  1. True, but who's going to call them for it? Part of the problem is that monitoring & accountability etc has been virtually non-existent until recently. You are probably aware too of the potential to link it with other scams. The rewards are potentially huge, and the chance of being caught has been tiny. The virtues of deregulation!
  2. Wouldn't it be better if the players get off lightly and the club gets eviscerated? Especially if "The whole drama was the club's fault, not that of any individual player," as Tanner says.
  3. What I like is that we're putting together a really balanced multifaceted midfield. They're not all extractors, or receivers, or bulls, or gut-runners. It's the midfield as a unit, not any single midfielder that's the key. Having said that, the one thing it probably does lack is speed, but it's possible to make up for that with quick ball movement. Which would also be a welcome change.
  4. Thanks all. Yet again, great to get different perspectives. And if anyone puts you down because it was all too positive ... just ignore 'em!
  5. Possibly the most predictable press release since Henry VIII gave his 5th wife the chop! Fantastic effort Chunk. At this stage it's looking like he's got the job sewn up for the next few years.
  6. Mine neither Ern.
  7. Sorry C&B, I'm also with Bob here, and with those he's supporting. Nobody has said that he should be punished as if he actually had stabbed her, or killed her, which he apparently threatened. One poster made the point that in some circumstances the threat of violent assault can have similar psychological effects as if the assault had actually occurred. But that's not the same. Another poster made the point that the line between threatening to assault and actually carrying it out can be very fine, especially in someone who's intoxicated. But that's not the same either. Both of them are very good points. A number of us have a problem that you're giving the impression of wanting to minimise what he did. That may not be the impression you want to give, but that's what's coming across loud and clear. Mainly because you seem to want to hammer the point again and again and again. If you don't want to keep giving the impression that you're trying to trivialise Dusty's actions, then it's wise to top hammering this point.
  8. Is it right to assume that the majority of male victims of partner violence are in same-sex relationships i.e. the perpetrator is male?
  9. Those remaining on our list from 2009: Jones Watts Trengove Gawn Dunn Garland Grimes Spencer Jetta. Yikes. Up to 4 or 5 of them could go at EOS next year too.
  10. Spot on - great Pete'n'Dud movie.
  11. Still a concern that just over 1 in 4 don't think he should be suspended. Maybe some of those think there should be other sanctions (e.g. fine) or that the AFL or police should punish him. But that still must leave too many that don't see anything wrong with what he did.
  12. ... and if he gets anywhere near 100, it will indicate that we've significantly improved our delivery to him. But you're right, that's the only way it's going to happen. He did fantastically well last season to get 44 goals from the crep way we got the ball down to him. We should be able to give him heaps more uncontested marks, so that he doesn't have to just rely on his amazing ability with contested marks.
  13. Hmmm ... I'll try another one. "The AFL makes a mockery of integrity". Maybe the new software has derision-sensitive text!
  14. Agree OD. I'm thinking that perhaps the reason why some of us are a bit jumpy about this is that we can just about see the wet lettuce leaf being brandished. There may not be as much angst over this if it were possible to have faith in the integrity of.* The AFL and that he would receive a fitting penalty. (* Have to use a full stop because the words "integrity" and "AFL" can't go in the same sentence)
  15. M., I know what you're trying to say. And violent behaviour is wrong no matter who is on the receiving end. But the gender of the person on the receiving end is very much the issue in this particular situation, of equal or greater weight to the behaviour. You'd do yourself a huge favour if you weren't giving us all the impression of trying so hard to minimize the gender issue. Maybe that's not what you're meaning to do, but the fact that you come back post after post really does create that impression.
  16. Welcome to the nuthouse. Are you gonna continue to be KJ's "straight man"?
  17. Yep. It only takes one sort-of-friendly interview.
  18. But Ern, hasn't he owned up to the "alleged" behaviour by his "apology"??? You've got a point - the calls for castration probably are a tad OTT. But what makes me nauseated is that nothing said so far by RFC or AFL seems genuine, it's all heavily "managed". The spin doctors have centre stage. That old thing about "AFL" and. "Integrity" don't belong in the same sentence. If we have to rely on KB to be the one who's "tellin' it like it is", it's beyond bad.
  19. I'd like to think that the woman wasn't put under any pressure to accept the crisis-managed PR-contrived apology.
  20. I really think we just need to tighten up a few things about our performance (and to have a reasonable run with injuries to key players) to get quite a few more wins.
  21. Based on some of last season's results, there's probably more chance of the team turning up on a Friday than on a Saturday.
  22. Kerry Packer after the crow impression.
  23. Yeah fair enough. Let's face it, he's had major surgery on each of his ankles a year or two apart. I guess the main questions are how well he'll recover from the surgery, and whether he's going to be susceptible to further injuries. If he recovers well & avoids further serious injury, the ceiling is very high, especially in combo with Hogan. Or he could be Gumbleton Mk.II.
  24. If a tall player was coming back after ankle surgery ... ... could that perhaps influence his speed and turning circle?
