What do you suggest the Match Committee do this week if you think Oscar should be dropped? -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY
Dr. Gonzo replied to DemonLad5's topic in Melbourne Demons
Didn't Hurley recommit to the Bombers last year? Pretty sure he's tied up -
That's because you've got Jack Watts blinkers on where any negative comment directed towards him is somehow evidence of him being targeted or scapegoated
-
Supporters need a focus to direct their anger/frustration and other negative emotions towards, it's easier than critical analysis. It's like the 2 minutes if hate against Goldstein in 1984, visceral projection.
-
He wasn't tall/strong enough to just go 1:1 and wear him like a glove. He had to be smarter and try and read the play to make his own run at the ball.
-
1 point loss to Geelong, 3 point loss to the Bulldogs, 5 point loss to Freo, absolutely demolished the undefeated Crows. Yeah, a rabble
-
Lyon on SEN this morning said that if he were Todd Viney he'd be heavily targeting May from GC - we don't have a gorilla backman and get caned by these tall guys over and again (lucky Daniher couldn't kick straight)
-
He hasn't been singled out and he was one of our worst. I haven't seen any unfair or unwarranted criticism.
-
North aren't rubbish, they're good when on their game and had a distinct advantage in the ruck/midfield today as well as in the key forward positions. They put 10 goals on the Crows in one quarter, you reckon that's rubbish? There's only one rubbish team in the comp at the moment and that's the Lions. Even then they can put it together in patches like their game against the Dogs (which they ultimately lost) Edit - North lost to the Cats by 1 point, to the Dogs by 3 points - they're not rubbish.
-
The criticism is warranted he's been poor the last few weeks.

Free Kick Against Christian Salem in the last quarter
Dr. Gonzo replied to solly21's topic in Melbourne Demons
There's been mention Salem could be in trouble for an elbow to the head, is it for that incident? -
That's a problem with your perception/expectation rather than the team's performance. "Line in the sand" games make for good narratives for the talk shows and journos but in reality things are not so black and white. It's the trajectory that matters and we are still on the right path with a good group of young competitive beasts. Hopefully they pay no heed to bipolar emotions of the support base who are mentally scarred from decades of following the club.

Oh please
-
Put some money on it, at least you'll have a full wallet if nothing else
-
Ok I'm angry. Now what.
-
To be honest I didn't really notice much of that but I was sitting on the southern stand wing close to the fence. Will try and take note on the replay if I can stomach watching it. Even so, that's one player, not indicative of the whole team playing with no intensity or effort.
-
I agree, part of that is learning to wrest the game back onto our terms. That will come with maturity
-
Care to extrapolate
-
Haha get a grip. You read one quote from a press conference with no context whatsoever and extrapolate that Goodwin has been defeated. Not one for hyperbole, eh?
-
Don't hold your breath

Swallow was basically hugging Oliver at the centre bounces. They were scragging him non stop.
-
Bit tough on OMac I thought he did as well as could be expected. He shouldn't have been on Brown, it should've been Frost. That's not his fault. Only reason I can think is they wanted Frost further up the ground to create run through half back while Brown was sitting deep around 10-15m out from goal.
-
What can we do? Stick him in the goal square to take a defender out of the play?
-
Good post. Tarrant, Thompson, Hansen, Goldstein, Brown, Waite - they're were just too tall for us. The point about our small forwards being taken out of the contest due to a lack of balls brought to ground is a good one too, they were all ineffectual (bar Hannan who played tall).
-
Roughead and Boyd are still capable of playing ruck and competing.
