  1. I was at the 64 Premiership and have MFC 16 number plates because of John Townsend who played in that Final. Our latest number 16 Dean Kent looks like he could be a player in the ilk of John Townsend and help us towards that next elusive premiership before those of us that can remember pass on.

  3. Was he smarter then Eddie Wouldnt be hard would it?

Other channel. Played well. You need to be quick.

    He played 20 games for Melbourne '89 - '92 & 45 games for Richmond '93 - '96

  4. Take note "Chip" Frawley. “I wasn't chasing dreams of Grand Finals - it was about what we were doing together as a group, in a place you wanted to be in, that was the Melbourne Football Club” Robbie Flower

  5. Not sure if Weightman was joking but he referred to watching Davey playing a game in the VFL this year.

Davey plays for Richmond's VFL side. He also has a segment on Marngrook every week with Nathan Lovett-Murray where they go out & visit & interview former players.

  6. Currently 6 grandchildren. Unfortunately first 3 barrack for #?*!wood. One of them keeps sprouting all sorts of rubbish at me but I just silence him by reminding him that Melbourne has beaten Collingwood 6 times in Grand Finals. Usually works. Still working on the other 3 - a bit young to choose yet.

  7. I was there as a 17 yr old with my 13 yr old brother. Front row Southern stand about Bay 13. 15 yr old brother slept outside the MCG for 3 nights to buy series tickets. (Any excuse to get out of school). The only way to be sure of a Grand Final ticket. Sadly it was the last game I saw for 20 years as I took a Saturday job working in the TAB and as footy was only played on Saturday in those days, for the sake of family finances I gave up footy. Happy to say I am now in my 31st consecutive year of membership and looking forward to that next elusive premiership.

  8. cant understand why injured players are not part of this weekend

nice write up about your experience

but for the life of me ,players under contract are a valuable asset to the club

my daughter and i spent the day amongst a big crowd of 10,000 at the G one day

went up to the bar and waiters had glum looks on thier faces because of a boring game and no patrons to serve,i asked the doorman "been busy mate",your the 3rd person weve seen was the reply

my country attitude got the better of me and when i suggested what would business be like if an injured player or 2 gave a talk at half time and prematch, that would be wonderful and might even get people here he replied

my daughter wrote to the club and suggested on the bad crowd days ,"why arent injured and non playing personal maybe manning the front entrance and talking to the kids that do show up.no reply forthcoming at this stage

same with your darwin trip, wouldnt a BBQ be enjoyable with a senoir player on hand to explain a few myths away to supporters and generally give aspeech ,sign a few autos and make all the fly in fans feel welcome

    just my thoughts

Because they are busy rehabbing their bodies so they are fit to play sooner, as opposed to going on a junket?

    [/quote

Last year Robbo & a couple of injured players - Mark Jamar & a couple of others went up early and did clinics in Alice Springs & elsewhere along the way. Even had a small problem in their chartered light plane having to make an emergency landing.

  9. He reeks of something that's for sure.

He was at the club for NINE years, and he cracked the top10 of the BnF ONCE, when came 7th in 2008. How can you be considered a good leader if you vastly underperform year in, year out.

If a player who is drafted at No 50 "underperforms" when he doesn't crack the top ten, then we have 34 players each year that don't crack the top ten & "underperform".

Players can play to the best of their ability & finish 20th in the B & F without "underperfotming"

  10. Hey all,

I've lurked around this site and 'ology for couple of years now, never really felt like I had anything to add.

My 5 year old is also battling cancer and was lucky enough to receive a visit from Col Sylvia a few weeks ago. Col was great and spent well over an hour with Seb, never seemed rushed or gave any indications that he would want to be anywhere else. Seb had already been through several rounds of Neuro surgery that week but was all smiles that day.

In conversation Seb admitted that his favourite player was not Colin, but Jack Watts. Upon hearing this Colin personally organised for Jack to come in the following week.

Jack again spent well over an hour with Seb, at a time he was plugged into a dialysis machine harvesting his stem cells. Again there were smiles in a most difficult time. Jack was also very honest and spoke candidly about his relationship with Neeld, who had already been dismissed.

Both players demonstrated to me that they carry enormous compassion and to lose either would have a real negative impact on Off the field as much as on. After these recent experiences it makes me sad to read so many posters on here so keen to cut them adrift

I have seen Jack Watts on many occasions running out holding hands with the "mascot of the day" and occasionally turning around to pick them up when they have fallen over after running through the banner. He is a really caring person, especially with the smaller kids. He has the right attitude & a lot of time for the supporters. All he needs is the right coach to get his game sorted out. I would hate to lose him from the club.

  11. If Magner gets delisted (and if they're not going to play him, why keep a spot on the list for him), I genuinely hope another club drafts him and he tears it up. I don't see how he's any less effective than Beamer as an inside, see-the-ball-get-the-ball-pound-the-thing-vaguely-forwards kind of player. Beamer is good enough at that to be one of the better players in a midfield nearly good enough for the eight, so I can't see why Magner isn't good enough at it for the worst midfield in the league.

Melbourne has a history of delisting the leading vote getter in the secondary competition, with one player famously saying at the Bluey Truscott while accepting his trophy

" I guess this means I'll be delisted next week" - and he was. If they are playing enough games in the seconds to get the most votes - they are not good enough for the seniors.

  12. - Standing in the outer on that day,

    - the cheer that went up in the crowd when the Hawks beat the Cats

    - the players stopped because they thought the siren had gone

    - the euphoria of everyone when we won

    - being hugged by a complete stranger,

A day that is embedded in my memory forever.

  13. Unfortunately there are a lot of players who do not know when it is their time to retire. They love playing and being around the club & their mates. How many have then nominated for the draft and then either not been picked up or failed to make the grade at their new club?
