  2. Looking at the current draft crop and examining our developing list, I believe we need to gain a top class rover-Scully, a top class ruck rover type- Trengove type or Morabito. Furthermore, a fast wingman- Blease, a ruckman-this will depend on the performance of Meeson and Spencer in 2010-however, I feel we could easily buy a marque ruckman in late 2010 for 2011 if needed. I do however see another major requirement being a versatile tall, preferably a forward.Ben Griffiths or Temel would be ideal. Apart from these, I feel if we only have, say four picks for this draft ,this will not disappoint me. What are your thoughts, any other major weaknesses do you see?
  3. Dappa Dan- I WAS ONLY TRYING TO SUPPORT YOUR VIEW
  4. Nick Smith is longtime gone-we are talking current players
  5. Pardon the pun but I think Dangerfield could turn out a freak. He shows the maturity of a 5 year player. WOW- when he gets fit with the stamina to run out 120 minutes of football as a true midfielder. He will become a freak in my opinion. I would have him as our Selection 2. An already proven performer with great upside against an unproven.
  6. What about Brent Maloney,I think he was originally picked as No.4 -2002 draft and then swapped for Jolly as our 15th pick,re the Brad Ottens affair in 2004.
  7. Great article with a nostalgia in the veins. Whispering Jack & George on the Outer. Many thanks for your reports. They have kept me riveted for many years now.
  8. And WOW is he a very good footballer- I rate him as good as Scully was 12 months ago- but very likely to go to Gold Coast
  9. After watching this guy play over the last two weeks- Yes I agree-we definately should look at picking him up .Not only he has a body that can really be developed. He is tall, great penetrating straight kick ,great under th knees and does one thing that John Butcher doesn't seem to do- try his guts out. Hope he can keep his great for going for another two weeks as he has been the matchwinner in the last two.
  10. After watching Gippsland Power go down to Calder Cannons today,I've come to the the conclusion that Butcher will not get drafted in the top 20 let alone No2. The age group seems to have caught up with him now. This is the thoughts of several Gippsland Power followers. He has played pathetically in last two weeks of the finals add to this is his poor performance in the championships and I've reached a conclusion stick to Newton well ahead of Butcher. I would take at least 4 other talls in front of him- Talia, Griffiths, Temel who played well today top of his 8 goals last week and Panos.I think Vardy would also be a better pick up than Butcher. Anyone else whom watched Butcher over the last 6 months surely would agree with me.
  11. Thanks Hannibal for putting me right- Gee it must be a very, very weak draft.Dermie must have Hawthorn's view and that is why they are chasing any legs out of contract. Thank God for McMahon and our experiementing and we have two of those picks. Of to the TAC finals to llok at the current players left-however, on the info above none will be picked up by us. Want to have a look at Carlisle. He didn't do so well last week.
  12. I heard him on SEN late this morning talking about the draft- the radio had bad reception was dropping in and out, but I thought he said that the draft was strong till the 8th pick then drops away. Did anyone else here the interview and can confirm or deny please
  13. I also watched the games and taped the TAC show hosted by Hutchie. I thought your report, like normal, was accurate and interesting. I agree totally re The Protege tag as well as your point of a true rover. A bit like Cable,I thought. I also, however, feel his long kicking needs work. But overall, he'll do me as No1. Thanks Whispering Jack
  14. Far comment regarding Bartram- I think Bartram has good upside- do not forget the year before he came off a knee injury. However, accept your point re Maloney, but as my interchange shows- many could take Bartram's place.
  15. Blease was seen doing laps at Junction Oval last week with some of the injured lads. It is a real pity that we could not get the club- Ryan Phelan to give us an update on all the major injuries from this year- Blease, Garland, Wona ETC. GeeI do hope Blease does not have complications. Hope he has grown from it.
  16. I agree with the majority of you- there is no need to chase him hard. Actually, when you look at our current list, one asks-Do we really need him.? With development, there are several young ones coming on along with McLean, Sylvia, Maloney,McDonald,Bruce,Davey etc.. We have Buckley, Blease, Strauss, Maric, Bennell,Jetta and if we remember Bailey was going to give Wonaeamirri a go in the guts as well.Along with the above, gee ,if we get Scully & possibly Trengrove/Morabito, how many can we play. Are we best to develop what we got in 2010,and trade next year or beyond. I feel we need an experienced tall forward to bring it on. In seeing the skills of Blease and Strauss last year along with at least Scully, this year, we are going to have a bumper mix in the guts.
