Question - are those numbers his contested possession for SANFL seniors (against men and often playing in an outside role) and at the under 18 champs where he was tagged and not back to his best form after shoulder surgery. I'd like to see his contested possession numbers against players of his own age but then again I don't know how many games Aish has even played of SANFL under 18's in the last 2 years. Might just be bias by recent memory but I think some of the South Australian kids in particular would benefit from less senior footy and more under 18 footy to really develop their game instead of just certain aspects that get focused on when they step up a level. Then again racking up 40 a week in the TAC isn't necessarily right either. I'm sure Tom Boyd would've loved the chance for a few weeks stretch of VFL this year if he wasn't injured.

If we got Michie as well and added a certain best 10 player in Vince as well another in that same category as Michie in Lyon (ie. clearly around our best 22 and at an age to be ready to go with a solid preseason) then I'd certainly be happy to keep pick 2. I'd even consider whether Cross is right for us and probably wait until closer to draft time to think about him. Could come on board in a playing and development coach joint role and that playing could be at Casey not at Melbourne.

Well your question is why does everyone rate Michie considering he's only played 1 AFL game. My argument is why does everyone rate Boyd. Boyd's had injuries as well. Michie was a quality TAC and under 18 champ performer, not to the level of Boyd of course. And his WAFL form was sensation. And he's played under Ross Lyon who doesn't give chances to kids easily. We (Demonland) are talking about potentially trading pick 40 or so for this guy and think he can contribute. If GWS will accept a trade of pick 40 for pick 1 to allow us to get Boyd then that's fine by me.

And his role moved around a lot at Adelaide between half back, wing and half forward as they had Scotty Thompson, Dangerfiled, Van Berlo etc. At Melbourne he'd be the clear number 2 and would surely take pressure from Jones. He's hardly perfect as he's not a gun clearance player or elite runner both ways but considering he'd be replacing Sylvia he would offer similar output at least. As long as we day pay more for the right to get Vince than what we got for Sylvia.

You forget Vince can actually still play AFL, Jamar can't. Would definitely do Vince and Lyons for Sylvia compo if it's mid second round or if its after our second round pick. Would consider Vince and Lyons for Pick 20. Wouldn't want just Vince for pick 20 or him mixed up in pick 2 in any way.

Don't think they'd want Spencer. We could interest them in Fitzy he's clearly better than Martin but I don't think they'd like that. Otherwise Strauss, Blease or Tapscott but their currency is low. They certainly need some players if they lose Docherty, Polec, Longer, Yeo etc, can't just get picks for all of them.

And Jack Steven is the one absolutely untouchable on St Kilda's list. They'd burn the club down if they traded him I think. No to mention if GWS accept pick 2 + Sam Fisher for pick 1 why wouldn't they do pick 3 + Sam Fisher and the saints keep Steven. I'm sure the saints have offered pick 3 and Sam Fisher and I'm sure GWS have knocked it back.

I think he'll take a tonne of development (besides his body) to be a real star though. To me he could be an even better version of Andrew Walker at his best at either end of the ground. He has the speed, size, height and leap to be super good at either half forward, half back or the wing. Not convinced he'll be a Dangerfield though who does it from the centre square, that's the next level. If anyone can develop him into that it will be Sydney, although it will take a few preseasons to get his body right regardless.

Scott's very set on his game plan though. Every chance to get the chop soon if they don't learn how to defend. Hiring Tudor was a good sign. What I think is happening with some of the Malthouse guys are they are trying to get the strict disciplinary style of Mick without getting the runs on the board first. You have to earn respect and Malthouse did that after his years of coaching. They can be as strict as they like (and stricter than Mick even) but they have to ditch the ego and build the respect first.

Look at the hype going over Tom Boyd who's played no AFL games. Michie at least has played 1! But they hype is over the WAFL form and under 18 form and the three years is misleading as he didn't get on the park for the entire first two years.

