  1. It would funny watching people back out of everything they've said for years before. I'd absolve him 28 minutes into the last quarter of the Grand Final when we were 13 goals in front.
  2. That goal from the boundary line against Essendon in the 2004 EF... Didn't do much else of note, but I loved him anyway.
  3. The only thing I hate about the early contract signing is that there's no chance for a player to change their mind. If they're doing dodgy backroom deals and negotiations but aren't allowed to sign until a certain point then I'll cop that as 'progress' but I hate the idea of players signing at Round 7 then have second thoughts by the end of the year. Look at Mick Ennis in the NRL, I'm sure that when he got injured in the Prelim and couldn't captain his side to the Grand Final that he'd have considered staying instead of leaving but had no option but to make the most of it and move on. You're right though, the fans mean nothing in all of this. Rapidly losing interest in anything not MFC related.
  4. NRL clubs don't always do it mid-season, one guy announced he was off after Round 1 last year. Shambolic.
  5. He just did the new one at the corner of William/Little Bourke. As it was being built it had a sign with his details and a mobile number, wonder if anyone rang up and wasted his time chatting about footy?
  6. Thanks George, I'm assuming C Harris is Spike but not confirmed yet.
  7. Thanks anyway, I've got info on all the life members (at least a first and last name) except: W. Hislop, W. Murphy, R. Wynd (1945) L. D'Altera (1952) W. Neal (1953) A. Neal (1954 - Possibly Aubrey Neal) M. Hutchins (1961 - Possibly Merv Hutchins) KL Beard (2000 - A trainer in 1975) AJ Gardner (2002) L. Jones (2005 - Possibly Les Jones) JO Smith (2005) C. Harris (2006 - Spike Harris real name?) If anyone has info on these names I'd love to know.
  8. Possibly the longest shot question of all time, but does anyone know what role H. S. (Dave) Stanley at the club? He was a life member as mentioned but I haven't come across anything which explains why.
  9. Friends, it is my pleasure to announce that the results have been certified by our government supervisor and that we have a winner... But first the preliminary matches: In the Survivor Series the Brothers (James McDonald, Anthony McDonald, Gerard Healy and Greg Healy) d. The Unrelated (Glenn Lovett, Brett Lovett, David Williams and Luke Williams) by 120-43 In the Battle Royale your favourite ex-Demon at another club in 2015 was Jared Rivers with 31% of the vote from Stefan Martin (bless you all) with 25% and Scott Thompson with 17%. The third place playoff was an absolute ball-burster, with the Plate Final almost shared as Allen Jakovich nudged David Neitz out by a score of 82-81 And the result you've all been waiting for. In the final, Robert Flower was voted your favourite Demon of the last 50 years after a narrow 83-80 victory over Jim Stynes. Thanks everyone for your support of the tournament and your 2120 votes throughout. For the sake of probity the final results in all matchups can be seen here. See you in January/February for a return to the fourth installment of the traditional Demonbracket format for current players only, and in November 2018 for our next 'all time' ballot #demonbracket54
  10. After that odd interlude into #aleaguechat it's my duty to inform you that the favourites have triumphed in the semi-final, and that the electoral commission has certified the following results Robert Flower 122 (60%) d. David Neitz 81 (40%) Jim Stynes 120 (59%) d. Allen Jakovich 83 (41%) The winners of the special challenge match were The Defenders and Ray Biffin took home the 10 man over the top first round losers battle royale. GRAND FINAL FIXTURE (vote here) #1 seed Robert Flower vs #2 seed Jim Stynes + third place playoff and special challenge matches.
  11. I miss the videos, what I don't miss is trawling the Facebook page for the comments that went along with them.
  12. Yes, but I don't bother looking as long as the vote total isn't massively increased. Not all that concerned by somebody voting once or twice but the peanut who tried to stack it by voting 150 times gave themselves away through lack of subtlety. Anyway, the quarter final votes are in and it's congratulations to the following winners: Robert Flower 107 (65%) d. David Schwarz 57 (35%) David Neitz 146 (89%) d. Jeff White 18 (11%) Allen Jakovich 85 (52%) d. James McDonald 79 (48%) Jim Stynes 128 (78%) d. Todd Viney 36 (22%) Which leaves us with the following semi-finals, with all the bookies pre-tournament favourites still involved. Voting is open from now until 7pm Monday night, with the Grand Final to follow on Tuesday. Robert Flower vs David Neitz Allen Jakovich vs Jim Stynes
  13. Happy with the numbers considering it was held over 1 day rather than 2 (or more for the games that went across weekends).
  14. Round 4 is OVER. Quarter Finals open (vote here won't you?) until 7pm tomorrow night. Results: Robert Flower 153 (96%) d. Brett Lovett 7 (4%) David Schwarz 129 (81%) d. Aaron Davey 31 (19%) David Neitz 110 (69%) d. Garry Lyon 50 (31%) Jeff White 102 (64%) d. Cameron Bruce 58 (36%) James McDonald 133 (83%) d. Greg Healy 27 (17%) Allen Jakovich 89 (56%) d. Russell Robertson 31 (19%) Quarter Finals: Robert Flower vs David Schwarz David Neitz vs Jeff White James McDonald vs Allen Jakovich Todd Viney vs Jim Stynes.
  15. The late great dance troupe were sadly missed in this year's end of year spectacular. Apparently they've gone to Syria to fight with ISIS. Anyway, Round 3 is now closed and you've got 23 hours (until 7pm Thursday) to vote on Round 4. (Updated tournament tree) RESULTS Robert Flower 184 (89%) d. 16. Reminder: Round 3 voting closes at 7pm tonight. The revised schedule for the rest of the competition is: Thursday 20 November - Round 4 (8 matches) Friday 21 November - Quarter Final (4 matches) Monday 24 November - Semi Final (2 matches) Tuesday 25 November - Grand Final (1 match + some novelty undercard events)
  17. Not sure there is any footage of old games kept. They've been kind enought to let me into their archives as part of my research for Demonwiki and it's basically pictures/books/programs/memorabilia etc.. I've never seen any rogue VHS' or film reels in there (unless they're well hidden). They must get this stuff from somewhere for tribute videos and the like but I suspect it has to come from the broadcaster or the AFL rather than our own collection. What they could do is make a playlist out of all the MFC games other people have uploaded and embed it on the website. There are heaps of clips of anywhere between two minutes and entire matches that have been uploaded in various places across YouTube.
  18. And that's it for Round 2 (updated tournament tree). Classified results from the electoral commission are as follows: Robert Flower 205 (97%) d. Clint Bartram 7 (3%) Sean Wight 167 (79%) d. 19. If this is anybody but [everyone who has done this sort of thing a thousand times before] you're stealing my bit.

  21. Not to try and influence my own competition, but I'll be sad if Crosswell loses because he was an epic comedy figure. I remember Johnson showing up and having a whinge when we delisted his average kid
  22. Round 1, Part 3 has now concluded. Updated tournament tree. 23. Might be people less enthused about voting 10 times to try and rort the system. It's a marathon competition so just happy that anyone shows an interest in the early rounds.
