Tom Gillies; Age 23 Ht 192 87 Kgs Debuted 2009 (Geelong): Contracted end of 2013? Cons: Could face a problem getting himself a position in the backline. Hasnt shown enough to date. Outlook: Traded from Geelong and I havent seen enough of him to form an honest opinion. With enough players ahead of him in the pecking order he may find himself on the outer. Like any player on the list I wish him well. In a push for mids, he probably wont be around in 2014. Frawley Garland Gawn Grimes Howe all required players Neville Jetta Age 22 180 Ht 81 Kgs Debuted 2009 Contracted end of 2013 Career = 40 Games 19 Gls 13 Bhs 2013 = 4 Games 0 Gls 1 Bhs Best Season 2009 : 179 disposals 7 Gls 8 bhds Pros: Speedy and hard at the ball and opponent. Doesnt mind it tough, could be the small we need. Cons: Been on the list for 5 years and has failed to cement a spot. Outlook: Jetta has been floating on the list for long enough to have shown he has whats it takes. Through injury and suspensions at various times has everyone wondering where he is at. In a team screaming for a small speedy defender or foward, so far has let himself down. Shows he has what it takes but more often than not, fails to deliver when required. Most likely will be cast aside to make way for a mid to be drafted. Joel MacDonald * Age 28 188 Ht 88 Kgs Debuted 2004 (Brisbane) Career = 124 Games 6 Gls 15 Bhs 2013 = 1 Game 0 Gls 1 Bhs Best Season 2009 (Brisbane) Pros: Tough determined defender. Cons: Now at his 2nd club, in a team struggling. Had some good servicable games. Disposal for an experienced player can be questioned. Outlook: I cant see joel seeing out another year on the list. he has played some good games, but others have moved ahead of him. Just a depth player and in the best interest of the club, his spot is better opened up for a a draft pick. To be cut. * Update Announced his retirement during the week. Jordie McKenzie Contracted end of 2015 Age 23 186 Ht 82 Kgs Career = 67 Games 10 Gls 4 Bhs 2013 = 10 Games 3 Gls 1 Bhs Best Season: 2012 341 Disposals 3 Gls 2 Bhs Pros: Could be one of the best shut down players in the AFL. Determined and committed to his task. Cons: Lacks the ability to hurt the opposition by being only a defensive player. Outlook: Still only young, seems to have been around forever. One of the best shut down players going around. has had some of the toughest tasks to do for the team and most times comes out in front. He needs to improve his own possessions while keeping an opponent out of the game. Fills a role for the team. 'The human blanket'. But really needs to contribute more on offensive side of his game. Every team needs a Jordie Mac. Tagging can be seen as a thankless task. He is safe for now. *** Any players not listed I regard are required players.

Cons: With only one reasonable year of 5 so far, is amongst a number of players that have not managed to make a position their own Outcome: Bail is another with a stop start career. He has good pace and can get the footy. He would more than likely benefit from having a few more A graders around him. Injuries at various times have limited his progression. May benefit from playing under an experienced coach. Head injuries are a major concern. Next year he will need to make the most of his chances. Another at the crossroads. Cons: Could be seen as taking a place better given to a younger player. But who? Outcome: Recruited to be a leader and add guidance , experience to a young list and be seen as a role model. He has added great value off field. But one of Neelds ideas that is seen as a short term gain. In his 1st year in his new club with a struggling team, hasnt set the world on fire. But who would, 1st year and had to settle in and get to know everyone etc. On borrowed time. Willing to take the game on and is still young enough to develop his game and take it to another level. Cons: Doesnt get enough of his own ball or does he have a tank to make the most of his talents. Also needs to improve his awareness of his team mates around him. Can be seen to be selfish and not taking a better option. Outcome: Didnt have the best start to his career, (with a broken leg). Worth hanging onto but really needs to work harder. Another that would benefit with a few A graders around him. But he doesnt have that luxury atm. He has the runs on the board to prove when up forward, he can hurt the opposition on the scoreboard. He should become a good player for us as long as he has the desire to train hard. Expected more from him this year, and has disappointed. Trade bait perhaps?. Troy Davis: Age Ht Kgs Debuted 2013 : Contracted end of 2013 Career = 1 Games Gls Bhs 2013 = 1 Games Gls Bhs Best season: N/a Pros: Young defender much the same as a Garland type (when he played his 1st game)? But even though his form at Casey has warranted a place in the big league has failed to get a gig. At times shows a bit to warrant selection. Does a good shutdown role on key forwards in the VFL. Cons: May get found out with a lack of space, and could be seen as another Dunn type of player. Disposal could hurt him just as