Nice player. Can find the ball and is a midfielder/forward. Would certainly be happy to get Garry Jnr down. I'd offer pick 40 in this draft for sure. If it's involved in the Polec deal though, Adelaide might like more because I don't see how 40 helps them get Polec really.

There's a delivery factor to this which upsets me. His last rumour - spoke to a mate. Apparently Andrew Walker.... Who was this mate? How does he know internal workings of the carlton or melbourne FC. If you are just reporting other rumours just say so. "Have heard the Andrew Walker rumour" would actually interest me. I'm happy for all rumours but can people just post whether it's reliable, semi reliable, from facebook or something you just made up. That way we get a sense of whats happening and it can be interesting!

Yeah but players are picking the better clubs which then dilutes the trade value. If Taylor Adams said his preferred club was Melbourne on the saints then GWS could have discussions involving picks 2 and 3. Instead he's gone for Collingwood and Geelong and the best they can do is pick 10. It's a joke. You've made it to the AFL. You've been drafted, then after 2 years you think you've earned the right to pick which club you play for just because you want to go home. I don't like it. It's disrespectful to the club who drafted you. You should take all offers from all clubs and if they all want you go to the one that will trade the most for you.

good for us but they won't do it. Pick 40 to pick 30 maybe but to get from 20 to 10 takes a serious player not a spud

I'd be willing to bet we wont be top 4 within 2 years. It's very hard to make top 4 these days from outside the 8 the year previous and we aren't close to making the 8 next year. There's no need to panic about where Hogan is yet. At least wait until this time next year when he's got a year left on his deal but he also has played some AFL on the G under Paul Roos. At that time I think his manager and he will be much more willing to renegotiate a contract extension. They just don't have any negotiating power off VFL performances with 2 years remaining on the deal. The great hope for us is the Freo either win the flag next year or Pav breaks down and retires and they have to replace him next year whilst Hogan still has a year to run on his contract. West Coast are nicely set with Kennedy and Darling for at least the next few years. But the best bargaining tool we can get is winning and mate ship. We start winning and Hogan is still mates with Viney and Toumpas then he wont go anywhere.

We picked up Matt Jones, Terlich and Clisby with mid, late and rookie picks respectively and they played as many if not more good games in one season than Blease and Tapscott ever have. That said this draft is apparently very shallow and picks higher than 40 might not be worth anything. Sometimes it's better to have Tapscott and Blease for one year to see what they can do than 2 years of a draft pick that wont make it and wont contribute any pressure on the best 22. I'd be open to here what other clubs have any interest in a player for player swap particularly for a true midfielder or true goal kicking or pressure small forward. Could we send Tapscott to the Tigers where Hardwick likes solid body players and get Nahas in return. Not that I particularly rate Nahas at all but if Tapscott offers little maybe it's better to take a guy who at least can kick a goal. I'd also listen for pick upgrade trades ie pick 45 for Tapscott and pick 50 that get us back in as early as possible in the draft. Considering we still have plenty more like Magner, Jetta, Nicholson and Bail to potentially move on we don't want a bunch of useless draft picks in all of their places.

The only thing worse than getting Jolly would be not trading Jamar if we got Jolly. However, personally I think Jamar is a likable guy and decent trainer. I'd keep him around if no one wanted to give us anything for him and make him pressure Spencer and Gawn into some reasonable football. And if we want to keep guys like Sylvia in the future the best way to do that is to stop trading away anyone over 30 so it sends a message you can complete a career at Melbourne.

We all want Hannath back and Ross Lyon loves his mature players but I think with Sandilands, Griffin, Clarke and Kepler as a back up they're last on the list for Jamar.

Well they'll look pretty stupid burning out Tom Hickey. If I was them I'd go hard at Longer and have 2 promising developing rucks so they don't overcook either of them. I think they burnt out McEvoy to a degree. I don't think McEvoy is a star but he'll be better sharing ruck and forward duties with Hale. Both a touch undersized but they compete and a very good around the ground and can play forward.
