Which game was that? If youu're getting flogged, it's hard to get pumped up about anyone kicking a goal, but you just have to find something. It is also vital that when you have momentum that ALL players get invovled in some manner. Doing this helps keep momentum as it puts doubts in the oppositions minds. I think it was early in the last quarter on Saturday when Maric kicked a goal, and there was no celebration whatsoever. Ok, we were getting flogged in play, but on the scoreboard, it was still achievable, but that's an attitude/belief thing. I'm sure Bailey will get the blame for his players not wanting to congratulate their teammates when they kick a goal, it seems he is responsible for everything else.
-
It's because of this attitude that has seen Bailey criticised for a fair while now. He understands the attitude that the older players have, and the culture that they were a part of, and as a result, he has thinned them out as much as he can. Robbo would be a great example of a senior player that you wouldn't want around a club full of kids in my opinion, and Bruce's onfield attitude is/was far from inspiring. I would like to think that with Stynes spending more time with the FD, he will be able to see if their are any cancers remaining (I sincerley don't mean to use that word in the same sentence as Jim). These cancer's are what causes disunity within the playing group and need to be removed ASAP. It does irritate me when I watch Richmond, their young players, while ability-wise I don't think are better than ours, are enjoing their footy so much and as a result are competitive for most of the game. It makes me proud when I see our young guys kick goals, and the senior blokes get around them for that extra lift, sadly it doens't happen anywhere near enough.

That's the point - more from him in 1 quarter. He had the opportunity when he went in to the ruck to perform 2nd efforts like Martin did all day, he didn't do it. No arguement about him offering more than Bate did last week, and as a result Bate was dropped. We have drafted Cook as our "other" tall forward that we need. He may be good, he may not, but one thing is for sure, he's not going to be as bad as Newton. Sadly with Cook, we have to wait, and we all know how much people in here hate that! I still believe Martin can be that tall forward in the mean time, especially when Jamar comes back, and maybe Big Max might have snuck his way in by then? If not this year, will definitely be next.
-
And how did Juice go in the last 3 quarters? Big chance for him to make an impact and show that he has changed, but, like Bate last week, he hasn't. Ok B59, let's have your "match winning" changes. Dunn to pinch hit in the ruck? I find it amusing when I see this happen on the field. Where should Green play to regain form? Full Forward? Casey? What about Flash? Watts? I think I want to know what is going on in your head, but it could be a bit disturbing, so I'll take the punt and read your next post so I can get a true gauge of your thought process.

And I'll take Green out of our equation. Snap. Stats are like Shakira's hips, they don't lie.

Loved that! (In a non-racial way!). Didn't offend me, just know what some of our delicate posters on here are like.
-
Jurrah started on the wing didn't he? Dunn played half back flank? Watts moved to play loose man in defense? Newton rotated from full forward to ruck? Maric played more in the midfield to start, then moved forward later and kicked 3 goals? Not sure how many other changes you wanted to see. I thought with the cattle we had out there, Bailey coached pretty bloody well. Our so called senior players are the ones that need to look in the mirror. And those that are whinging about playing Green up the ground as opposed to forward (like last year). He played many parts of games on the wing last year, it's just that he was so effective when he went forward. This year, he has been very wasteful in front of goal (should be on at least 12 goals for the season = on track for 50 again). It's also a ploy that Bailey would be using to try and help Green get back in to form by playing him near where the ball is so he can get his hands on it. It's up to Brad now. Juice is temporary, the sooner people realise that the better. I'm just glad he's a rookie now, so that he isn't taking a senior spot.

Careful, 45HG will be calling you a racist there Rajon.

100 games for the Nude Nut (the Jones boy)
The Chazz replied to Rocknroll's topic in Melbourne Demons
That pass was sublime. Not many would remember it because they would be too focused on him making a misatke to actually know all the good things he does. The problem with Jones is that he is used as a scapegoat on here, because people are as weak as pi$$ to wake up to reality. Anyone that is still wishing we kept Bruce, Junior and Miller for "leadership" sake - I'm talking to you! But still, you'd rather hang on to blokes that either never could play at that level, blokes that made a major contribution to games lost last year, and blokes that were just to damn old to be considered for another 12 months. -
I find it interesting that most on this site would give their left one for Stynes if he asked us to, and he has continually said that he will wait until the end of the year to determine the appropriate action in regards to our Coach, yet most on this site don't want to do that? Jim knows what he is doing, he has delivered every promise so far, why don't we give him the time that he has asked for? Do you think for one minute that he will sit there and watch all his hard work start crumbling down? As supporters that have seen some tough decades, we should get a grip on reality and know that our senior players are not the top line players we need them to be. These players have always been front runners, and with a team as young as ours, we will see many inconsistent performances for the rest of the year. We need our senior players to bring the kids in to the game when they are down, sadly, it is when the kids are playing well that our senior players stand up. This cannot be blamed on Bailey. He is weeding out that level of player that we have, but imagine if he did it all in one year. We wont win a flag with our older guys being our "headline acts", but I have great confidence, on exposed form, that the young players that have been brought in to the Club over the past 4 years are players that can be at that level that we need. Scully signing will be the most important thing this Club needs to do at year end. I wouldn't be surprised if the ongoing saga is putting doubts in the players minds. Maybe they are asking themselves "if the best young player in the land, who is the ulimate professional, hasn't signed yet, why not?" It's a confidence thing, and unfortunately, it is something out of the control of everyone (except TS himself).