much as it hurts the team. Outcome: Borderline, unproven. Tries hard and isnt afraid to take the game on. He has been thrown around lately and played in the forward line in the VFL. Hasnt set the world on fire, just a good honest player. We need more run out of the backline and a link player, not sure if he has enough weapons in his game. If he grabs his chances he might do enough to bunt Dunn out. At this stage hasn't done enough to suggest he is nothing more than a depth player. Touch and go if he remains on the list. Aaron Davey: Age 30 Ht 177 75 Kgs Debuted 2004: Contracted end of 2013 Career = 174 Games 173 Gls 126 Bhs 2013 = 16 Games 14 Gls 9 Bhs Best season 2009 : 504 Disposals 9 Gls 8 Bhs Pros: Disposal by foot. Dangerous around goals and still has the footy smarts. One of few experienced players needed to guide the younger players. Cons: Age is not on his side, Short burst player, doesnt have the weapon he once had to chase down opponents he once had, Outcome: No doubt his best years are behind him. Still processes a lethal left foot, but his lack of tank sees him not doing the gut running required. His best position now late into his career is a crumbing small forward. A player, the opposition still need to guard closely and he still is damaging when the chance comes his way. Depends on the new coach, if he sees Davey as part of his plans. He really struggled with last years pre-season. Davey himself may decide its time to put the 'flash' out to pasture. Lynden Dunn: Age 26 Ht 192 96 Kgs Debuted 2006: Contracted end of 2013 Career = 113 Games 90 Gls 63 Bhs 2013 = 14 Games 3 Gls 1 Bhs Best season 2010 : 265 Disposals 26 Gls 22 Bhs Pros: Big bodied player that was originally recruited as a forward. The last few years has been played down back and been able to shut down his opponent. Has a good long kick, and can get into the head of opponents. When given a chance can go forward and kick goals. Cons: Not blessed with pace. Doesnt hit packs hard enough. Can be all over the shop with his disposal by foot. Suffers from brain fades. In a good side would struggle to get a game. Limited ability and limited time left to be worthwhile in the future. Outcome; Filling a role and most times doing enough to hold his spot in the team. He doesnt give me any great hope he much more to offer. I cant see any worth in a trade. perhaps a Pick at best but then do we take a chance, when we might end up no better off? The new coach may decide his future for him. That covers the A - D names on the senior list. No doubt there will be varying views of opinions. But the point is the above list will be under the pump to remain. The new coach will have the final say. Feel free to discuss the above players. Same may be trade bait, some retained, some delisted. PS: I know Davis will play his 1st game this weekend, but decided to go with my views anyway. * Dom Barry too early to call * Clark and Dawes are safe.
  20. Same here. 3yrs old until 15. Somewhere in there someone told me I was zoned to Hawthorn. Does anyone know how hard it was back then to find a kidnapper that was willlng to keep me in lockdown in the Bentleigh area. When you need one, nothing!! Had some good footballers from around there. Remember Gary Hardeman Chelt . Pretty sure Watts lives (d) in Sandy, Went to Brighton, oh well nobody is perfect.
  21. I was thinking the same as I wrote that. (dont mention the Germans) I dont want to play down the war,but... not even that lasted 50 yrs. Its almost as though we have been sabotaged since the late 60s. We have so many great players since those days. But too much left to too few. But at least back then there were a handful to keep the interest going. Now zilch. I cant wait for per-season when they are training the house down. Then get smashed in the NAB Cup. This cycle better end in 2014.
  22. This explains a lot No run out of the backline. Also may explain why these days he suffers from having a stiff neck. due to watching the ball continuously going over his head.
  23. 1919 would be our the worst season. 16 games played Wins = 0 43% I can safely say I wasnt around back then, but perhaps WJ can shed some light on some of our performances he watched that year. I cant remember any team playing as insipid as this current lot.
  24. Yep thx . Choke got there in the end Just so there isnt any confusion. These Rank x Pts will only be used for sorting out next years leagues. If we retain the interest, 2014 onwards will work on relegations and promotions pending ladder postions. If you finish last, you drop to a lower league, if you win the GF in a lower league you get promoted. I'll go into more detail at a later date. Waiting on numbers to make up the leagues. (The All Stars are lagging on confirmations). I have mentioned this before. anyone that isnt in one of the 3 leagues at present. Feel free to post your intentions. Its open to anyone wanting to be part on it in 2014.
  25. Thats better! This is what we use to allocate the top scores, the top 18 into Legends, then the next best 18 and so on. The rookie league is scoring well.
