  1. Bit disappointed that ANB & even Terlich miss out for the second week.
  2. Pretty sure it was Hartlett later in the game who dragged Tyson backwards while he was on his knees, causing him to grab his knee & have to go off for a while. Again, a deliberate & unnecessary movement that could have caused a serious injury (or aggravated an existing one, given Tyson's history of knee injuries) by hyperflexing the knee. Have to keep a closer eye on Hartlett. As Nutbeam pointed out originally, this sort of thing doesn't get the attention that sling tackles do, but could involve just as much risk of serious injury.
  3. They just don't have the advantage of all the catastrophizing that we get from DL.
  4. There was a huge improvement in breaking away from congestion, and transitioning from contested to uncontested ball. Viney was the main one responsible for this, though it's very much a team thing where you need players running past on the edge of the congestion, and the clearance specialist prepared to wait & look for the "give" rather than just blast it aimlessly upfield. Perhaps it's just getting the most team value out of Viney's undoubted talent at winning contested ball.
  5. Agree with this, and it was the same player who tackled Brayshaw at the beginning of the game - Hartlett, who was beaten to the ball on both occasions. For both these tackles, he made a second movement that was unnecessary in terms of the effectiveness of the tackle, but could have caused two serious knee injuries. As you say, it's the "inconsistency" - in terms of tackles designed to hurt and not dispossess, and that could have caused serious injuries though they didn't (hopefully) - that's the problem. Until, perhaps, someone sues the AFL for a serious leg or arm injury caused by such a tackle.
  6. Yeah, why was Wines so crep on Saturday? Was he ill? Was Viney tagging him? Must have been one of the least effective games he's played, just never seemed to get into it.
  7. At one stage in the 2nd quarter Port were 30 points up - 50 to 20. We "just" beat them by 19, but before Boak got 2 junk-time goals, it was a 10-goal turnaround. And interstate. Not wanting to get carried away, and more than happy for Tiges & Pies to get all the plaudits for now. But signs are good so far. .
  8. Agree with the post overall, but it wouldn't matter if he was Usain Bolt if a 30m pass misses him by 5m. But he could really benefit from the low hard passing we've been hearing about in training reports.
  9. Pick the name of an Adelaide boy and fill in the gaps ... Same rumour, different name And why wouldn't they all be homesick for Adelaide?
  10. It's just that with Barrett it's effortless. The rest of us have to work at it!

    Jack Grimes

Grimes just has to go with his first option. It's when he thinks twice about his first option that he dithers and turns it over. If he can sort that out, he's best 22. There's probably less of a chance of him thinking twice if he's more forward. And if he does think twice, he's always got the "bomb it to Jesse" option.
  12. Thanks to the trepid ones too!!
  13. This is a momentous statement that hasn't received the fanfare it deserves!!
  14. Had something dashing through my guts at about 1.45am. Didn't help my sleep. Don't think it was Gus though. Unless he's changed a lot ...
  15. It's a training thread! They all weird up sooner or later. This one's just getting in earlier than most.
  16. If it was a mistake, then what the hell were you guys watching at 1.45am??? (and I use the word "watching" in the euphemistic sense)
  17. I was thinking more of the werewolf & zombie crowd. The Demons would be the natural club to support for the undead. They embody our "never-say-die" spirit. A part of our supporter group we don't often get to see.
  18. Is it a full moon?
  19. About one great quarter IIRC.
  20. Agree with this, in addition to kicking goals. You want him to be one of those (like Salem) who's delivering a lot of ball into the forward 50 as well as kicking some decent goals himself. That last ball into F50 is one thing that the team really needs to improve. Hogan et al need to get far more than the usual mere handful of good F50 entries every game.
  21. It's Addam Maric, not Bennell - they're supposed to be top 20 picks. That's one of those useless pieces of knowledge that, no matter how hard I try to evict it from my memory, it just keeps on squatting there, taking up the room that could be used by something vitally important..
  22. Massive early bid for POTY.
  23. Wow, it looks so ... erm ... interesting!! And not a person in sight!
  24. We need to get the important transitions right - transition from defence to attack, transition from contested ball to uncontested ball, and transition from midfield into F50. We need to practice them with our A-team players in combinations, and we need to practice them against an opposition that is hell-bent on stopping us doing what we want to do and will pressure us all the way. That can't be done in intraclub. And yes, it will probably take most of the season to get it anywhere near right. But the practice matches are a chance to at least get some of the pieces into place.
  25. You do realise that "degree in Welfare" and "player welfare" are totally different things? And what the hell is a "degree in wellbeing"? Doesn't "midwifery" fit in here??? Yeh, it's fun playing the curmudgeon, isn't it ... raising silly objections and then hammering them for another few posts, just for the attention it gets you.
