So we should, Tarrant is 30 and only wanted to go to one Club, and Freo would have got nothing for him if he went to the draft. We took the only offer we had for Kyle. Obviously the FD don't really rate him otherwise they would have played a bit harder. oh well, it's done now, we move on.

Surely our ability to construct attractive contracts would've allowed us to at least made White open to a chat? Plus I think in the next 2 years we will be passing Sydney. I was right about the Mumford deal last year being one that got away. I have a feeling this could be a similar situation. I just feel that we're not agressive enough. There is a fine line between agressive and stupidity, but again, I can only have faith in our FD. They believe they are able to draft a premiership core, good on them for sticking to it.

Ok, so we free up 1 space, does that mean we have to give players away for next to nothing? We're upgrading our pick 66 to 52, and losing a player. Doesn't look that great on paper, regardless of us needing to free up a space.

I should have said Warnock can match it with the best forwards in the league, which is quite an accurate summary. Would you say Rivers took Warnock's place? I'm not sure I'd agree with that, probably more Garland than Rivers. Regardless, I think Melbourne would be losing out quite a lot if we traded him for Setanta.
-
Interesting to see Sam Jacobs was traded to Adelaide for pick 33 and 67. White and Jacobs will become very similar players under the new interchange system, would be interesting to see who people rate the most. I don't think there's a great deal between the 2, yet some out there still laugh at my trade offer to Sydney.

Carlton had no Key Forward this year, Setanta had ample opportunity to step up and make it his own, yet played 14 games? Warnock's best is up there with any full back in the league, but struggled to get a game toward the end of the season, with his spot taken by an All Australian defender. Can't really see how this is more realistic than my trade offer for White.

I'll ask a similar question that you asked me - why would Melbourne give up Warnock for Setanta?

Assistant Coach Replacement for Sean Wellman
The Chazz replied to dee-luded's topic in Melbourne Demons
Would be an excellent pick up for our backline. Is this something you made up E25? -
I will be getting the new emblem done when we win a flag. At this risk of being sexist, it (the emblem) wouldn't be a great look on a female, would be more suited to a guy. For a female, I think the "M" of that logo would look good on side of a shoulder or on the back of the neck. That's my personal opinion, hope it helps!

Wasn't even a punt. The AFL gave us a list of "replacements" due to the circumstances, and Shannon was the best of a bad lot. Daniel is a freak, his consistency is a concern. At best he is unstoppable, but we don't get to see it that often.

And at what pick would you consider White to be? Personally, given the fact he has been in the system for 4 seasons, and has played 41 games, had some injury concerns, hasn't really shown a great deal of consistency, and the fact that Hale attracted (approx) pick 27 with the runs already on the board, I would seriously rate White as a late 2nd round pick. To add further support to my opinion, the Swans traded pick 28 for Shane Mumford last year. I would probably have Mummy slightly ahead of White at the same stage in their careers. I was keen to get Mumford last year, and look how he turned out for the price. We wouldn't even be worrying about these threads had we got him - imagine having Mumford in the ruck and Jamar at full forward in 2011. We should have been in White's ear about how good he could be in a different Club, and get him to the stage where he wants to leave Sydney, then they would have to listen to our offers. Like the Mumford case, I think the FD have missed an opportunity to get an appropriate player for a reasonable price, but, as I keep saying, I have faith in them, so I'm sure they know what they are doing.
-
Would love to know why you think the Swans wouldn't go for Pick 12 for White, and realistically, what has he (White) done for them to think that a fringe player that didn't have many opportunities in a team that are full of small/medium forwards, as well as a 2nd round draft pick isn't a worthy consideration?
-
Is pick 32 and Cheney a better deal for Sydney for Jesse White and a late one? Sounds like I have this massive man-crush on this bloke, but I just can't see the point in f-ing around with other teams 22 year old project players, when there are a couple out there that might be easily convinced to come to the MFC. It will mean throwing a couple of dollars their way, and might cost us a player and a higher pick, but surely it's safer isn't it? We need a full forward who can play ruck. As a full forward, my expectation is probably a lot less than others - I would be stoked to get 30-40 goals out of them. As a ruck they need to be very competitive. Hale could have been that man, we didn't get him. Jesse White is as close to being a certainty to tick my boxes, especially considering we need that player doing it from round 1, 2011.
-
We are only interested in a KPF who can provide ruck relief, hence chasing Hale. Jacobs is useless as a forward. White is a better forward than ruckman, but can provide such relief. Maric might not have the trade value, but I'm suggesting a 2nd round pick PLUS Maric as some type of sweetener.
-
Happy for you to have an opinion, but why wouldn't Sydney buy that deal? We are giving them a 2nd round pick, plus a player that has obvious ability but never given enough opportunity, who was also a number 21 draft pick and is only 20 years old. Plus they have a proven history of being very open at trade time.
-
So, at the start of the season you thought we deserved only 1 player in the Top 50? Maybe I should have asked you that question at the start of the year.
-
Ok, with only hours until Trade Week finished for another year, what are the final deals that you would like to see come off for the MFC? Be realistic people! Here's mine (as posted under the Jesse White thread); Trade Maric and pick 32 to Sydney, in return we get Jesse White and either their 3rd or 4th round pick. Means we keep/get; Pick 12 (to be used on a midfielder) Jesse White Swans 3rd/4th round pick - used to promote McKenzie Means we lose; Maric Pick 32 With Spencer being promoted, I would delist Paul Johnson, give him the opportunity to nominate for the PSD, but offer him a spot on the rookie list if he doesn't get picked up. This my friends is the perfect last minute trade. Sydney would be crazy to knock it back, considering they got White at pick 79! Thoughts and other realistic last minute deals?

