  1. Well if he plays a full season and kicks 60 odd goals he will just about be the hottest property in footy.  But Jeez he didn't put any speculation to bed did he?

    Spot on.

I think one of the biggest concerns through this trade period is not being able to address our midfield depth at all. It's very thin on paper.

We've just moved on Jordon and Harmes who were both the 23rd and 24th player that were ready to step in when either a Oliver, Brayshaw or Viney had to miss games. Even Luke Dunstan retiring leaves us further lacking in this department.

Right now, the next best available option is Woewodin and that's it. Brayshaw is one hit away from potential retirement and Viney will be 30 next year. Then there is the obvious concerns with Oliver as well.

I don't ever see Sparrow ever being a top line midfielder and I think at best he's just an honest battler who's happy to fill in gaps when Petracca and the likes need a breather.

Was hoping we'd go after a mature age ruck to at least just have in the background. If Gawn goes down then it's left to Fullarton who's not even a genuine ruckman but more a forward, and then a 19 year old Will Varrell.

I think we will find improvement from hopefully having access to fit forwards (Petty, Fritta) and another year under the belt of JVR.

But that might be off set by not doing anything to address our poor skill level through the midfield (Billings, Duursma or Gresham might have been interesting to look at).  Perhaps something is in the works over the next day or so.  Perhaps they might use Kozzi in the midfield a little bit more next year.

  3. Hunt always had a real crack, and seemed like a great clubman. He never quite seemed to recapture the form he showed before getting knocked out in a crows game.

    Good luck to him.

His footy was definitely better than his drawing though 😂

  4. We are dying a death of 1000 cuts this year.  The little things that went for us last year, are going against us this year.

    - Injury

    - Covid

    - Unstable side

    - Steven May incident

    - Loading Fatigue

    - General Fatigue

    - Being the hunted

    Courageous!!! That's for sure.

I remember him repeatedly standing "in the hole" with Lockett and a pack coming flat out, knees in the back, to "make him pay".

Very skilled, great mark for his size , and an accurate passer, and shot for goal.

Remember that inspiring 50m. kick off the ground into the forward line, in that semi final v the Swans in 1987?

I played golf with him a couple of times, and he hit it like a pro.

Only the best memories of Sean Wight.

He is remembered at the Heritage Golf club with this plaque for an albatross!

    Do you mean like Brisbane?

The team who were top of the ladder, have now lost 3 of their last five, were appalling in their low scoring, mistake ridden win over the saints who were down to one on the bench for the ladt quarter, and just got smashed but 10 us goals?

@binmanDees were excellent tonight, but I also thought we were on the end of "reverse loading".  ie Brisbane might be going through their own high intensity training.  Brisbane barely got out of a walk after half time and were absolutely cooked - we should have won by 100+ points.

I wonder if we tapered off for the last week or so given we had lost 3 in a row, had lots of key injuries and external issues (ie May).  Goodwin and Yze definitely used the words "refresh" in the media this week.  The result suggests we did.  If we did taper off, what affect does that have on us down the track?

The return game will be very interesting.

I'm not convinced that loading is the issue.

Here's where I am on the MFCSS scale.

Well you could be right, last season was a very long one, and while we breezed through our finals, by all reports we trained HARD in those six weeks in Adelaide/Perth.  We could just be out of puff.  Time will tell.

The effect of having an unsettled side is underestimated.  The ins/outs this year is no comparison to last year.  It's quite extraordinary that we got to 10-0.

But my theory is they did so, not so much to conserve energy for an assault in the last, but to conserve energy full stop.

By that I mean, you could see they were gassed.

Yup trying to conserve full stop.  At the ground it's very obvious in the last 3 games that we have been running on the spot in the second half.  And it triggers a knock on that affects everything we are trying do.

Petracca has looked gassed for a while, he must be carrying something, last year no one could stop him with a tackle, he's getting caught all the time now.

    An interesting month ahead.

  9. @binman A perfect storm of loading, an unsettled side and punch ons in french restaurants has appeared to beleaguer the club.  Did you notice in the third quarter we seemed to really want to ice the clock (short passes)? I also noticed that Gawn was warming up on the bench toward the end of the third term, but then as we managed to hold the pies at that point he went back to sitting on the bench.  Would it be a fair observation to say that we were trying to hold Collingwood in that 3rd quarter for a last roll of the dice in the last?

Loading, loading, loading.  We have a hard run home, hopefully this calculated program pays off