  17. MY BEST IS: Best team in 2010 is: B: CHENEY WARNOCK MARTIN HB: GARLAND FRAWLEY RIVERS C: GRIMES McLEAN BRUCE HF: GREEN WATTS BATE F: DAVEY JURRAH JAMAR R: MEESON BARTRAM JONES I: SYLVIA PETTERD McNAMARA McDONALD EMERG: BUCKLEY BENNELL WONAEAMIRRI DUNN MALONEY BLEASE STRAUSS. REQUIRE: FAST MIDFIELDER ----- SCULLY RUCK ROVER TYPE ----- TRENGROVE TALL FORWARD ------ TALIA VERSATILE TALL------ GRIFFITHS RUCKMAN------- FITZPATRICK UTILITY----------BURGOYNE OFF LIST: ROBERTSON WHELAN WHEATLEY BELL MILLER JOHNSON.
  18. I know I say on behalf of most posters a sincere thanks for all your work in relaying reports & information to us all during he season. We look forward to your prompt reports next year as I think we will a very strong team and we will be eager to find out how things go.
  19. Surly it depends on alot of factors. Some may say Chook (Brock McLean) is HOT, proven behind the wheel, proven with his gloves. Seaks like Muhamid Ali. Somtimes it is not phsical- it can be adventurous. At least another slant on your topic to discuss.
  20. Firstly Sylus, thanks for letting us know. Agree with your post. I asked him re Watts development- he replied only-Watts was not ready for senior football this year. Whilst we all knew that- WOW ,am I excited re his future. Secondly his comments re Sylvia were very interesting .he stated, Leigh Matthews: On Sylvia - Played very well over the last part of the year when Melbourne looked a lot more competitive. Has always looked like a small-medium player who depends on marking the footy. His improvement will come from becoming a better midfield runner. I am of total agreement, after he does his 2nd proper pre season,he'l explode either in the guts or as a high forward flanker. Could even be a smokie for the Bronlow, if his hair is dyed like Aka,and keeps out of trouble on and off the field-likewise with Chook-Brock McLean..
  21. This question will come to light a little more on the 26th Nov. and completed by end of draft 15th Dec. However, in the meantime, we should have won at least 6/7 games, referring to our experiementation requirements etc.. As we lost two of our most promising recruits in Wonaeamirri and Garland virtually all season along with early major injuries to Jamar, Meeson, Bell and Buckley, this must have put extreme pressure on the whole list.As we all know Spencer was also injured for a reasonable amount of time and Johnson had to ruck solo. I know there is tremendous upside already with natural progression and once we release the abilities of Blease and Strauss. WOW- is all that I can say. I think seriously we can win 8/9 games and press for an eight position on the ladder.
  22. Totally agree with Rhino- DB stated this yesterday. Nothing with be detailed till around the 5th October. We all will have to be patient. However, I feel that their will not be dramatic changes. However, who knows. Doubt if the recruiting panel know as yet either
  23. With the current players list, the beauty that DB has noe after experimenting is he has great flexibility. He can basically play personnel against personnell and not positional play.As stated earlier, the backline has got great candidates,it is the midfield that needs player improvement. With the real chance of grabbing a couple of extremely good midfielders this will help enormously.
  24. I agree with your point of view ,therefore, this may mean that our recruitment panel may consider a tall in our initial picks, and do not take two midfielders, may take a tall and a midfielder as Tim Harrington suggested on the TAC footy show on Sunday..this would then mean we may consider say, Scully, Griffith or another tall as our second pick and our 3rd(18) -another tall midfielder. There are plenty of quality midfielders about re this draft but talls a high premium.
  25. Very good below the knees with a great body to work with and as I said earlier,we have the knowledge on him. If the drafting people do not think he is up to it, they will not select him. Long way to go to November 26th
