  1. That was a pretty bad first quarter. On the bright side, we know it can't get much worse.
  2. Interesting that he doesn't even mention our forwards aside from listing their games played. Maybe it would mess up his comparison if he admitted that we have a very potent forward line forming.
  3. Yeah, I was about to put this up myself. I think 12 in a match may have put him a little further up the list in the AA selectors' minds.
  4. I think I owe Maric an apology. He was very very good today. Based on that game he is well and truly in line for a call-up. Probably ahead of Wona and Jetta. I only saw a little of Gawn before he was benched, but I agree with earlier posts. His rucking was good, but looked lost around the ground. That's to be expected after that long on the sidelines. Blease has an amazing boot. My only gripe with his game is that his teammates didn't pass him the ball as often as they could have. Tapscott is going to be a star. He already looks comfortable at VFL level. Physically he is well and truly able to hold his own, and he moves very well. From what we saw today, I think Maric is the closest of the VFL brigade to getting a call up. Warnock was his usual solid self, but I think his return is contingent upon matchups in the backline, so it depends on who the opposition are playing. Wona was dangerous, and is moving really well. He has a habit of trying to take one-handed marks. He needs to stop that. Jetta I think needs more time.
  5. Still showing as being at Casey fields according to their website.
  6. In what capacity? Is he working with Watts and co.?
  7. Simpson from Casey. He's listed as 196cm, a very powerful unit, and he damn near killed someone in a tackle earlier in the season. I'm not sure why Geelong didn't want him, but he looks pretty decent.
  8. I have no concerns about getting closer. They will most likely beat us, but we will put up at least a little bit of a fight.
  9. I would prefer to think of Jurrah as a proto-star, He has everything he needs to become a superstar, but there is a lot of work and a couple of hundred games ahead of him before we can really settle the issue of how great he is. From what we have seen so far, I can safely say that he has the brilliance to be rated with some of the best to play the game. The thing he has not yet shown is the workrate that the great players also possess. If you look at the greats of the modern game, they not only have the talent and ability to do freakish things, they have immense workrates, constantly presenting and challenging for the ball. What I want to see from Liam is a massive amount of work on his endurance so he can use the awesome athleticism throughout the game to blow away opponent after opponent. Right now he is a flashy 10-15 possession player. He needs to become a 20-25 possession player who can dominate a position. Then he will deserve to be rated a real star.
  10. They carried him. Also, no. Luke Hodge.
  11. The site says it's at Casey fields at the moment. Probably well worth checking on Friday though.
  12. I find it very interesting that he still rates Headland as one of his best players. I have no respect at all for the guy. All I've ever seen him do is pick up cheap stats. For mine the worst #1 pick in the history of the draft.
  13. Agreed. Sandilands is simply to big to get over. Look at his numbers. If Jamar can get pretty close to even it will be a win against the Man Mountain.
  14. That's 11:00am at Casey Fields folks. Get down there and give the lad some encouragement.
  15. They're easily in contention. Remember that last year LeCras missed out after kicking 50+ goals in the forward pocket. They gave his spot to a midfielder (Leon Davis) because they couldn't stand the thought of leaving him out. Davis got the nod on the back of his massive 35 goals and 24 behinds and an average of just over 20 possies a game. In other words, the AA selectors don't let good form or statistics get in the way when they're selecting a team.
  16. If you look at the early reviews before he was drafted, I think you'll see that he is an entirely different kettle of fish to PJ. I seem to recall things like he knows how to use his size and goes for physical contact were mentioned, as well as pretty fair skills and mobility. I'm thinking it could be well worthwhile heading down to Casey to watch this weekends games.
  17. I'd be quite happy with them doing this. Firstly, as a player nearing the end of his career he would probably not be worth much (if anything) in trade, and secondly if we traded him to them, they could still use their player-pinching powers on one of our young guns. I mean no disrespect to Bruce when I say this, but he is unlikely to be in the side in three years, so it will hurt us a lot less if he goes than if they were to nab someone like Grimes or Watts.
  18. Have to say, Bail looks to be another feather in the cap of the recruiting staff. I don't know how they managed to spot an overage player from the Queensland league, but he may turn out to be the bargain of that entire draft.
  19. I didn't se the games, but looking at the stats Green has two of those players beaten hands down.
  20. Agreed. If you look at the concessions they have been given, to take a player from every club would be idiotic. If they used every one of the available options to take players they would have room for only 10 drafted players. That takes them to their first second round pick and nothing else. I'm pretty sure the GC people have said that they are only after certain players and if they can't get them will not waste spots on their list.
  21. I have no fear of Green leaving. He's already had the opportunity to chase more money and turned it down.
  22. No chance at all. He's contracted.
  23. As with my earlier post regarding Friday games, they should just divide them evenly amongst the teams so as to avoid the appearance of favouritism. It is easy enough to work out how many games each side should be allocated on a particular day. I'm sure th ebrain surgeons at the AFL can manage it.
  24. Perhaps, but there are quite a few posts in this thread talking about up to five delistings to make room for the three required draft picks plus rookie elevations. It may well be common knowledge to you and to others who follow these things closely, but I was unaware of it, and I see evidence of others also being ignorant. Hence the post.
  25. Here's something interesting I just discovered which I think many of us were unaware of. In the upcoming draft, Rookie elevations will be counted towards the mandatory three picks. While we've all been assuming that McKanezie and Spencer would force us to delist five players, we could get away with three if we absolutely had to. Source
