Hodge straight to tribunal Lewis 3 weeks but can plead guilty and reduce to 2. Dunn investigated for contact to Walters - dismissed Garland investigated for contact to pavlich - dismissed Head contact for Garland was absolutely accidental. Can't believe it was investigated Happy we won't see Hodge or Lewis - not that it makes any difference..................

Nicho won't be happy with that comment. Neither will Jamie Shanahan....

Football Department Contact with Umpires
jnrmac replied to Umpire Please's topic in Melbourne Demons
Natural bias x 3. 3 umpires 3 different interpretations Every umpire has a natural bias towards reknowned 'ball players' such as Ablett, Fyffe, Judd etc. They are also told to watch for holding, blocking etc - anythingthat will stop the gun players entertaining the fans... There is also much more scrutiny on decisions involving key players. Melbourne players just don't cut it. We have been killed by tyhe umps against Rich and Freo with some unbelievable decisions. Yes we got one back to Jesse Hogan but it is cruelling the game for me. Even watching two non melbourne sides I can't believe how bad the umps are. -
For all the armchair experts, its easier to draft at picks 6-10 than picks 1-5. There is so much less pressure to get it right. Very few recruiters/clubs in the top 5 go against consensus - the fallout is too great. Happy to be reminded of when that last occurred - ie a club with a single top 5 pick taking someone clearly outside the top 5 [Edit: Stephen Hill is the closest I could find. Everyone thought Freo would take Rich] The other factor is past history. Wines was also very similar to Viney in that they are inside players with grunt. The last time we did that was with Sylvia and McLean. That didn't quite work out either. We have what we have. Stop harping on about who we could have taken. It is pointless.

Ouch...

Wow, interesting stat. Nice perspective. Thanks Matt B (no-one else would bother sourcing that comparison!)
-
If that is right he is flying under the radar. They slaughtered us yesterday
-
Yeah, give him another 100 games to teach him.... Brayshaw has played 95 games less and is already a better player and contributor. That speaks volumes.
-
Not sure if you noticed but none of our players could lay a hand on Fyffe. They were trying to but he is pretty strong.
-
Yeah right, This will be our 50h line in the sand snow game in the last 3 years.
-
Its a reasonable comparison between Watts and Brayshaw. If they went in the same draft and Brayshaw was at 2 we would all be screaming like the Ollie Wines comparison. Brayshaw is everything that Watts is not. Its time to admit that the Watts pick was a bust.

I think its clear when we are getting beaten our 'structures' fall down. And as Roos alluded to in the presser, players don't run to position pass to the first option (eg Tyson to Jamar) etc. Now this is largely as a result of the pressure of the opposition but you can't deviate too much from the structures I am told because everyone is drilled to play that way. Look, we hit the post, got murdered by the umps on around 5 occasions and turned the ball over I am guessing 20 times- for probably around 75pts from Freo's total. Roos is I think right that we were out of the contest for around 10mins in the 1st qtr and the last 20 mins. FOr the rest of the time we were competitive (albeit always looked a worse team). In short we eliminate some of the basic errors we stay in it a lot longer..

Well you nailed your colours to the wrong mast there my son. Trav won a b&F and came 3rd one year. PLayed one of the all time great finals matches against Adelaide. Jack should wish he could play like Travis.
-
Sounds like you had a bit to drink as well .....
-
Post of the year. Poor Jack, Lets give him another hundred games. I am sure I see something there.... Sound like the same conversations we used to have about Morton...
-
Everything else has been tried, what would you suggest? Or maybe he just can't play. If they have any ounce of competitiveness in them it should spur them...clearly not Jack though.
-
Well we don't know that do we? He sure as hell wasn't telling them to play like they did. If he tried to change things it didn't work.
-
The you aren't watching. Was deplorable today. Avoids physical contact like the plague. We were a man down today.
-
-
Nah he wasn't. Had a poor game.
-
We were so much better when playing one on one. Dunn is nowhere near his form from last year,

Three certain goals by the maggots. 1. When the Freo player was running back to take a kick and got a 50m penalty taking him to the goal line. 2. When Hogan was going for the mark in the 4th and McPharlin had him in a bear hug when the ball was 20m away. Would have been a certainty. 3. Mayne's shepherd in the goal square when he had his back to the ball. Free kick every day of the week. All had a huge impact in the context of the game at the time.

Was off with concussion. Probably when that mongrel Clarke flattened him. Surely if that is the case he should be reported by the MRP?
-
Watts was a liability today. Watched him closely all day. Missed at least 5 tackles and ran past 2 other Freo players that he could have tackled. He is simply unable to win a one on one contest and impose himself on a game. I like when he has ball in had generally but we can't carry him any longer. He has zero, repeat zero intensity. Rather have Pedersen.

From a year ago? Are you just catching up with this? The news must take a bit longer to get to Baghdad...
