  1. I think he'd compliment our contested ball winners well.
  2. Hoskin-Elliot may be worth a look?
  3. Can we package up some later picks for a top 10 pick again to one of the Academy clubs? Could then use that as currency in a trade for Prestia. Not sure who else is available (other than Hibberd). Tomlinson could be a tall defender/swingman option but he's been playing wing and getting games for GWS recently.
  4. How many byes do they have in the VFL? Time to just have a proper reserves comp it stifles development and team selection.
  5. I dont think so. If we finish on 10/11 and then win 15 next year I think that would show great development across Roos' tenure especially with the amount of list turnover. If we win 10 and then 10 again next year I would be disappointed. I think we'll finish up between 10-12 wins and just miss finals which was my prediction at the start of the year.
  6. Ha that's where I began to notice how good he was as well especially in 2013.
  7. Dermie says everything with the arrogance of an omniscient deity. That's why it's so funny when he's so often wrong.
  8. It's infrastructure- that's why we (some of us) pay taxes. To build the nation's infrastructure.
  9. Because the monthly price is a complete rort.
  10. Not sure if its been mentioned but apparently the MCG car park will be closed on Monday so those driving in will need to figure out alternate parking options.
  11. Sunday twilight is the worst when you have two young kids at home - not home in time to help out with getting them ready for bed/dinner etc and then have to work the next day as well. I'll generally watch these ones on TV, as far as I'm concerned the AFL is scheduling these games for TV audiences so they then can't complain that people opt to watch them on TV rather than go to the game. Especially outdoors in the middle of winter in front of a generally small crowd.
  12. I don't think anyone's moaning, just having a discussion.
  13. I agree with this logic but am also wary that it is the same logic that brought us undone under Bailey.
  14. I took my son to Playtime a couple of months ago and it was a bit disconcerting how much the flashing lights and loud noises reminded me of the pokies floor at Crown. Just trying to hook 'em while their young. I've also heard that pokie machines in Vic pay out less than the ones in Vegas for example. The Vic ones are programmed to win 92% of the time while the ones in Vegas are 88% (something like that anyway). I can understand playing cards, roulette etc because there is an element of chance and strategy - but with pokies you are literally feeding money into a computer that is programmed to win. I cannot understand anyone who does it. As a "social experiment" I performed once while drunk I wanted to see how quickly I could lose $100 in the pokies while I went to the local to pick up some more booze. It wouldn't have even been 30 seconds playing max lines/max dollars before by $100 was gone. It's crazy that 1) it's legal and 2) people get sucked in to handing their money over to the "one armed bandits"
  15. And they'll continue to do so in government benefits and other miscellaneous subsidies for those who are now out of work.
  16. Perfect example of indoctrinated ideology. "Free market works best" is just a faith-based sound bite that is not supported by any evidence, just like "trickle down economics" and "Jesus will return". It's not about making an "industry" work, it's about making an economy and society work. It seems it's only OK for government and taxpayers to make certain industries work but not others.
  17. We "couldn't compete with Asia" because the government signed our sovereignty away and removed the protections we had created for these local industries.
  18. Not sure all 17 are - are the WA clubs allowed to have pokies, I thought it was banned in WA? Realistically they should ban them again, they not only drain pensions back from those who can't afford it and create financial, mental health, family and domestic violence issues they also turn what used to be great community centres with live music into wastelands. BUt while they're legal I'd rather the MFC profit from them than Bruce Mathieson or whoever else owns the things.
  19. Yeah he was greatly underrated in his last couple of years at MFC and the wider footy community didn't realise what a bargain the Hawks were getting and what we were losing. Unfortunately his attitude at the Demons in his last 2 years showed he didn't want to hang around and could you really blame him considering what he'd been through with us? Roughead was on the Junktime podcast earlier this year and said while he's been at the Hawks for over a decade he's had one coach. Frawley after moving to the Hawks has had 9 since 2007 (Daniher, Riley, Bailey, Viney, Neeld, Craig, Roos, Clarkson, Bolton)
  20. Nah was very confident both Frawley and Howe were goner. Think Howe was pushed as much as jumped to be honest.
  21. Nothing but gut feeling but I don't think he's leaving, not anytime soon at least. I had a bad feeling about Scully from the moment he gave that preseason press conference but this one I'm pretty confident about .
  22. On one hand it's disgusting and a disgrace and extremely cynical placing these machines in poorer communities. On the other hand they are legal and if anyone's going to profit off them it might as well be footy clubs. Avoiding reinvesting the money into the community by claiming it on upgrades to facilities is ridiculous but no more so than the various other tax rorts.
  23. Put the onus on them to perform or they're out. Fear can be a great motivator.
  24. I agree with yoiur first paragraph but not the second. Wouldn't mind seeing BK & ANB in for Harmes and Kent - tell them they will be measured on their pressure acts/tackles. Put the pressure on for spots with the half forward flankers, as a group they've let us down a few times this year.
