The Club was smart in only offering him a one year deal.

I am loving this re the Mitch Clarke Deal: "We did what every Melbourne supporter would have wanted us to do - get on the phone, get on a plane, get in front of him, present our thoughts and present where we thought he could be a benefit to the club," Neeld said. Knows what he wants and goes out and gets it. Yeah!

No I disagree. My point is that GWS are unlikely to get 11 stars. There will be some duds for sure. They will therefore be likely to trade 1 or 2 picks away to spread their risk. For us, if we get pick 7 this year or next year it doesn't make much difference risk wise. But we get the chance to participate this year in the top 10 which would otherwise be off limits for us. Maybe the compo picks are worth significantly more because of their flexibiilty. Thinking about it further, GWS are likely to finish last next year. Therefore the compo picks will be like pick 1 or 2 to them and only pick 13 or 14 to us. So for us we can improve dramatically our position this year and next. I think it makes real sense. Here's a thought. Maybe they trade pick 3 to us so that we can get O'Meara and trump the GC17!!

Maybe we have used some of our Scully 'slush' money to offer his Freo family a job in Melbourne? That would be smart. If you can't Mohammed to the mountain.....

It would certainly be in GWS's interest to swap some of their picks this year for picks they can use in the next 5 years. Having picks 11-14 in the one draft has big risks. Let's say it was a 2003 draft, the GWS would get ACooney A Walker C Sylvia F Ray Mclean K Bradley K Tenace R Clarke D Trotter R Dunn B Waters Ryan Murphy B Stanton F Watts One maybe two genuine A Graders (Cooney and Waters). So swapping a first round comp picks for say a pick between 7 and 10 would be a good get for us and be smart for GWS

The club doesn't agree with you if you go by the Bluey results and I suggest the footy world doesn't either. Josh Gobson made the AA team doing a similar role to Jared. Nick Maxwell does the same.

Hang on, wasn't his first one an impact injury where a filth player (Daisy Thomas?) cannoned into his back and bruised a vertebrae? Hardly a cause for concern.

Peter Sumich leaves West Coast to join Freo

Wow, would be surprised if true. That would upset the Perth applecart. -
Wow, some contradictions in here. Struggled because of Petrie? What, a tall marking fwd? were there no crumbs to feed off? We would kill to have a Petrie that our crumbers could feed off. And this, our fwd line is starved of opportunities - great. Get McKinley so he wouldn't have any opportunities at the Dees. PLease engage brain before typing.

Agree with virtually all you have said. Great season given his start. But underated?? Hardly. He's All Australian. Is well regarded by virtually everyone that commentates.

Nah you're wrong..... We need to get RUTHLESS!

Would rather a bloke called Robert Campbell or Mark Jamar when Gawn stacks on 10kgs.

This is where I really feel for Dean Bailey. For 3 years, a majority of his players weren't required to play roles (the type that Neeld will be asking), as he placed higher importance on development and games played together. Sadly in 2011 when his players were asked to play roles, they basically had no bloody idea what to do. Wow. Not sure where you got that from. My view after listening to the pre-game speech on a number of occasions is that most players had specific 'roles'. Bailey didn't tell the players to play like they played against Geelong and others. It's simply they weren't capable of playing the way he wanted them to and that his game 'plan' was severely flawed. The Pies on the other hand have a game plan they have been honing for 6 years. And they have found players who can follow instructions.

The knock on Jarrod is that he is mostly terrible as a one on one player. When playing the nick maxwell third man up spoiling role he generally excels.

Green is nowhere near a leader. Never has been. Was a real FIGJAM for many years and wasn't even in the leadership group until what, 2010? I'd have Grimes except it's important your Captain is on the park leading by example. This pretty much discounts him. That leaves Trengove although the club really rates Rivers. 2nd in the Bluey but not much love here....
-
Brad deserves a two year deal but not the Captaincy. Was easily our best last year. This year was still top 10 in the Bluey so the club thinks he did OK.
-
Untrue. Woey certainly was but Powell wanted a 3 yrd deal and Daniher only wanted to give him him two. Nothing to do with salary cap. From memory only played two years with the Saints but I stand to be corrected on that.

He wil be a good coach if he can get them playing as a team. Not paying as individuals. People laughed at the Hawks for Kokoda and laughed at the Magpies for Arizona (initially) but they have both built a first class selfless team ethic. As have West COast and Geelong this year. West Coast did it in one summer. We can do it too. No more mediocrity. No more boozy China trips. I want fanatical devotion to improvement at every level. Go Dees.

Keith "Bluey" Truscott - Best & Fairest Night

Might haunt him for a few years that comment! -
Sounds like a great catch. Hardly surprised by his "no-one should underestimate the challenge we are facing" in becoming a professional hardened outfit. I like what I am hearing, Enjoy the pre-season boys! Jan 2012 "This is the hardest pre-season we have ever done."
-
We need a coach that can coach us like a team. Then our mediocre players will become really good players. Neeld is a great start because he has been involved in making that happen at Collingwood.
