  1. Yes - great pickup by North if true. He was CEO at the Eagles in the early '90s as well as Geelong. He turned those clubs into powerhouses. A brilliant administrator. I wish we had him. At the moment our club seems to be totally run by Mark Neeld.
  2. This guy was going to be delisted by one of the worst teams in the league. He couldn't even get a game with them. He's old and he's past his prime, thanks to a terrible run with injuries. Pick 88 could have been used to upgrade Nicholson or Evans. What a waste.
  3. So instead of working on the kid's weaknesses and develop him (lack of muscle and stamina) we get rid of a two time 21 yo rising star nominee, and get Rodan and/or Ray. I'm not thrilled. I hope this does not come back to bite us in 2-3 years.
  4. I don't see Ray as having enough of a 'hurt factor' to justify picking him ahead of developing Taggart or Tynan or even Strauss. I also don't see him bringing in something we badly need in midfield - and that's pace.
  5. Why? St Kilda don't rate him. Western Bulldogs didn't rate him. What makes you think he can be more than just a good ordinary footballer?
  6. I'd be happy with that deal. Unless we could trade Petterd or Bate for him, and retain pick 49. The footage indicates he's mobile, is not a bad kick (better than Rivers or Martin) and has quick hands. Let's hope he can also play football.
  7. It sounds like list managment. The club took a look at all their talls (and assume they get Pederson for pick 49ish) and decided to cut the number 12 tall on their list. He played well in some matches for Casey, but struggled to hold his spot at times. Moving on Sheahan can free up a spot for another promising mid. Hopefully it's a win-win for both parties.
  8. I wish him all the best and thank him for his service, and for playing out of position as a forward for the second half of the year. However i don't think he's a massive loss. He wasn't quick, he wasn't tall enough to be a key defender, he wasn't the greatest gut runner (he finished 2nd last in the 1000m repeat sprints early this year), and his disposal was average at best. He reads the play well and is a good intercepter, but that roll can be covered by Watts or Sellar, with Frawley and McDonald in the key positions.
  9. I've heard that rumour too - that GWS will skip Grundy and take Whitfield, Toumpas and Wines. I'd be surprised if they did not select a possible top ruckman in Grundy, even though they recently re-signed Giles. They seem short of quality and quantity in the ruck division atm.
  10. Did we continue to pay part of Woewoden's contract when he went to Collingwood?
  11. Who would you rather have at pick 20? Chris Dawes, or Quinten Lynch?
  12. Article in The Age says 'Melbourne is understood to have initially proposed a trade of pick 13 for Dawes...but when the Demons traded pick 13 as part of the Jesse Hogan deal last week, it made the negotiations more difficult'. I'm not so sure. We knew very early on on the trading we would swap pick 13 for pick 20. We also needed a big strong 'siege machine' like Dawes to help us break down the oppposition defences, and take pressure off Mitch Clark. Two years ago, after the 2010 GF, we would have needed a lot more than pick 20 to get him from Collingwood. I don't think we would have used pick 13 to get Dawes - at least not on its own. We swapped picks 3 and 13 to get Hogan, Barry, Dawes and Viney at 26. In the absence of hindsight, it sounds like a good deal.
  13. I believe we already had the tallest list in the AFL. We could now end up with 1/3 of our list over 193 cms. Initially i thought - if we are so keen to get Dawes (and possibly Pederson) why give up picks 3 and 13 for another tall in Hogan? However, it seems we deliberately swapped these two 1st round picks for Hogan and pick 20, so that we could secure Dawes as well. We were happy to use pick 20 to get the man from the Woods. Would we have offered pick 13 for him?
  14. From the AFL website this morning - 'The cats are open to trading Mitch Brown'. However the site also reports that Gysberts is no longer in their (Cats) sights. The salary cap may stop Rivers from getting to Geelong too. This guy was a first round pick in the 2008 draft. A possible late second round pick?
  15. There were big raves on Mitch Brown at Sandy in 2008. Better than Watts said some; he's just been very unlucky with injuries. He shot up quickly in height in his final year and was taking marks everywhere for the Dragons. He is listed as 196cm and 85kgs so he still needs a bit of weight.
  16. I think you're right. i got my hopes up too high! I'm tipping we hold pick 4 for a mid in the draft, and use 20 for Dawes (with a few bells and whistles thrown in).
  17. Is that Stevens from the Saints. He looked very good last season. What do they want for him?
  18. He can do a good defensive job - he shut out Pavlich a couple of years ago. But despite his size, (and his ability to get suspended) he does not get the hard ball. He needs to learn to take a hit for his team. He doesn't do enough of that at the moment.
  19. Is Dane Swan an option? Rumoured to want out of Collingwood.
  20. Toy may have had other issues - he had to leave his Vic family early as one of the 12 best 17yos in that compromised draft of 2009. It's possible he hasn't settled in up in the Gold Coast, and is keen to return home. I think all the Vic clubs would take him on, but not as a first round pick.
  21. If you think the 71 GF was bad, check out to replay at Moorabbin in 72. Revenge. Carnage.
  22. Josh Toy. Not in GCS side at the moment. Not on the injury list. Victorian kid. he was a under 17 selection that would have gone at 3 in in the Scully Trengove draft - according to Emma Quayle. Seems out of favour at the moment - maybe we could pick him up with a 2nd round draft pick or lower.
  23. Is Viney still about the same size as last year (178cms) and does he have decent leg speed? Those are the two reasons that some recruiters are marking him down. He's played a big mans game in Junior footy and they are not sure he can replicate that at senior level.
  24. This is confirmed on the Casey's fixture on their website. The original fixture had the Casey match on the Sunday.
  25. The word from the Sandringham camp is that their match verses Casey, which was scheduled for 2pm Sunday 24 June, has been moved to Saturday 23 June at 1pm. It has been moved forward so the match can be televised on ABC1. The venue remains the same - the Trevor Barker oval. This change also removes a fixture clash with the Demons match against GWS that is set down for Sunday 24 June from 3.15pm at the MCG. Looks like we might get two televised MFC matches on the same weekend.
