I was expecting to see the team with Jetta in and hoping Viney might be back to. As soon as I saw the changes with neither of them in and Bail, Matt Jones and to a lesser extent Grimes it sapped by confidence we could give this a shake. We needed Jetta and Vineys attack on the contest and holding up the play to stop Hawthorns ball movement. The speed of the guys coming in may help if we can get our defensive "structures" right but really I'm not very confident. Hawthorn are still a strong inside team even without Hodge and Lewis and have far too much class on the outside for us. They will punish us with our turnovers, in fact I expect it will be a similar game to last week. Hopefully we can kick the last few again to make the scoreboard look respectable but if it goes the other way this will be very ugly, look at a 120-40 scoreline. I hope I'm wrong.

Maybe because the other 78,565 Jack Watts threads have been shut down by overzealous mods.

If you truly believe that Melbourne supporters want to see Watts fail then you're even more of a headcase than he is.

Terrible idea. There are a number of ways to improve on the compromised fixture, this is not one of them. It just substitutes one terrible system for another.

I dont know if you're confusing me with someone else but I've hardly commented on Watts for the last year or so. Probably a couple of time since the Adelaide game and in this thread but not to the extent you're making out. Either contribute to the conversation about our team and players or dont bother.

Bull [censored]!! No one enjoys seeing Watts fail (no Melbourne supporters anyway). We are all just so frustrated that he has the talent but not the application - its all in his head, the best thing he could probably do is go on a "trip" (psychedelic style) to find himself and strengthen his mindset. I've never seen anyone so weak minded play for the MFC and possibly the AFL.

No never shout out stuff like that about our players at games - not individually anyway I'm sure I lost it with the team as a whole at several points over the last few years. Why? I didn't realise there was a special "Watts clause" where every other player is subject to scrutiny but he is somehow off limits. He is so frustrating because he has the talent but is probably the softest player I've ever seen pull on the Melbourne jumper. You just want someone to grab him by throat Leppa style and shake him til he sees red.

If it was either TB4 or the mysterious "something else" surely it's up to Essendon to provide an answer to what that "something else" is and provide enough evidence of what it was to convince the tribunal. In the absence of being able to prove what it was they should be slugged just as hard as if it was shown to be a non approved or banned substance. It is incredulous to think that the tribunal would find them not guilty without having any idea what was actually injected into the players. In this sense the burden of proof should fall back on the accused - if we want to ensure a clean sport.

I agree - really unhappy with these selections and the selections over the past few weeks. Yeah I know you have to set standards but there's also an element of having played two of the best teams in the comp and just not being up to it. We need a settled team and for the players to be backed in by the coaches as well as getting experience. Michie should never have been dropped. Newton should not be dropped - he's only played about 10 games! Watts has been rightfully dropped. Howe is lucky to still get a game. Pedersen should not be dropped. Give him Watts' role as the third leading forward with Dawes coming up to high half forward and let Hogan sit back closer to goal or leading back to the empty paddock in front of goal (Pagans Paddock). The multiple changes the last couple of weeks have a touch of panic about them. Bail, M Jones, Grimes - three absolute butchers against the team who absolutely kills you on the rebound with their skill. We need to have physical players in this week to pressure the Hawks like we did the Crows - these three will not be doing that.

If that's true the levels of delusion/outright lying are beyond comprehension. Give me a few minutes and I'll provide the evidence in question (just gotta make sure there's a big "THYMOMODULIN" heading along the top of the spreadsheet.) The 360 interview was great - when he first came in I thought here we go, more Essendon PR via NewsCorp but as it went on Whateley really started to grill him. Not sure that's what he was expecting, his face genuinely reddened at several points particularly when Whateley pulled him up on the "tribunal found the players innocent" lie.
-
Someone on BF said it's because Whateley likes to back a winning horse and I think there's truth in that. As well as the factors you've mentioned.
-
Oh definitely - how do players at other clubs go from boys to men in two seasons while the ones we draft stay skinny runts well into their twenties?
-
It's in the Hun now anyway - you know the same paper who previously named some of the players and then blamed the AFL/ASADA for leaking them to them and has gone on and on about the players and their privacy.
-
Whateley redeemed himself for me tonight. That bit about ASADA destroying the spreadsheets is the height of ridiculousness. The guy is either a compulsive liar (possibly) or outright delusional (probably).
-
The evidence will likely be the same - so there's not going to be any smoking gun proof of cheating. There will be a decision as to whether the arbiters are comfortably satisfied a doping violation occurred. However this will he based on a subjective assessment just as the AFL Tribunal was based on the same evidence.
-
The media is compliant and pushing an agenda. The only journos who have done good work on this story are the non-footy investigative journos Baker and Mackenzie at Fairfax.
-
He was quoted as saying they didn't plan for this "what if" scenario as they thought it was over. What sort of governance is that! Bunch of arrogant idiots I really hope they get smashed the only worry is how long this will take to play out - another season with no result.
-
Hawthorn and Geelong have supplanted them (for now).

Yep I'm on record as saying I wanted Sheed or Freeman but the club has really nailed this one. Salem will be a gun and is close to my favourite player.

He already knows how to use his body brilliantly. A number of other players could take lessons from him.
