Think it was mentioned that he was very homesick and that Aaron has taken him under his wing. He hasnt been mentioned in training at all.

Jimmy was at the game yesterday and came in through the gates just behind me. He looked good. His skin tones were good although I did notice him walking off the ground at three quarter time and he looked very tired. It was funny because he was very apologetic to the lady at the turnstile for not having any identification. She told him that she would know him from anywhere. Such a humble man.

WJ I thought Dan showed some good signs and so to Howe although I am hesitant to have an opinion here before I get howled down. Stand out of new boys - TAPSCOTT. He cramped up in last quarter but I would definitely like to see him play next week. Beware of deposed dictators with ill gained deposits!

I dont know if we should be looking at todays game in as much as whether the game plan was working but more to where the next level of players is at. Where are the newbies at the moment and what needs to be concentrated on there. Surely with so many seniors players out we cannot actually tell if "the game plan" is working. Why not look at the positives: Ricky Pettard is a real focus for us; Tapscott showed he can mix with the big boys with his great kicking and good positioning; Howe and Nicholson looked likely; Jetta/Maric what an improvement over last year;Jetta's pace and tackling; Jamar still the best in the league; Nathan Jones a better game this week than last week Jake Spencer needs more time but obvious improvement from last year. Like last week I was disappointed in our inability to stay on man and the ability of the opposition to break tackles. I went today to watch Tapscott and how Tom came up after the media conference. I was impressed with Luke and Tom needs more game time as well understand that he will now be the oppositions tagging target. It will be interesting to see how he reacts to the pressure on the field and off. One observation MacDonald needs to get off the angry pills or just move on where Brisbane is concerned.

Also well done the club for organising it. Obviously the relationship is strong between the Club and Tom and both respect and trust each other for the media scrum to go ahead. Maybe the club has taken a few lessons from the past about the need for trust between players and the club if they want them to stay longterm. The rest of the team will be watching this play out and can only be impressed about how they have handled the situation, so far.

No one has discussed the fact that if he is out of contract at the end of the year what is stopping Club Eddie from pouncing on him with all their cash. In the meantime, tomorrow lets all get there and show him all the support we can. Show him why he should stay with us and be part of what Melbourne is and what it is going to become.

I felt so sorry for him because despite how hard he tried he was continually caught with the ball. At least Nathan can claim lack of match fitness but Moloney well he can't. He looked slow and awareness of players around him was off. It would be just awful if he was dropped being a leader and mentor that he is around the club. I don't know how many games he can play like this before he would be looking at driving out to Casey.

No one has talked about the effect of having Wellman back in the Essendon camp.Someone who knows everything there is to know about our players. I heard this morning that Essendon picked a team they knew would match Melbourne at their own game and that is why Watson etc were left out because they are too slow. I dont know how much truth there is to that but certainly they made us look like fat old ladies (apologies to any fat old demonlanders)out there. We looked slow and at points disinterested. col Sylvia at one point in front of us, in the third quarter just gave up chasing. Unbelievable. I don't think we can blame Jamar or any of the other rucks our midfield went missing.They were caught napping so many times with Essendon players by themselves on the wing. At one point Joel MacDonald and Rivers looked they were arguing as to who was going on whom. Honestly amateur material. I just wonder how bad are the Crows and Port. There no excuses last night and the players should hang their heads. I did however searching for a couple of positive indications - Maric's improvement, some good things from Evans and Liams sublime talent.

I just think if there is the chance that he hasnt signed lets all just get out there and make him feel what its like to be a Demon. Show him the support and applaud his every move and he will know where he should be. If with that and the likes of Jimmy and Cameron in his ear and he goes to GWS so be it. Like Chris Johnston, if he doesnt have the passion to be a demon well its best that he chases the money.Up to that point lets get behind him and convince him that the MCC/G is his home.

But it will distract us and the team. Every match report there will be a mention of will he or wont he. I dont care how single minded he is this will create immense pressure on him week in and week out so that if he hasnt signed with GWS he may want to commit to Melbourne but his manager will be insisting that he waits for the end of the year. How can he perform with this weight on his shoulders. The same if he has signed with GWS it will be a measure of the boy if he does play well through the year. Look how it affected Ablett. I do smell a rat here though now that Eddie has got involved and the relationship that he has with Gubby and Tom's manager. If I was Tom and found out that my manager was feeding Eddie information I would be livid. Get Jimmy involved and we'll have him signed up in a moment. I hate this. I was so looking forward to this year to see how they have all improved. But now every time I watch Tom play we will all be left wondering. If it is not sorted out one way or the other it will fester and begin to effect the other players. I cannot understand how the AFL have allowed a situation to develop like this. Why have a draft. They knew how good the draft was that year and there should have been a moretorium on GWS and Gold Coast taking early draft picks.
