The "Melbourne" Chant at the end of the game.

Haha my brother and I were doing the Yes! chant after the match. Wasn't quite the same as in New Orleans though. -

Yeah the one thing that annoys me about AFL Members area is that all the Melbourne supporters sit over the other side. Might have to walk around and stand up the back on the wing in the Northern Stand for a couple of games later this year. -

Exactly what I was thinking (yelling to myself) when listening to Mahoney on SEN while driving home. -

Some of the older ones amongst us might be able to confirm but I thought I'd read the chant also used to get used during the Smith years in the 50's/60's? -
And pre-season they're talking about NicNat being worth a million a year. Haha I hope they do sign him to a ridiculous contract like that.

Pretty sure those rankings are taken over the last 40 games or so so 1 good game isn't going to see someone shoot up the rankings. It's a cumulative rank to get greater balance.

I won't be there due to family commitments for Easter, I have lunch with my family then have to catch up with my wife's family later in the day. It really is stupid fixturing by the AFL and I look forward to the day whe we don't get fixtures like this one and Mothers Day. Of all the days when it would be better to have a Sunday night rather than Sunday afternoon/twilight game this is it but the AFL in their infinite wisdom have condemned us to another loss-making fixture.

All the footy media is like this now - they'll focus heavily on the losers with some token comments about the winners. It's in their interests to manufacture or give oxygen to crises and for guys like Hutchison and Barrett it's far easier than analysing the game where they would be caught out for the utter morons they are.

Holding the ball rule is still broken.

From memory he played forward as a junior. Has an awkward kicking style but if they go through doesn't matter. Also provided a leading target pushing through to high half forward to act as a link-up as we worked the ball out of defense. I'm liking the move and was glad Roos didn't panic and throw him back in the first half when Henderson was on top of McDonald. Probably won't last after Hogan comes back but at the moment I think it is a great move and adds some unpredicatability to our team, something we haven't had in a long time.

That's why you bring some guys straight back in, especially when you're struggling in that position. Good on Dawes for forcing the point.

Hope your son enjoyed the win mate, he deserves it. Might shut up some of his mates at school, especially if they barrack for Carlton

We did that often today and were rewarded with free kicks because their players ended up dropping the ball or throwing it. Tackling technique is one of the most under-rated skills in our game.

Viney was a bull out there today I absolutely love that kid. Has pretty good disposal as well, drilled a couple of passes inside 50. And on disposal, you really can't say enough about Nathan Jones and the way he has developed since his debut. Was always a tough player but used to get caught and throw it on the boot too much with up and under kicks. He still gets caught trying to break packs/tackles but generally now because he is trying to find a better option to use. He no longer kicks up and under either, today he drilled a couple of low passes hitting his teammate on the chest. The way he continuously improves on his game, chipping away at his weaknesses makes me proud that he wears the red & navy blue (and sometimes white).

I thought he was pretty poor in the first half, looked like he was going through the motions a bit and constantly led to the ball by Henderson. His second half was great though he read the ball much better, outsmarted/out bustled his opponents and beat some of the smaller guys at ground level.

Don't worry they'll probably have pick 1 anyway bwahahahaha.

Yep I was one who was disappointed with him last weak and canned him - I wasnt happy 5 minutes in but after that he was very good today. He chopped off a number of their kicks by getting in front of the player running at the ball.

Saints Consider Moving Back 'Home', while we just ...
Dr. Gonzo replied to iv'a worn smith's topic in Melbourne Demons
I can't believe you guys didn't know our first flag was won in 1900! Due to our win that year the league altered the finals system because we won after finishing so poorly that (6th with a 6-8 record while Fitzroy finished 1st with an 11-3 record). The entire season was basically thrown out after the H&A rounds and the clubs divided into two groups (1st, 3, 5 & 7; 2nd, 4, 6 & 8) to play a round robin. The teams who finished on top of both divisions (Melbourne & Essendon) then played off in a final and Fitzroy had the right to challenge in a Grand Final due to finishing on top after the H&A. The following year the same "divisional round" was maintained but the wins and losses were just added to the H&A ladder in effect simply creating 3 extra rounds with a final 4 finals system following. There's your history lesson for the day. -

The current Westpac Centre? Would've been late 90's/early 00's - from memory we couldn't afford it. -
Please do. I remember Daniher at the time he was coach was vehemently against have a club psychologist even though I thought it would have helped our mentally fragile guys at the time.

I agree that you need a good culture/standards etc - but our list is in such a diabolical state at the moment that we really do need additional early picks to be competitive in the short term. If that means using the picks as currency to trade out for top line players or guys wth time in the system like Tyson then so be it, but we need some currency; it won't come from our current list and we can't really afford another couple of years being uncompetitive while we turn the list over.
-
Where do we get them from then? No one is going to give them to us for the hell of it. I appreciate what you're saying about the culture/development etc but we still need talented players to work within that culture. No matter how great your culture is it's not going to turn Pedersen into Riewoldt or Terlich into Hodge.

We all appreciate the work you do but no need to be such a [censored].