Love this proposal Dee-luded. I would even consider offer Maric and pick 32, for White and one of their later picks (to promote Jordie). This could only be a win for the MFC. While it's good to use picks on kids, what it is actually meaning is out of this draft, we are getting a midfielder (with a lot of potential) at pick 12, a KPF at 32 that isn't a project-type (Jesse White), a project ruckman (Spencer) and a ready-made tackling machine (Jordie) in the 3rd and 4th rounds. The oldest of these blokes is the same age as Chip, so all 4 are well and truly in our perfect age group. If someone said that we don't have to turn up to draft day and offered us the 4 players above, we'd take it and laugh all the way to the bank. This could be our "super draft"! So, dee-luded, let's make plenty of noise so that TH and all the other FD staff read this thread (as you assure us they do), becuase if they can't see the benefit of this deal, then they have NFI! NB - Maric wasn't included in the China team. Hmm...

Will be interesting to see if this eventuates. As much as I like Warnock, I liked your earlier point about trading him for Jacobs and getting Martin to develop his Key Position Defender role. I've been a big fan of Martin being our big forward for ages, but you have turned me! Having thought about your idea, I'd even prefer trading Warnock for Jesse White as he is a proven goal kicker (pretty much averages a goal a game). If it doesn't happen, I'd go back to my Martin for Full Forward role, to play that "Hale" position that we wanted. He will be 24 next season, can do the job as a relief ruck when required, but can still play that deep forward target. While he hasn't really proven himself as a key forward target, if they gave him a KPI of kicking 30 goals a year, I think it's a very achievable target for this guy.

And I think a lot of people need to realise that finding that "nugget" from the VFL (a la JPod and Barlow) is a lot harder than they think. JPod wouldn't have had anywhere near the influence he did had he played for a mid-range club.
-
Was expecting you to be jumping up and down saying we should have more players inside the top 50, considering we won 4 1/2 more games this season than last. You were pretty adamant that we should have had more in Sheehan's preseason Top 50. In regards to the MFC players he selected, I think given the year they had, these blokes deserve their spot in the Top 50. Would think if it were a Top 100 we would have a couple of extra blokes that wouldn't have been in my preseason list. Shows that the team is developing quite well.

That's the joys of having 2 Clubs that are seriously wanting your services. If I were in the same boat as him, I'd be playing both Clubs as hard as I could to get the best deal for my future. The feeling of being in demand overpowers loyalty more often than not. Kind of like when you go to a nightclub and 2 girls would like your services for the night, you flirt with both, get them feeling special, but at some stge one of them will leave alone, the other, well, you know what I'm getting at!!!!

This is the part I'm just confused about. Carlton have been playing Kreuzer since his first year. Admittingly, not all big young guys can come on that quick, but I don't think we have seen the best from Kreuzer yet. My point is that while Max and Jack F are still younf, and a number of years away from their peak, let's pump senior games in to them when they show enough at Casey. From all reports, that could be early 2011 for Jack. With Max, he is 208cm and 104kg. There should be no reason that he can't play a similar role to what was going to be expected of Hale. His main task would be to make a contest, and hopefully if he didn't mark it, at least bring the ball to ground. Surely a guy that stands that high can do that. The difference between he and Hale would be the consistency and the match hardness. I'm not suggesting for one minute that either Jack or Max are our saviours for 2011, but I just can't see the harm in playing either of them earlier, especially as a "stay at home Full Forward" that sneaks it to the ruck at times. Obviously form and fitness are the areas that they need to nail before this can happen.