100 games for the Nude Nut (the Jones boy)
The Chazz replied to Rocknroll's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think the continual criticism of Jones on this site is pathetic. He is one guy, in particular this year, that has actually played consistent footy, and is showing some form of leadership when most are crying out for it. Last year he (and Moloney to some degree) started to try and make the players gel off-field, especially the younger guys, so I have great respect for Nathan. Nathan will never be a superstar, and to be honest, we don't need him to be. He has generally been a reliable performer and plays to his strengths well. He has also played some 90% of games possible since his debut, which to me shows that he obviously does the job required of him more often than not (althought the Jones-bashers will say he has played so many becuase we have had no depth). Well done Nathan. -
Further to this, the rookie can only be promoted when there is a Long Term Injury. This is the first opportunity for the year (apart from the Newton scenario) where the Club has had the opportunity to make a promotion. I think Evans is more than ready given his form at Casey, but as you said, they will only promote him when they think he is ready.
-
Sorry DC, I thought you would've been able to tell I knew that already!
-
Rutten is a 27 year old, All Australian defender. I'm delighted Jack only went AWOL for 30 minutes against him. Nick Reiwoldt went AWOL on MOnday night for more than 30 minutes against a worse defender than Rutten!
-
Great post. Sh!t I'd be excited to watch big Maxy make his debut this weekend. Just spewing that I would have to watch it on TV, been waiting for this moment for a while!

I am a strong believer that with the 2 LTI's from this week, that it gives us a great opportunity to promote 1 or 2 rookie listed players to give them the chance to have a taste of senior football. However, some on this site don't agree with this, so thought I'd make a poll to get an idea of what others are thinking. My opinion is that we should promote Michael Evans immediately to replace Grimes (not saying he has to play that role), and I think we leave Spencer's replacement open for the next couple of weeks, with the view of looking at Campbell as his replacement should he start getting some serious game time. Assuming Trengove is still unavailable, I would like to see Evans debut this week. His Casey form has been high class, and most importantly, consistent.
-
What part of Michael Evans' recent form doesn't warrant a rookie promotion, especially now that we have a midfield/half back flanker on the LTI list, and no primary list players showing the form that Evans is at Casey? If, in your opinion, he doesn't deserve such promotion, then what criteria do they have to meet? The rookie list has been created for situations like this, but your not willing to make use of it? there has to be an underlying factor on your thought process - Evans has the best form at Casey, even better than primary listed players, money shouldn't be an issue, especially if he can take that form in to the seniors, would be worth every cent. Let's put it this way, at the start of the year we were able to promote 1 rookie becuase of our veteran status. We chose Juice. Let's play hypotheticals now and pretend we took Evans instead. Given our current injury situation, would you be wanting the Club to promote Newton now? I have no doubt you wouldn't given your stand on the rookie situation, but as a replacement for Spencer, we'd have to consider Juice or Campbell. Oh that's right, we shouldn't promote for the sake of promoting.
-
If I were JT, I'd be arguing that because I was off balance, and had Dangerfield wrapped up in the manner that I did, if I did not turn as much as I did, he would've landed heavily on top of me and potentially caused injury to myself. Dangerfield had the potential to land on Trengove with excessive force, so Duty of Care for himself was the first priority. Grasping at straws???!!!
-
Brilliant! Maybe the injury is worse than first thought?
-
I realise he is coming off a long term injury, but his body would be 100%, match fitness, maybe not so much. I'm asking if Jordie can play at 100% for 80% of a game. If he can, I think it's not a bad idea playing him and then subbiing him off. If he can only play 80% of the game at 80% intensity, there is no way I would risk him. I totally agree about Campbell in terms of fitness, totally disagree at this stage about him being too good and needing him for the last dozen games though! We picked him up as a rookie, and a late pick at that. It was obviously an insurance thing to some degree and more a development person for our young talls. I didn't say we should pick him, I think it's highly unlikely he will get picked, but I wouldn't be surprised if he were to be considered. This is all assuming Martin doesn't get up. If he does, he is an automatic replacement for Jamar.
-
Just being honest! Even the legends of the game had turning points in their career and most took a little bit of time to get there. Just keeping things in perspective!
-
Artie, were you a rookie on an AFL list at some stage and never got promoted?
-
All champion's had a long way to go at some stage.

This is my concern, regardless of the outcome. I know for a fact that the Unpires used to use videos of Brent Moloney as their "examples of rough play", when Beamer first came to Melbourne. As a result, they umpired him out of the game for a good couple of seasons. With Trengove being such a young player, I hope he doesn't find the same happens to him. An incident like this can make him, as well as his teammates, back off slightly in the future. I appreciate all players from all clubs are in the same boat, but when so much publicitiy and emphasis has been made about our lack of blue-collar workers, I just hope it doesn't change the way we play (assuming we can play like we did last week on a regular basis!).
